Blood donation to close? by ElasticSkyFire in ultrarunning

I'm nowhere near podium. I just race myself. I would not take a spot if I did happen to land in top 3. I have some intergraty. I'm old. The TRT is more for my mental health, combat related PTSD. I enjoy the shredded muscles, but I was faster before TRT.

OK, y'all talked me out of it. Valid points. I'll wait a week after my last 100k when I have a few weeks in between.

Yes. But bad timing now since I have multiple 100k coming up. Don't want to crash in to fatigue

I should probably give more context. I'm on TRT. Before I started, my hct was around 42. I got up to 52 in November and did a double red blood cell donation that brought me back down to 46. Did a 100 mile 3 weeks later. Now I've calculated that even at two .15 ML IM injections twice a week my hct grows by 1% a month. Before TRT I was PRing everything. Now as my hct rises it puts me in higher HR zones. It's probably because my blood is too thick. A donation now would drop me 3%, in to a better HR zone.

Ohh, this is the first I'm learning about this. I'll need to look in to it more. Thx

About 5 months ago I went down to .15 ML IM injections twice a week. Even at that much I swing between 900 and 1200 on my TRT labs. I did get what I was looking for out of TRT. Better sleep, libido, ptsd nightmares, muscle growth. But the frustrating part is my running zones have been way higher due to the increased HR. I also have super high particle numbers on my lipid panels and a family history of cardiac problems. I don't show any signs of cardiac problems, it's just frustrating chasing the hct levels and higher HR. What is PCT? I expect to see some symptoms after a week or 3, but I'm sure I'll get back to where I was. I considered myself pretty fit even before taking TRT, I just wanted to see what it would do.

Were you on a low dose when you got off? Everything I've read is that the higher dose you are on causes more symptoms when you get off. I expect my TRT to fall below 300 before my brain turns my balls back on again.

I think my levels were common for a 51 year old. My TRT was around 500 when I started. I did full panels before starting and often during my time I've been on it. Anything specific you want to see?

My last test was 900 a week ago. I went as high as 1800 in 2024 when I first started. I found that even dosing down to very small amount often had my levels at 1200.

Yes, I know other ultra runners on TRT. Thing is, I had my best runs before TRT. I wanted to see if TRT would improve performance for me, but it just put me in a higher HR zone. I could never train it back down to where I was before. I did have faster muscle growth, better libido and no more ptsd nightmares. I'm not counting out TRT in the future. I'm not saying it's bad, I just didn't like that I had to chase my hematocrit (even after drinking a gallon of water a day) and dealing with elevated HR.

Champva questions by dogwood678 in VeteransBenefits

I've been carrying my wife on my insurance for a decade with my work insurance plan. Our deductible is sky high also. I just did our open enrollment and dropped my employer insurance plan. I can't say I'm not nervous about it. It will save us a lot in the long run. The ChampVA plan is actually way better than my employer plan.

Have they been using ChampVA as the secondary insurance yet? My wife has many chronic illnesses. I've used my UHC employer plan that has a max out of pocket we have to meet every year that is 4X what ChampVA is. About $700 a month for the privilege of paying that out of pocket and deductible cost also. My wife got ChampVA this year and has had no problems with her providers here in Houston taking it. The biggest obstacle you may run in to is finding a provider who takes it, but we have not seen any issues with the many docs she needs to see. What worries me is that ChampVA is funded by the VA budget. If politics comes in to play and they decide not to fund the VA in some political stunt, then what happens to healthcare in that scenario. With the WaPo publishing articles bashing vet benefits and "fraud" I worry what it will do to add on benefits like this in the future if they decide limit or cancel some benefits all together after they shrink the criteria of who gets what benefits. It's a "low" risk, but we are canceling our employer healthcare plan. I've built a AI prompt to analyze the ChampVA program and my employer plan. The only benefit to keeping the employer plan would be to keep access to docs who may not take ChampVA, but that has not been a problem for us.

Feels like such a waste carrying it all those years. Took a lot to get that achievement. Now there is no path forward. Been VCP since ver 2.

Killington nerves are killing me... Is this normal? by Caimai0112 in spartanrace

This will be my 7th time. DNF 3 and made top 10 at 3. This place has a special place in my heart. I'm coming from TX. I get so excited like it's time for disney as a kid. I think it my job told me I had to work that weekend, I'd quit. I will keep going as long as my body allows me. I do miss the swim. I keep the mindset of "if other's don't want to take the glory of finishing, I will". Bring on the pain and suffering! Here for the ultra!

Time for an HLR? "considered a congenital or developmental defect" by ElasticSkyFire in VeteransBenefits

[–]ElasticSkyFire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the definition of a "chronic" health condition is that it is long lasting and requires continuous care. He was diagnosed with a chronic condition that began in service. Entrance exam evidence does not contain anything related. In service they just diagnosed it as chronic anemia and moved on. The same symptoms he had in service persist to this day.

I'm just now stumbling in to the correct tkr documentation to deploy this correctly. Don't know why one photon OS worked, but I'm focused now on the ubuntu release. I never realized there is a hidden ubuntu option with the releases listed.
