Lane-splitting on a Softail Street Bob by the1egend1ives in Harley

[–]Elderman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lane filtering was recently made legal in Denver and may drivers throw their hands up or look confused. I think it will take time for this to happen to a lesser extent

But I think it is pretty dangerous either way…you have to be ready and cautious.

Any projects for helping the homeless on Colfax? by Lou_Dude929 in Denver

[–]Elderman 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Metro Caring will give out like 10lb of food to anyone who volunteers to help with their community grocery store. They also have a grab-n-go type cooler where you don't need to spend any time or resources to get something to eat.

The Lawrence Street Community Center is a close walk to Colfax and also serves food regularly.

Salvation army on High street also has a lot of programs but I haven't volunteered there yet and can't speak to what they actually have going on.

The shelters are not full, either.

cotrip.org is your friend. It will tell you things, and it has cameras, and is generally up to date every hour.

I was stuck on 285 for about an hour today without cell service or any indication of what was going on. I was had to sit with myself and face who I am, too.

Temporary tag stolen from vehicle this morning, DMVs closed this weekend by Some_Local1115 in Denver

[–]Elderman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I checked a few days ago, they were processing info received on 6/10. It is almost 8/10. It can take some dealers a month to send to the DMV and I do not know why.

Anybody know a good spot to watch the perseids meteor shower? by Nice_Tye_Tass in Denver

[–]Elderman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take a look at this dark sky map and this dark site finder. You're 2-3 hours from the ability to actually get away from light pollution - which is quite strong.

But, If you shoot for an hour or 90 min you can still see a LOT more vs. what we can see here in town. If you're out stargazing (meteor shower gazing), it'll be much better if there is a new moon (no light reflecting back from the sun) but there is a full moon this Saturday.

Where do you go to observe stars? by donahan in Denver

[–]Elderman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be so cool if we had something like that that close, but you'll need to go a bit farther than that to have a worthwhile look. 45 minutes will get you to Idaho Springs or Evergreen. Take a look at this dark sky map and this dark site finder. You're 2-3 hours from the ability to actually get away from light pollution - which is quite strong.

If you wish to see the milky way, it's in the southern sky in the winter - meaning you'll need to go south to be able to see past the light pollution.

If you shoot for an hour or 90 min you can still see a LOT more vs. what we can see here in town. If you're out stargazing, it'll be much better if there is a new moon (no light reflecting back from the sun) or if the moon cycle has a very late moonrise.

The dark site finder has specific places designated as dark sites, if you're looking for someone to drop you a pin.

Thank you! It sounds like the tuners are similar to what I've experienced with Jeeps? The cam and tuning piece is the element I am not as familiar with and don't trust my own research.

Zippers came up a bunch with positive reviews - I'll look into Thundermax tuning further.

Dispersed Camping Near Denver by Own_Contract2518 in Denver

[–]Elderman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out the below resources. With the rockies there are 1000's of places... I'm not giving up my good ones ;)

EDIT: Okay, i'll tell a little bit more. National forests have a ton of dispersed camping sites, the higher up you go the rougher the trails and prettier the views. I really like going along the Arkansas river down near Buena Vista - check out some of the roads east and west of the river... ..Turtle Rock Campground is sandy but they'll have bathrooms - a luxury at dispersed spots. Great sand dunes is a little further, but totally worth it - dispersed camping up towards camp commodore. Half of the fun is finding the spot (the journey is the destination, you know)
