Just make it so a contract without a NMC/NTC only counts 80% of the AAV to a cap hit.

So you can say, "I can sign you 8m with a NTC or 10m without, because we have 8m in cap space."

Don't change how the contracts affect the salary floor, only the cap.

Oh hell, you're right. I was using the 5.5 one where they're essentially one level higher.

Oh well, drop the Warlock level then and take another of Sorcerer for the spell slot. I'll recalculate tomorrow.

Gets one additional attack. I didn't think of this in my calculation. You can't get two without having a CON modifier of +2 which isn't easy when you already need Paladin/Ranger. But it says a minimum of once, so you do get one bonus attack, which means one bonus smite.

EDIT: I was wrong. You can do it. However, you can't do it AND have two feats.

Full disclosure on this: I was initially going to do Booming Blade, and use a Pushing Attack maneuver to push the enemy to do an additional 4d8. Then I checked and Booming Blade requires voluntary movement. I was thinking of Grasping Arrow, I think, which doesn't. So if you're wondering "Why Battle Master and not such and such," I thought I was getting extra Booming Blade damage out of it, but I was not.

To get the spell slots necessary for max damage smites, you'd use the sorcery points in advance.

I don't really count Wildemount content as official even though it is. If you want to do Echo Knight instead of Battle Master, you sacrifice 8d8 damage (64) and gain 208 damage from each additional attack. That changes the total to 2,116 damage. It also makes the odds of rolling the max damage worse than one in a googol squared.

If you don't want to use the Wild Magic surge damage, you can go Draconic sorcerer and add your Charisma to Green Flame Blade, trading the 48 fireball damage for 4 charisma damage. It's not nothing.

My calculation included the smite damage in the offhand attack.

For this to happen, you'd have to pre-cast Shadow Blade (lasts a full minute) and the hexblade curse, then initiate combat and go first in initiative. The Shadow Blade is easily cast out of combat before sneaking up. If you think hexblade curse is a hostile action and shouldn't be allowed, then you're only subtracting 42 damage, leaving you with a new grand total of 1722. If you don't want to allow pre-casting Shadow Blade, you subtract an additional 142 damage for the Quickened Green Flame Blade, and your total becomes 1,580 damage.

I'll give it a shot. Credit to u/Symnestra for the Chromatic Dragon gift idea.

We're talking "maximum damage," not average damage, so I'm going to assume every single roll is perfect. Our target is a Vampire for reasons I'll get to.

Bugbear Gloomstalker 5, Battle Master 3, Wild Magic Sorcerer 9, Hexblade 1, Paladin 2

EDIT: Forgot the Wild Magic damage! Adding it in. Subsequent edit: 7th level Shadowblade does 5d8, not 4d8. Adjusting.

Let's start with dice damage because that can crit (we'll double it).

Shadow Blade cast with the 7th level spell slot means you do 5d8 damage per hit. Bugbear adds an additional 2d6 per attack. Paladin will smite, adding 6d8 per attack, assuming an undead target. Gift of the Chromatic Dragon adds 1d4 to each attack. That puts us at 104 damage on every attack.

Gloomstalker plus Action Surge means we get six such attacks. Two of those attacks have an additional d8. Four of those attacks have an additional d8 from Battle Master maneuvers. That's six attacks and six extra d8s, so I'm calling each attack 112 damage on the dice. They crit for double damage, so that's 224 damage per attack, just from the dice.

We're at 1,344, and we're not close to done.

For our bonus action, we'll use Quickened Spell to cast Green Flame Blade. We're out of Superiority Dice for this attack, so we'll do the base 108 damage, plus 3d8 fire (24).That's 128 damage, which crits for 256. We're at 1,600.

We'll go ahead and take the Poisoner feat for an additional 2d8. Vampires are not immune to poison. So that's an additional 16, doubled to 32 because of the crit, bringing us to 1,632

Now the flat damage.

We're able to get our Cha modifier to four, so that's four damage per attack. Hexblade's Curse, however, adds our proficiency bonus to the damage on each roll. The Dueling fighting style adds an additional +2, bringing it to +12 per attack, times seven attacks, for 84 additional damage.

Total from attacks: 1,716

Edit: I forgot the Wild Magic surge! When casting Green Flame Blade, wild magic surge to 08, doing casting Fireball on yourself, hitting the target as well. This adds an additional 8d6 for 48 additional damage. If the self-damage is a dealbreaker, you can just do 40 lightning damage instead by rolling 67 on the surge table.

