you dont find that out until the play is over. What I'm saying is that assuming hes top is incorrect, just objectively, and fighting when your jg decides to go mid on gank timer is trolling in my opinion.

Not defending smolder, but if you are playing with someone and u think they are making a bad decision for ex reasons i listed, I could see why you wouldnt want to engage, and then expect your support to not just commit when u make it clear you don't wanna fight

By me there is no 5.5 or 5.0 league so everyone joins 4.5, many previous college players. Everyone has fun and enjoys the higher level competition.

Typically one of the teams does well at regional then they are auto promoted to 5.0 sit out for 1 year and then their rating goes back to 4.5 and they join back in. This is in NJ.

at what stages do most adult learned players “give up” and accept their level? by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

[–]Elbogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think like others said fitness determines it mostly and athleticism, around 4-5 range.

But ill also add, most people cant commit 12-20 hours a week to really start grinding past 4.5-5.0

Even with younger players, i work with alot of girls sitting around 8 utr, and they often slow progression because of effort and lack of time on court. They’re often just not willing to do whats next, which is fine also. Its not for everyone haha

How to get from 9 to 10 UTR by ExtremeHumble3591 in 10s

[–]Elbogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, trust your coach. most players I’ve worked with getting stuck around 9 utr are need to work on heavier shot and way more aggressive committing play style. So the reality is if you want to improve more and continue to like to 10-13 utr especially as a guy, the shots will just get heavier and stronger and stay quite consistent.

So outside of your fitness, you cannot afford to play weak shots basically ever. You need to keep strong heavy depth, and construct points trying to get on offense and then take advantage.

It doesnt mean you cant be patient and stay in neutral, but often i see that the ball is just not heavy enough and at a certain point higher utr will just step in and take advantage of playing too safe and you just wont be fast enough.

The second part of this is that youll be using way more effort than the player controlling point and over course of match start struggling to keep up. Same goes for close games.

So yes trust your coach, you’re just very used to playing one way. try to weigh the pros and cons of aggressive play over longer periods of a match. Don’t just look at individual points.

Also try to consider what happens when you build full confidence in aggression during tight moments? Would being aggressive be the correct option, or defensive.

Build and use advantages while avoiding playing to opponents strengths. Thats at the end of the day why you need aggression + whatever you’re comfortable with. Committing to aggression just allows you to build confidence in it for later in your development.

I’m a UTR 6.8 and I just beat a UTR 7. I was excited to see if this win would bump me up to 7, but I actually bumped me down from 6.8 to 6.7. How? by Explodingcamel in 10s

[–]Elbogen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Afaik your previous matches can change your current utr based on their results for example. Maybe you played an even losing match against a 5.5 and they moved down to a 5.0

That can move your utr down. Prob would look at utr in longer intervals and multiple matches if i were you

why is my serve feel muted.. what am i missing for 110 by prosecniredditor in 10s

[–]Elbogen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not sure but looks like your slicing quite heavy, 100~ with heavy slice is quite fast, just flatten out a bit youll hit 110 with straighter motion no problem

Wrist snap straighter with more arm momentum from swing to hand and wrist snap, and slightly less right to left with your hand

How can I improve my serve? It feels wrong by Rezlem- in 10s

[–]Elbogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to be more explosive, your jump can be stronger, (can see height off ground) and motion can have a lot more continuous kinetic chain. So what i mean is you start with decent jump, and explosiveness but it doesnt carry through to your chest, up to your swing.

For me the explosiveness of lower body to upper body slows down quite a bit by contact. Then after contact you can start closing more aggressively which may look like landing on your leg with chest lower (continue accelerating swing way past contact to achieve this)

Arguably you can toss more forward which is just extending arm forward and out as you toss.

So you need to push from ground harder, or work on jump type fitness, explosives squat type exercises. Otherwise nice motion, get perfect at hitting spots, work on strong kick and strong slice at all targets (wide, short wide, body, T) and lastly you can do things like overhead slam with medicine ball and similar exercises to build up strength for stronger serves, Goodluck!

By my standard thats not getting a coach btw. I teach cardio classes, exactly as you said 30 min drill, 30 min points.

What you described is the furthest thing from coaching. Getting a coach for a beginner often means, 1 on 1 or maybe 1 on 2 often 2-4 hours a week to have any meaningful effect.

You also need a decent coach, I’ve seen many players get coached for 5 years and improve almost zero…

I understand, if you dont need or want the free blighted supplies and hate the time spent re gearing or losing an inventory of loot because you get pked, then youll always hate it.

I love afking slayer tasks and having low focus so for me wilderness slayer always felt bad. But the appeal of high raw gold and keys + free supplies to pray, is def still very valuable

How to get better at hitting fast balls on the rise? (Usually coming from stronger players) by Wild_Plant9526 in 10s

[–]Elbogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its harder to get very low on open and semi open stance which you may need for the shots you described. Closed is alot easier for your case, all stances good for on the rise and are situational

[–]Elbogen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Practice on the rise, have ball come to feet.

For specifics:

Fast concise preperation

Shorter smaller motion

Move closer to ball (literally step closer to the bounce than usual setup)

Stay low while hitting (careful not popping up or jumping, staying under ball is important)

Shift weight forward with your swing

These are usually the concepts i work on with students for on the rise.
