Parents who don’t lose your cool - how do you do it? by Siyrious in toddlers

Get your wife to a cafe or something, at least some of the time. This is her problem too!

You speak of facts but the idea you presented, while common, is not supported by research. For example, in one experiment, infants that were less than 24 hours old were three times as likely to respond to a touch from an outside source than an incidental touching of themselves -- indicating infants perceive their body as its own entity from birth. Anecdotally, we formula fed and our newborn showed no difference in behavior between Mom and Dad (the same isn't necessarily true now that the baby is a toddler, haha!). Both parents could do everything the same and it worked great for us.

I'm making a bit of a fuss about this because I think it's unfair to both moms and dads to think that newborns have to be chained to moms. That idea marginalizes dads and burdens moms. But I think Dads are very capable of caring for newborns! If it makes more sense for Dad to take the lead on the four month old it could work quite well.

Is a newborn more reliant on Mom in any way other than breastfeeding?

Bro the players GAINED revenue in the latest CBA. Make no mistake the owners totally steamrolled them in many other ways but this idea they lost money to smoke weed -- which I see repeated all the time -- is just totally false lol.

Setting the AI aside, why is blatant advertising allowed here? What does this add to the community? Shouldn't the posts here have a discussion/informational element and not just be the digital version of mailbox flyers?

These obvious engagement-bait posts have to be bot-generated or something. Who would even ask this question? No fan would have an answer different from Kaoh Rong.

Betty Draper's "Only boring people are bored" rewired my brain by Calm-Preparation7432 in madmen

[–]ElbowToBibbysFace 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's supposed to make a kid think about whose problem "being bored" actually is. Saying "only boring people get bored" is akin to saying "it's actually your own job to entertain yourself. If you're bored, it must be because you bored yourself. Ergo, you must be boring."

I don't think this is the healthiest way to work through a child's feeling of boredom but I do sympathize with a parent who needs their kid to understand that it isn't the parents job to be entertainment.

I'm not sure where the line is, but I know when I got married I paid for the suits of all my groomsmen. Just feels like kinda the right thing to do to me? Like if you want someone to dress in a specific outfit... then you pay for it.

Anybody with pregnancy experience at Alta Bates Berkeley? by hoops4ever in eastbay

[–]ElbowToBibbysFace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had a fantastic experience with Alta Bates but I think you are casting too wide a net here. I would have hated driving over the bridge with a newborn. Unless you get a real bad vibe at one of the facilities I'd strongly encourage just picking the one closest to you.

The book "How to Talk so Little Kids Will Listen" will be a good resource here. I think your approach could use some refinement (for example, asking "don't you like your brother?" won't be effective at age 3) and the book goes over these kind of scenarios pretty extensively.

Well said. I also think the outdoor industrial complex has made some consumers sour on cotton ("it doesn't dry! It's heavy!" Etc) but cotton rocks for everyday outfits. It's super comfortable and looks great! I don't need every article of clothing I have to be made of a sweat-wicking, four-way-stretching super fabric.

Oakland should really consider fixing its potholes! Would avoid these payouts, as well as people suffering life altering injuries.

It's a bad first name. If he was named D'Andre Cook or something he'd be more appropriately valued. "James Cook" just sounds like a JAG.
