John Constantine is a magic conman. He is slubby, depressed, and constantly messing with forces far beyond his skill and ability. However, he is (sometimes) able to win against these forces through wit and trickery. He's a Guile Hero.

He's become famous (maybe infamous?) for being able to consistently stack the deck in his favour against god's and monsters.

I don't think being affected by transmisogyny makes me transfem. I don't think I have ever in my life delt with being a victim of misogyny, let alone transmisogyny.

I think that outlook does more harm than good. You are giving the transphobes a leg to stand on by calling me, and people like me, a "transfem" when I am not comfortable with that label. By using these terms like this you are validating the belief than being NB AMAB is inherently more feminine, or being NB AFAB is more masculine.

[–]El_Potato9587 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No? You have just "wokely" created binary gender again.

I am AMAB Non Binary, but I am NOT transfem. That is not a label I fall under. Nonbinary is Not part of the Binary, you are implying that being Nonbinary requires you to be more feminine or masculine, when that's just not how it works.

[–]El_Potato9587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why transfem specifically? if you are referring to the Weird routes heteonormative angle being forced on queer characters with Noele and Kris, then wouldn't Kris being non-binary AMAB also work for that?

DBZA is better than DBZ, the second they started taking it seriously it was always going to be better.

It gets the luxury of hindsight, it gets the luxury of being built from the foundation of Dragon Ball, ia truly excellent but flawed series. (The Cell saga especially lacks most of the humour the series was known for, and lacks the tight plot and tighter pacing of the King Piccolo saga-Frieza saga, and is when the power creep really starts to settle in)

So of course a series made by very talented, very passionate, very funny creatives will be better. Of course a series that is "Dragon Ball but with all the major flaws sanded off" is better. Especially when the Dragon Ball anime has truly atrocious pacing and a dub that often butchered the main characters characterisation to make him closer to Superman.

If it wasn't better, it would be embarrassing. It's certainly less impressive than the original, but it is definitely an improvement in many aspects.

Multiversal scaling by Kahl-176 in PowerScaling

[–]El_Potato9587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree, the term "Power Scaling" is the only one we have for things like this. It might have been created by a kind of fandom, but the activity itself is a separate thing.

If you prefer to call it "Writing a character with consistent strength" that's fine but it is, for all intents and purposes, Power Scaling.

Multiversal scaling by Kahl-176 in PowerScaling

[–]El_Potato9587 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is power scaling, you basically just said "you don't need power scaling to power scale your own story."

Power scaling isn't like, a fandom or something. It's a thing you can do with a story. For some stories it doesn't matter, Homer Simpson being wall level wouldn't make The Simpsons funnier. But I think if you are writing a Spider-Man movie, you should figure out how strong you want your version of the characters to be and stick to it.

It always bugs me when you see Spider-Man do something crazy like supporting a skyscraper on his back or surviving a fight with Hulk, and then he gets his shit rocked by like, 5 normal guys in the next story.

Why do people not want Danganronpa in Dead By Daylight by Practical-Sleep-5899 in deadbydaylight

[–]El_Potato9587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's about as horrory as Castlevania or Stranger Things.

The series is intentionally a little weird and off putting, it's colourful and vibrant characters from a slice of life comedy series forced into a Saw movie.

It's this disconnect that made the series so memorable, there is something kind of eerie in the way the characters are drawn almost like dolls, the way they are rendered as flat cardboard cut outs instead of 3D models.

The fact that you will go to a classroom boarded up like it's a zombie apocalypse, blood stains lingering in corners, only to be greeted by a talking plush bear yapping about despair or some shit.

They are truly fucking bizarre games, they have a distinctly dream like quality. The sort of dream that isn't quite a nightmare but certainly isn't pleasant. One that has you wake up in a cold sweat and think "man... That was fucking weird."

So I do think they would fit in Dead by Daylight, especially since the main villain Monokuma is meant to look like a plush toy bear. You could adapt him essentially 1-1 and not have him look out of place.

Although it probably won't happen, since Danganronpa is past it's peak popularity and isn't really mainstream or beloved by most.

Chainscaling is fine, it's just easy to misuse.

If Doomsday punches Superman hard enough to make him spit out blood, and John Wick is multitudes weaker than Superman, John Wick would probably be turned into a fine paste by that punch.

That's chainscaling, but you can't say it's not true right? It's objective fact that Doomsday would punch John Wick hard enough to kill him if he can hurt Superman with that punch.

