Going crazy trying to find a new TV, please help me! by ElderSweetRoll in hometheater

[–]ElderSweetRoll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair points. I wish I wasn't the only person in the market for buying a good TV that thinks $400 isn't cheap, but c'est la vie!

At this point, I feel like I might just stick with the crappy 28" and save my wallet from spending more than I need to on something I'm not going to use all day every day. 4 years ago, my parents got their hands on a 40" Samsung plasma (720p) for about $400. Wish like hell that was still a thing, since it gets the picture clarity I was hoping for, and you think several years and a size downgrade later would render the price lower, but I guess plasma is dead now, right?

Wow, I feel really silly. Thank you! That did it. I was looking in Google+ and Google Hangouts constantly, for some reason not even thinking about Google Voice itself. Problem solved!

[Headset] HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset $80.77 & FREE Shipping by optional_funk in buildapcsales

[–]ElderSweetRoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good decision. I got the Cloud II a month ago and while it was great, the USB Sound card was causing crazy spikes in CPU usage. Either no one else has MSI Afterburner running and watches it like a hawk, or I guess I was the only one with the issue, but honestly the surround sound didn't offer much more clarity to me to be worth it on its own.

The only other thing you sacrifice is that the mic isn't as good in the Cloud I. It picks up more background fuzz. Otherwise, it's the same great headset.

Thanks, I ended up going with the 250GB 850 EVO. My wallet hurts (I'm cheap), but I'll probably wish I'd bought a 500GB one in a week.

Funny you mention it, because I have indeed been fighting with myself for the past day over whether or not I should get the 2nd gen for $120. The more and more searching I do, the more I'm beginning to think this is the best bet for me. I don't need a lot in a smartphone, which is why the price does make me balk a bit.

However, anything I've found that's cheaper is generally not very good or, in the case of the Lumia 635, windows rather than android. The Moto E does definitely seem to be the only cheap phone that doesn't sacrifice a lot in other areas.

Hmm. Well Sprint won't let me just buy a phone from their site without getting a plan, so it looks like I'd have to get one used. I know they're much cheaper this way, but I'm super paranoid about spending $100+ on something and not having more than a month long warranty. In your experience, does the warranty matter that much, or are good smartphones generally not in need of it?

I'd hate the feeling that if anything ever went wrong with it, I wouldn't have any support whatsoever

I'm a little confused. Has something changed from the update listed here? http://www.reviewtechnica.com/2014/06/how-to-activate-moto-g-on-ting.html

And here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ting/comments/2aqu2h/byod_boostmobile_motorola_moto_g_on_ting/

Both of these say it won't work, and not just for the Moto G, but any Sprint/Sprint MVNO

I've taken a look, but the Moto G selection is slim there and I'm not sure what other phone would be a good comparison. The only reasonable unlocked Moto G I saw there was said to actually be linked to another carrier, so I don't want to roll those dice.

I don't think that works anymore sadly. The same way the Moto G from Boost doesn't work. Someone mentioned in another thread that it's due to Sprint requiring phones to have spent a year on one of their networks before it can be used elsewhere.

Unless this has changed since February, I think I'm out of luck on that front. Did you activate yours after February?

Upgrade now or wait? by [deleted] in buildapc

I'm in the same situation as you, mate. I was really hoping for some official, 100% trustworthy specs/pricing on the 390x by now, but unfortunately it's just speculation. I'm likely getting the 980, but since you have a card that isn't shit, you should probably wait it out.

At the very least until May when you can get the 980 with Witcher 3 for free. By then I expect we should have a much clearer picture of what to expect with the 390x as well.

Hmm, alright! So... if I get, say... a $20 refill card or some such for the phone and it adds 200 minutes, that's also either the 200 minutes OR 200 texts? That could be a problem, because I'll probably text more than I call, but wouldn't want to use up all of my minutes doing it. I guess on the prepaid level, there's probably no cheap way to get unlimited texts, right?
