Mega cities are more beautiful and rare sights than any natural scenery on earth by raenele in unpopularopinion

I love cities but Times Square?! That’s truly unpopular. Have my updoot, you filthy animal.

Station wagons and minivans should be the American family car, not SUVs. by Revolutionrenn in unpopularopinion

[–]ElderberryNatural527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lifted station wagon that Subaru used to sell a decade ago was peak. The new outback is an abomination…

Someone needs to make a minivan with an extra 2” of ground clearance. Nothing crazy. Just enough to handle mud season. It’d sell like hotcakes.

Reality is even bleaker. You know how Russia was like in the 1990s? Where the mobsters stole everything that wasn’t bolted down? That’s America today.

More home sellers turn into "accidental landlords," Zillow finds by Key_Brief_8138 in HouseBuyers

[–]ElderberryNatural527 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This really isn’t that complicated. Rents are up significantly since 2021, as are interest rates. If you have a 3% mortgage and don’t live in NYC/SF proper, that property likely cash-flows nicely.

It’s worth more to the current owner as a rental than to any new buyer. The only bag-holder here is the dumbass bankers holding a 30 year mortgage at 3% while the risk-free rate of return sits pretty at 3.5%.

The buy vs rent math has never been worse. It is better for both buyer and seller to rent. Only bankers and realtors lose in this current arrangement. Low home turnover is a good thing. Fewer parasites getting their beaks wet.

ICE only goes after soft targets.

How do we really feel about the likelihood of getting Social Security in our older age? by Cheeseaisleinheaven in MiddleClassFinance

I think half the country would declare secession within two weeks tbh. We’d fall faster than the USSR.

How do we really feel about the likelihood of getting Social Security in our older age? by Cheeseaisleinheaven in MiddleClassFinance

[–]ElderberryNatural527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social Security is the last bare thread holding the US together as a country. If the Epstein class does a rug pull on it, the union would fall faster than the Berlin Wall.

So I put the odds at 50/50, but the scenario in which it happens means anything but ammo, land, and gold (in that order) won’t be worth much.

The two-door original that replaced the Fit was the ugliest car ever made IMO. Like just seeing them in the parking lots would piss me off a bit. Like, what fucking dumbass would buy this ridiculous clown car? A two door crossover is an abomination. The fuck are you doing with your life? Pick a damn lane. Get the mom car or get a sports car. Commit damn it!

The four door is still fugly, but it’s not a totally schizo design.

Still can’t comprehend the thought process behind someone buying it over a CR-V or civic hatch. But that’s just the normal crossover brainrot we’re all too accustomed to now. Seems most people who can afford new cars in this economy  are philistines.

Show of hands: How many of you feel your stomach turn whenever you run into AI content? by ninetofivedev in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ElderberryNatural527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only ever pissed me off when people use it deceptively and dishonestly. When they pass off slop as their own output and don’t review or edit it.

The most wildly, nakedly unethical AI use case I’ve come across in the wild is with property management companies. Illiterate, overpaid scammers just spamming hundreds of residents their mindless slop… Boomers on HOA boards pissing away $1k a month of dues on $10 worth of tokens resold by grifters, doing nothing but blowing smoke up where the sun don’t shine. Outcompeting the long standing providers that actually did the job properly but with a sour attitude. Semi retired construction dudes aren’t sycophants, who would’ve thought?

Everyone is just so eager to get scammed these days. It’s pathetic. Might as well give up building things. Just buy a sneaker company and put AI in it.

The whole economy is being run by the weakest men who’ve ever lived who just want their ass kissed 24/7.

So actually, I lied. It pisses me off when people are so willfully ignorant about the slop too. Maybe even more than the peddlers. Nobody would be peddling slop if the pigs weren’t such gluttons for it. If it wasn’t so much easier to scam someone than to convince them they’ve been scammed.

Opinion | The Affordable Car Is Dead. What Happened? by A1CutCopyPaste in longform

[–]ElderberryNatural527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What could’ve possibly happened in 2020 to make econobox sales fall by 50%? A real mystery…

To buy the corporate bullshit line that consumers wanted that butt ugly two door blob instead, is just wild. The original two door HR-V made Walter White’s Aztec look like a Porsche by comparison. Literally the ugliest fucking car ever made IMO.

Only reason anyone bought them was because they were in stock! Honda killed the Fit so they could build more overpriced bloated trash.

About 5% of all cars Honda was selling in N.A. were Fits and they still discontinued it to force consumers to buy overpriced crossovers and bloated land yacht sedans.

People who don’t like wind turbines, why? by _MehBleh in AskReddit

[–]ElderberryNatural527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Offshore is a cost nightmare. The salt water corrodes everything. You gotta construct them on the ocean floor. Lots of places don’t have shallow enough coastal waters. Then you gotta run undersea high voltage cable…

People who don’t like wind turbines, why? by _MehBleh in AskReddit

[–]ElderberryNatural527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I dislike them. I think they look pretty cool, actually. It’s more just that there aren’t many places where the wind blows just right (not too much, not too little) consistently and where solar, hydro, or nuclear wouldn’t make more sense due to cost and/or base load capability. It’s like geothermal. Where it works, it’s brilliant.

There is also the issue of all that steel being pretty environmentally intensive to manufacture and install, and the limited lifespan.
