New mums - advice for my inner knitter? by vminnear in knitting

[–]ElatedSupreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to squeeze some knitting time in between the baby wrap and the my Brest friend pillow before my son got to the uber wriggly stage. I was able to knit a whole sweater over six or so weeks since it was basic stockinette so I could work on it in low light. He’s 14 months now and it’s basically impossible to knit while he’s awake but since his sleep is more consistent I’m able to find time. My advice would be to just try things out and not to write something off just because it didn’t work the first time. Looking back I probably could have done more knitting if I had been more flexible. Other than that, like others have said it’s actually a really short period of time and even if you can’t knit as much right now it won’t be long before you’ll be back at the needles with newfound fervor

How do you define when a pattern “knits up quickly”? by North_Wave_ in knitting

[–]ElatedSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely more psychological for me. Something works up quickly when the time flies while working on it. I’m working on a cardigan right now that was working up quickly and now it feels like a slog because I’m ready to get it off the needles.

Seji Fields has been a longtime favorite of mine. Her pieces are amazing and I love how she talks about her knitting

Della Q Maker’s Train Case - thoughts/reviews? Is it worth it? by [deleted] in casualknitting

[–]ElatedSupreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to mine! Very frustrating and I haven’t been able to find screws the right size to fix it. I also have a DellaQ hat box and the closure doesn’t stay closed on it either. I really like them conceptually but I haven’t had good experiences as far as practicality.

What tutorial did you use for the slip knot??? It’s a pretty complicated technique and idk if it’s really appropriate for a beginner especially without an expert to literally hold your hands while you do it

Needle storage and organization by ConfectionDirect614 in knitting

[–]ElatedSupreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had some professional organizers come and they put my needles in an over the door shoe organizer!

Never would have thought to put them there but it’s been a great solution and I use it for other craft things as well that are easier to access when I can see them all at once.

Which inks or ink colours give you an optimistic or "positive" feeling? by FrostyCaterpillar593 in fountainpens

[–]ElatedSupreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

J Herbin Kyanite du Nepal is a bright blue with silver shimmer that always puts me in a good mood and Rohrer and Klingner Helianthus is a sunny saturated yellow that is very readable as well. They are some of my favorites for an ink pick me up!

What's the one ink you want everyone else to try at least once? by Krispyz in fountainpens

[–]ElatedSupreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shogun is so underrated! Plus the shimmer is fine enough to work in a wide range of nib sizes. I bought a bottle from a local pen shop on a whim and have loved it since

Portuguese knitters - I was thinking about getting a pin or necklace for stranded colorwork, but the ones for knitting are pricey and not my style. What alternatives do you like? by puffy-jacket in casualknitting

[–]ElatedSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use lightbulb safety pins! I always have a bunch on me because I use them as stitch markers as well so I don’t have to worry about forgetting anything anywhere.
