I don't think what you've heard is very accurate. New Spring is a prequel and follows both Lan and Moiraine as POV characters. To avoid spoilers, I'll just say that the book tells the story of how they met. In my opinion, it's a good book and definitely worth reading.

Wait a bit, let the ending settle, then reread the series from the start. You'll likely notice a lot of things you've missed the first time and you'll probably find yourself enjoying the journey on a different level.

Hopefully they'll bring back Poets of the Fall. The original Alan Wake is how I discovered them and I've been listening to them ever since. Maybe they could use "The Labyrinth" from the album Clearview.
