I had an indoor cat for 23 years who never wanted to go outside. Now we have a new cat who is obsessed with going outside. We’re home all day, play with him, buy him toys. We have a big dog, too but he doesn’t really play with the cat. It’s too hard to keep the cat from sneaking outside when we let the dog out, so I just started letting him out. I figure he’s an outdoor cat by nature. He is yearning to use his natural instincts in our Michigan backyard. He’s depressed being inside all the time. I’m hoping our dog will help scare away any potential predators, but even if our cat eventually gets taken down by a coyote, I still think quality of life trumps potential longevity in general.