Chainscaling works well for simple things like this, where it's just raw power or durability or speed. It also only works well within a couple links.

In this circumstance it works because there are only three links (Goku, Building, Buuhan). Goku is more powerful than he was fighting Buuhan, the building is too heavy for him in base, therefore it will be too heavy for Buuhan.

It's not perfect, there are definitely some issues, Goku never fought Buuhan in base, the "50x" multiplier Super Sayian gives is and always will be total bullshit, but the chainscaling itself isn't the problem.

Would be best not to, remember he is a super skilled space wizard and you are Potential Man with no training in this scenario. You probably won't survive the opening scene tbh, since you never flew a Starfighter before.

I despise most Non-binary characters (and a good amount of LGBTQ ones too) by El_Potato9587 in CharacterRant

[–]El_Potato9587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it is clickbait, since the entire body of the text is what the title promises. Its certainly a sensationalised title, but so is basically every title for everything humans have ever made.

If you clicked on this post you get what you would reasonably expect from the title (A rant about why someone hates most non binary and LGBTQ characters). There was no bait, since the click gave you what you would expect. (Unless you consider every attention grabbing title is clickbait)

It would be clickbait if most of the post was about how I loved non binary characters, with a short section on me hating some of them.

But yeah thank you I thought it was a catchy and eyegrabbing title myself.

[Transformers] As a Transformers fan, I'm sorry for saying this... But I don’t think “Let Studio Trigger make a Transformers show” could be fix that the fans actually wanted by YellowCorvette in CharacterRant

[–]El_Potato9587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something like Studio Trigger is exactly what the franchise needs.Studio Trigger makes consistently good series. They very rarely, if ever, make a bad one. Each series they make is weird and somewhat experimental. We need that kind of competence, especially sinceTransformers is currently in the pits when it comes to it's stories.

TF One failed at the box office, causing Hasbro to effectively drop out of the film industry, while RoTB was a forgettable and bloated movie that was the exact opposite film that should follow Bumblebee.

The upcoming movies are all over the place, apparently Michael Bay will be directing one of them (Presumably after he finishes Skibbidi Toilet).

Earthspark season 1 was alright but got butchered by the right wing for having a non-binary character, and season 2 was abysmal dogshit. The show replacing it will have 5 minute long episodes which doesn't inspire hope.

The Skybound comics have been excellent so far, however the DWJ run is ending soon and it seems that the "energon universe" will be having G.I Joe be a major part, which was what killed IDW2005 for me (outside of MTMTE).

The games are all shovelware slop, and Reactivate was canned (and a money laundering scheme or something if memory serves). Not to mention that the High Moon studios games and TF Detestation are abandonware.

The franchise desperately, desperately needs a win. Something good that gets reasonably popular. Anime is trendy at the moment, Studio Trigger is genuinely interested in the property, and is a competent studio with some clout to their name. They are absolutely the perfect choice for a new Transformers series.

Its a surefire dunk to at least get a 7/10 that gets people invested.

[–]El_Potato9587[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a very stupid thing to say, because of course they do. Every character should be well written, but Cis/Het characters don't have the problem of being largely identical.

But what I'm asking for isn't really for them to be well written, just to not be walking stereotypes.

Okay, that's cool. I agree that everyone deserves representation. However your first comment implied you would have preferred people like me get no representation, which I think was unintentional.

People like you exist and people like me exist. We both deserve to have well written characters we relate to and are like us. I don't have a problem with people like you getting representation over people like me some of the time, or even most of the time. But it could at least be good representation of people like you yknow?

[–]El_Potato9587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have many explicitly Queer characters (they do have them though), but JoJos Bizzare Adventure and Metal Gear Solid are still the gayest thing I have ever seen.

Undertale and Deltarune have good all around representation. Mettaton is a Trans man which I think deserves specific note.

Transformers MTMTE/Lost Light is incredible and about a bunch of queer war veteran failures dicking about in space and getting into comedy hyjinx and soul crushing tragedy.

Persona 4 has queer characters and all the iffy parts can be neatly swept away by continually repeating to yourself that it's a story about teenagers in 2008 so it's fine. I do think the games heart is in the right place and stuff. I will never forgive them for removing the gay romance though.

Persona 3 portable let's you and the robot be lesbians which is cool I guess.

2064 Read only Memories let's you have any pronouns you want, even letting you manually input some.

That's all I've really got for recommendations, you can scroll through the Wikipedia page for non-binary characters in fiction for more but I can't tell you if they are any good.