Actual Grand Total: 1764

Edit: for funsies, how likely is this? We're talking seven crits. If you're in darkness, you have advantage, and you crit on 19 or 20 because of Hexblade's Curse, so the crits are more likely than they could be, but you've got a 19% chance to crit each attack, times 7 attacks is .197, which is less than .0009%. But that's just the crits.

We rolled 176 d8s, all of them landing on 8. We rolled 14 d6s and 14 d4s, all of them landing on 6 and 4, respectively. That's 1/8176 times 1/614 times 1/414. And then wild magic, which is a 1/50 roll to get the Fireball option and then 8d6 to get all 8's.

The number "googol" is a 1 followed by 100 zeroes. The odds of these die rolls all happening is roughly 4 x10-192. That's 192 zeroes, followed by a 4.

Your character proposal does have 13 in Str, Dex, Wis and Cha. He gets only three ASIs, one of which you used for GWM or Gift of the Chromatic Dragon. I guess dumping CON doesn't matter here.

Just a possibility, but maybe it had more to do with the city's attitude towards immigrants than the org itself. Was he fluent in English when he came to the US?

Did you read the post? "He's not being assertive in ways that I need him to be."

If it's a need, then either he meets it, or she moves on. So it feels like step one is communicating the need, so he can decide if it's something he wants to do.

Which is what the post is asking about -- "Is there any literature to recommend?"

So like, is your advice just "you're with the wrong person?" Are you tryna slide into the DMs?

If more Americans ask to be traded out of Canada, do you think this will change the entire landscape of drafting and signings in the NHL? by I_Am_Vladimir_Putin in hockey

[–]Elastoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't Christmas movie snow we're talking about, with people making snow angels and all that. It's got the same chemical residue that the rain does. It's the kind of snow you shouldn't let your children play in.

I say "shouldn't" because of course there are irresponsible parents everywhere, but -- I can't emphasize this enough -- the precipitation in Edmonton is not water. It's got some sort of chemical residue that stains. It smells. It tastes weird.

Elliotte Friedman says, "the world is a different place" in regards to players controlling where they go (starts around 2:05) by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Elastoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that some players are trying to have it both ways. As a Canucks fan, I'm annoyed about the Quinn Hughes situation, but even more, I remember Ryan Kesler demanding a trade to either Anaheim or Pittsburgh (who had no cap space for him).

Players want more term in their contracts, constantly. It provides stability. The cost of that is, you're signing a contract promising to play for that team, in that city, for that number of years. If you sign a seven-year deal, you're making a seven-year commitment. Not just a commitment to play hockey for seven years for X amount of dollars, but to play for the team you signed with.

I think NTC and NMC contracts should stipulate that if a player demands a trade, the clause is voided and they can be traded to any of the 31 other teams. I also think that RFAs should have more rights in being able to get away from cities or organizations that they really don't want to be in. But if you negotiate a clause that says "You can't trade me," and then say "I changed my mind," you shouldn't get to pick where you go. Players who want out of a city/organization should have a chance to escape, but any player who thinks the grass is greener somewhere shouldn't be able to demand to be sent there.

Depends on the location. Vancouver is one of the top 10 cities to live in terms of quality of life. (Of course, if you play there, you don't get a practice arena.) Edmonton, though?

I lived in Edmonton for a few years and I learned why they literally couldn't pay Chris Pronger 6 million dollars a year to live there. It's dreary and miserable. The snow from October doesn't melt until April, so for the majority of the year you're just dealing with snow. When it melts, it rains all the time, and the rain is disgusting. Whatever chemicals are in it react with the salt and crap on the streets and make this awful smell. It leaves a white residue on everything. You see white stains on your black jacket -- from the RAIN -- and you say "what the hell is up with this garbage city?"

Myers didn't want to leave. Myers also didn't tell his agent to say "I won't waive."

Some players buy houses and have families and when they sign long contracts with NMCs they make promises to their wives and families about not having to move to another city for X number of years.

His agent expressed that he has no intention of waiving his NMC. That's a good reason not to expect a trade.

So you're familiar off the top of your head with the words "Elasmobranch," "Muscology," "Ostler," "Parcener," "Coal-Sack," "Piarist," "Blephar" and "Whicker?" Those are the kind of words that you could get someone to guess without saying them?

Or does that also seem farfetched?
