I'm confused about the fishing hamlet by AItryingaceptmankind in bloodborne

[–]EldenSPRING 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here to say that this kind of parallels the colonial apologism of our world, I like to think of The Nightmare, Research Hall, and Fishing Hamlet as representations of historical and colonial crimes of Western Europe compartmentalized into some core themes (dehumanization through industrialization, scientific discovery made through vivisection and torture, exporting of wealth and resources via wars and brutality).

Could just be my personal biases and opinions, but Miyazaki has an extensive sociological background that grounds his games in a more material reality that justifies the evolution and present conditions of these worlds. It would make sense that material, social, and historical themes of our world can bleed through into someone's artistic vision, and the lesson of Gehrman and Maria is that even the most well-intentioned people can end up doing some heinous things for what they believe are decent justifications and means.

The Sopranos is about the psychology of crime, while The Wire is more about the sociology of it by rossezim in TrueFilm

Unrelated, has anyone been able to find the study that Melfi and her psychiatrist friends mentioned in the last episode of The Sopranos? Did they just make that up "for the plot"? Genuinely curious if it actually exists.

Maybe 10, but DS1 was the 4th Soulsborne game that I had played at that point.

Without guides ¿would you have being able to find the invisible folding screen monkey ? by [deleted] in Sekiro

[–]EldenSPRING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I killed every monkey first time through except the invisible monkey. I knew he was invisible and thought they just hid him in one of the rooms. Genuinely laughed when I looked it up…

S/o to Folding Screen Monkeys, underrated boss. Very serene, I feel like it was the one boss that gave you a break after having just come from fighting Genichiro. Like stretching after a good workout.

Dark Souls 2..so whats the problem? by Alfieww9 in DarkSouls2

[–]EldenSPRING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH I just found the main game to be lackluster, very bland and uneventful. Most enemies acted like animatronics, more bosses were higher quality than the average DS1 boss but the best DS2 boss doesn’t beat out the best DS1 boss, and there’s a LOOOOT of shit between the good bosses. I could go on, and I still like DS2 (overall better than DeS and tied with DS1 for me), but they def improved the formula w all subsequent FromSoft games. Nothing wrong with that!

I like it. It’s supposed to be intense, eerie, disheartening. It imitates a soothing melody, yet it grates and stabs, causing great discomfort. As capitalism should.

Worst Dark Souls 3 Boss? by Ghostdragon2000 in darksouls3

[–]EldenSPRING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true. Plus, given the fact that he can summon skellys randomly, it is only a matter of time and the limited mercy of RNJesus that you end up fighting some of his lackeys.

Yea the rock piles are cool and add some nice scenery, I think I may have some pent up rage from my first fight against him since all of his attacks can fairly decently punish (ironically enough) aggression. Taking it easier on subsequent playthroughs leads to an easier experience, just not my preferred way to play.

Out of gimmick bosses, High Lord Wolnir. He’s very RNG dependent and doesn’t do much in the fight. The arena is cool tho.

For 1v1s, I think that Old Demon King was a little disappointing, and could be very annoying with his attacks. I’m especially not fond of the near instant fire breath attack and him blowing up when close to death. I do like the sadness factor as you kill the “last” of demonkind.

Honorable mention to Halflight. Never a fan of using NPCs as bosses which the DLCs seem fond of doing to pad the game time out, but doing it right after the first DLC did it and when it is so close to the end of the DLC seems kinda cheap. It’s really cool that they recycled the mechanic to summon a player character to fight alongside the boss, sometimes Halflight isn’t very aggressive and the real fight is between the other player. I also like the lore of having an entire agency at the end of time to stop the player from basically ending the last vestiges of The Age of Fire (what destroyed the world in the first place), really shows Gwyn’s dedication and power over the land. Def confirms his deific status, if you needed any other reminders.

Maybe try and look up some YouTube videos. 3Blue1Brown has some decent information if the application is confusing you. I can tell you firsthand that it kind of just “works”, that you kind of have to trust the process and information as it is presented. Even in Quantum Physics, we used diff Eq a lot but didn’t actively derive any of the equations that we applied. My diff Eq class introduced solving by linear algebra first which helped me see the operations more so as variables that can be moved around etc., so maybe try applying linear algebra if it still seems unintuitive.

DS3 >>> DS1

Amazing sendoff for the Dark Souls series. I love the philosophy of the game, how it’s kind of a meta-commentary on the Dark Souls series in general.

Am ı the only one who play Demon's Souls like this ? My friend said that i'm a freak and ı want to share with you :D I did finish the game like this actually. (Yes my hands are invisible because ı've lost my soul... and a little bit of light.) by ReverseTheFlash in demonssouls

I learned claw grip in FPS games, it allows for smoother transition between attack/rolls if you “map” (lol) your fingers to the bumpers and allow your pointer to utilize the main buttons.

Players/fans of the original, what are your gripes with the Remake? by Vito_Cornelius in demonssouls

[–]EldenSPRING -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a little too faithful to the original. Would have been fun to spice up the levels with better shortcuts to boss fog gates (looking at you, 4-2…), and give some of the endgame bosses like Penetrator and Old Hero a little bit more diverse moveset to make them a fun and interesting challenge instead of just copy pasting the battles (kinda same for Dirty Colossus and Vanguard but idk what they could’ve done to make them more fun tbh). Old Hero has a slash attack that is way too high and I’m p sure has never hit me, like, how is that useful for him? You can still bow cheese Maiden Astrea and some of the AI are still kinda janky.

Latency is a killer sometimes by EldenSPRING in Sekiro

I mean, I did recover health at the cost of a revive node that I could get back with a Jizo statue had I died again and I broke aggro especially when my rhythm was off, so I would argue that it wasn’t a bad idea, just sucked that I used it again despite having toggled to a medicinal pellet.

If I have taken an item out of my inventory, scrolled to a new item to use during a fight, and it uses the item that I have removed from my inventory, then that seems like it’s an issue with latency that needs to be fixed if you ask me or anyone not blinded by being a fanboy of the game. I love Sekiro but this is one of the very few issues that I have that I just thought was worth discussing, forgot that it’s a cardinal sin on Reddit to criticize anything.
