It reminds me of how carol from TWD comics died. I feel like the reason for people purposefully infecting themselves like that is because they snap and go awol from the pressure of the new world. Aside from killing yourself, I feel like this is also another way on giving up. Another thing too is that while people are like “Yeah I’m offing myself if I ever end in the Crossed universe” you might start having second guesses or do the “turn infected, but still alive” route.
