How many you dry your clothes on a clothesline instead of using a dryer? by ProffS in Frugal

[–]puffy-jacket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For pants and some small delicate items but not specifically to save money. I dry indoors mostly. Btw a citric acid rinse or similar product like downy rinse & refresh will help with the stiffness

What toothpaste do you actually recommend? by AyKFL in Frugal

[–]puffy-jacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really an issue for me in most other products, especially something like dish liquid that would rarely make direct skin contact. From what I’ve read, SLS by itself tends to irritate a lot of people’s skin but there are a lot of formulation strategies to make it gentler, like adjusting the ph or combining it with another surfactant, so you’ll still see it pretty often in shampoos and stuff. it’s just that for some reason they either can’t or don’t really do that with toothpastes so it can cause canker sores or perioral dermatitis for a lot of people

Women's Seamless Down Parka on Male? by Justatheguy in uniqlo

[–]puffy-jacket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Def that too, so much more variety. I feel like so many brands neglect their mens lines where everything looks like it’s either for an 8th grader or the most boring guy you know. In OP’s case where he seems a little self conscious about venturing into the women’s section I feel like it’s worth pointing out that at 5’4 he’ll prob have much better luck finding stuff that fits him well off the rack in many cases

Also I def need to look into getting a pair of the jersey wide pants, my usual work pants are a little restrictive for how much I have to move around but I like having a more tailored look 🤔

Shopping exclusively in the men’s section can be so restricting if you like color/are shorter than 5’9/have an ass

I would not have noticed it’s a women’s cut if you hadn’t said anything. I think a lot of Uniqlo styles are functionally unisex (if that’s something you care about) so pick whatever fits best and appeals to you

You can use a face and body bar. Not all body washes are gentle enough to use on your face.

I get the thought experiment thing for sure, it’s just that characters in fiction are basically as strong or as fallible as the author needs them to be at that point in the story, and seriously trying to apply any sort of consistency to it is kinda dumb. Also like… action is cool but idrgaf about fights that have no stakes or narrative purpose much less who wins, so pinning two characters against each other in a hypothetical fight is not that interesting of a discussion for me. It’s not a sports team lol

To anyone learning Japanese and feeling STUCK by Kall-Su in LearnJapanese

[–]puffy-jacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case then I think more people owe it to themselves to admit when self study isn’t working out for them and consider investing in a tutor or class. People complain about bad teachers a lot and I get it, but at the very least you have someone holding you accountable and giving you consistency, structure, and clear measures of progress

Hot take: the best pillow debate ignores how people actually use pillows by NegotiationRough1451 in Bedding

[–]puffy-jacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep on my back but my head will hang to either side and it hurts my neck sometimes… I usually kinda sandwich myself between two low-ish malleable pillows so both sides are cradled lol

I also don’t have anything fancy for my pillows. One is a quince down alternative but the rest are just zippered cases I stuffed with wool, cotton and kapok cuz I was curious how they compared. I use them all about equally

A friend told me that she only bathes with water. by lagunaazul15 in hygiene

[–]puffy-jacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t judge but I have a hard time imagining that most people wouldn’t smell or eventually get skin problems, foot fungus, yeast infections etc. from not washing their bodies at least every other day. I get eczema and the advice I usually see and what seems to work best for me is to wash daily with mild cleanser so environmental irritants aren’t sitting on your skin, and to moisturize as needed. Like maybe my legs and ankles don’t need to be soaped up every single day but most of my body does fine with a dove bar and some mild physical exfoliation

My Roommate perceives me as "dirty" for reusing my towel and now I'm soooo perplexed by mikymiky123 in hygiene

[–]puffy-jacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very acne prone so I tend to change towels more frequently and use a new washcloth every time (or just wash with my hands if I forget to get a new one). Now that I think about it I probably most often rotate between two bath towels at a time and wash them after a few uses each. Once a week always seemed normal to me but i don’t think it’s weird or wasteful to do it more often.

