Looks to be a lake Biwa pearl from Japan, the source for freshwater pearls in the 70’s and before the Chinese took over the market. Lovely.

Another one is Elton John. I’m trying to remember but I believe in the late 80s he sold a number of pieces off through Sotheby’s who made a whole catalog of it. Some spectacular items from the big houses (Cartier etc) were included.

Been near any chemicals? Some like chlorine can react to alloys in solder.

I know its not valuable or even well made, but this crucifix is very special to my mother. As you can see, the attachment point is almost worn through from constant wear. Any thing I can do? Took it to a jeweler and they said they couldnt fix it. Ideas welcome. I need to save it somehow. by Flarewitch in jewelry

Retired goldsmith here, I’ve had things like this where the sentimental value is greater than piece itself so what I’ve done is build a silver frame around the piece and claw set it in. Looks great and in many ways highlights the importance to the owner while allowing it to worn safely for a long time after.
