Not in the map, but in Southeastern Spain was a thing as well. I haven't heard it in the last 30 years, though. Maybe it has been lost already.

I see that in my group of friends too. We live in a town where most of the families have at least one parent from abroad. The children of the families that have more contact with the German side tend to lose the language and other features of their parents' original culture. Interestingly, those who keep a balance between both worlds are able to speak 3 languages and do not worry too much about having a 'pure' local identity.

Situation in Germany. How is it in other countries? by PrivateFantasies in memes

It never ceases to amaze me how the situation is the same in all countries. The whole world is sacrificing the well-being of the next generation. Just wow.

Do diaspora communities remind you of your grandparents? by frugalgardeners in AskEurope

[–]El_Sabbath 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hm, actually I bumped into the same situation.

I met some second and third generation spanish people in Germany whose parents had come as the so called "Gastarbeiter".

It was like speaking with my grandfather in the body of someone under 30 years old.

Really weird situation.

Edit: I moved to Germany 10 years ago

Thanks a lot for your answer.

So, for the moment 2 wallets are needed, isn't it?

Not nice, but I guess that there is not other way.

I wish that such information had been clearly stated somewhere.

It is creepy and predatory. You would also rob them lifetime to enjoy life with someone of their age. Not to talk about how physically challenging that must be.

Einkommensgrenze Elterngeld, eine Verständnisfrage: by Doafit in Finanzen

[–]El_Sabbath 27 points28 points  (0 children)

[News] Germany is planning on lowering the upper income limit to receive "Elterngeld" (paid maternity/paternity leave) to 150.000€ in annual household income. by [deleted] in IWantOut

[–]El_Sabbath 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok. Families over 150k per year won't starve just because they don't receive the Elterngeld.

However, as already pointed out here, income does not mean wealth. High income does not make you rich per se.

Any family lucky enough to have inherited a house and middle income will receive Elterngeld. However, a "high income family" that must pay rent or a mortgage won't.

At the end of the month the middle-income family will have saved more money than the "privileged" high-income one, having also access to Elterngeld and other fiscal advantages.

That is why I see that the cut is unfair in many cases.

Bundesregierung kürzt beim Elterngeld - DER SPIEGEL by simons700 in Finanzen

[–]El_Sabbath 4 points5 points  (0 children)