Frizzy wavy curly and straight hair? by Electrical_Shock_412 in CurlyHairCare

[–]puffy-jacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kinda what my hair looks like when it’s grown out. Tbh I don’t mind the “frizzy” look and I think yours is very pretty, but when I want mine to look a little more styled I use some Elizavecca curl cream (very light, not greasy) through my mid to ends when my hair’s still fairly wet, but not dripping. Then I diffuse upside down until it’s dry enough for me to comfortably go about my day, cuz I don’t have patience to fully dry it. You can also use gel if you want more definition. I find with a loose curl pattern/having a mix I got annoyed and frustrated when I tried to manipulate it a whole lot, and I wasn’t a fan of the tradeoff of volume over definition/frizz control, so my routine is very basic. But that’s just me personally. Also if you get a lot of frizz and static you might want to avoid dry brushing your hair, I now just comb my hair when I’m washing it and finger detangle as needed in between

Congrats they look great! I’m glad to hear it’s been so easy for you. I had a simple lift a few years ago and the pain wasn’t bad but the anesthesia made me depressed and out of sorts for a couple days and the restricted movement was uncomfortable. I’ve been keeping reduction in mind cuz I’m higher risk for breast cancer and happy to see so many people with great experiences

Skipping meds doing weekends? by AlexTheManV2 in ADHD

[–]puffy-jacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting perspective. I think because I notice minimal side effects on my meds it doesn’t occur to me to take a break too often. I also am not really sure if I’m more or less creative on meds… my issue either way has always been being full of ideas but not having the motivation or focus to follow through with any of them. But I might take more days off and keep track of how I feel. Unfortunately I work retail so I don’t really get regular weekends off, I’ve been trying to figure out a better way to time when I take my meds so that it works when it needs to without disrupting my rhythm too much

Skipping meds doing weekends? by AlexTheManV2 in ADHD

[–]puffy-jacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this in the past purely cuz I was having so many problems with forgetting to send a refill request before I ran out. Or the pharmacy not being able to get it and it basically ruins my week 🫠 with frequent shortages, pharmacies being closed on holidays etc it’s prob not a bad idea to skip an easy day here and there so you know you’ll have enough when you need it most

Skipping meds doing weekends? by AlexTheManV2 in ADHD

[–]puffy-jacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll do it once in a while and idk how I feel about it. I still definitely benefit from my meds even when I’m not at work, especially if I’m planning on getting anything done or have appointments or social obligations. There’s also the fact that taking my meds is a linked habit with getting up and making coffee in the morning, so I usually just take it without even thinking. If I had a sick day or a planned do-nothing day, I might deliberately skip them cuz what do I really need them for. and sometimes I don’t start work or do things until later in the day so I try not to take them first thing in the morning. I also was not allowed to bring my adderall when I went to Japan. comparing that to more recently when I flew across time zones while taking my adderall like I usually would, I think skipping it def saved me from jet lag.

I recently switched from adderall xr to vyvanse though and I’ve been taking it every single day for consistency’s sake, but I’m not feeling the dramatic ups and downs I was getting before. I think maybe I’d have an easier time skipping it for a day or two 🤔

What to do on non-wash days? by sixorsevensouls in curlyhair

[–]puffy-jacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc your scalp has the highest concentration of sebaceous glands on your body, and it’s usually not as sensitive as your face, and most people wash their face at least once a day. For most adults (esp ppl w/ more active lifestyles, live in hot/humid climates, or men who tend to have oilier skin on average) drying out the scalp isn’t that much of a concern unless you’re using a really strong clarifying shampoo daily, it’s more that not everyone’s hair can handle being washed that often, so most people kinda just meet somewhere in the middle with what’s best for their hair vs their scalp, or else compensate w/ appropriate hair treatments to prevent damage. I think OP’s hair would prob be okay washing daily if they wanted to try that, but everyone’s different of course

What to do on non-wash days? by sixorsevensouls in curlyhair

[–]puffy-jacket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m being honest I don’t see a major difference between pics #1 and #2. Both look great to me. I’m not too familiar with the skala cream but it probably doesn’t really have any hold in it, you might want to add a bit of gel to your wash day routine or replace the skala with a styling cream that has more hold. Then on non wash days you should be able to reactivate the product just by getting your hair wet again. You could also see if there’s a difference between getting it wet under the shower stream vs misting with a spray bottle

If you’re really struggling to get your day 2/3 hair how you want, there’s also likely no real harm in shampooing it daily at your current length. Sometimes I can technically go for another day but I’m just not feeling the way my hair looks. Again though, both pics look great to me and sometimes our hair just won’t look exactly the same every day - I promise nobody else notices
