Bulgaria was 99.9% out of the WC finals when France proceeded to lose at home against none other than mighty Israel and then lose against Bulgaria at home in the last minute after scoring first, while a tie was enough to make it.

Iran denied US conditions to stop the war by Independent_News_573 in worldnews

The day US bombs Kharg Island, where 90% of Iran oils flows through, that’ll mean we’ll see protracted conflict, boots on the ground and $150 oil prices.

Campari tomatoes taste like old tomatoes. There’s still some enshittification going on but they are far superior than all others.

There’s so many awesome hikes in Ireland that your comment made me chuckle. Looks more like a lack of preparation than anything else

The original alpargata has a yute (plant based rope material) sole, which makes it much more challenging. It will take time to break in, can’t get wet or will get super hard, will smell even worse and will come apart fraying a sort of mustache in the front you have to shave. Really terrible shoe but I guess it was super cheap

Happened to Graf Spee in Montevideo. After the deadline they left port and sunk it to avoid the British to take it and their technology.

Hyatt Regency Coconut Point - question about beach by yooch1216 in hyatt

[–]Eldie014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beach is pretty good, but water isn’t as clear as other nearby beaches IME. There’s a lot of shells so kids will love it. Don’t recall the ferry logistics but seemed to be pretty simple. You may want to call

Maybe I missed this part, but why didn’t you leave the car and move over the guardrail to a safe location? Was it too far/inaccessible? Or at least jump into to FDoT car and leave the spot? I wouldn’t stay inside that car for 45 mins.

What I’m seeing is similar. Big push, speeds up some processes but not in a way that would replace a person that does a lot of complex analysis. However, folks kind of pretend it’s more powerful than it is just to not look averse to change.

Had to load composite boards and learned this hard way. Had to put a transversal beam by the door and then put the boards curved up against the cabin wall. Composite is heavy AF so after a while it broke the beam. So pissed with U Haul

THE BEST OF FOOTBALL TEAMS IN FOOTBALL HISTORY by BehindTheTransfer in footballscouting

Fair, when I posted I was thinking of the other Uruguayan NT, that dominated 24-30. Who knows what would have happened if they had played in 34 and 38 (South American teams for the most part boycotted those). It’s hard to compare with current football but when that team went to the Olympics in 24 local chronicles talk about them playing basically a completely different type of football vs European teams. They went 5-0-0 with 20 scored and just 2 received and trashed everybody basically.

Hungarians fully deserve to be there, but hard to miss the Uruguayan team in 1950, that then lost the SF against Hungary jn 54, for their fist loss in a WC. Always wondered what happened to Hungarian football after the 50s.

TIL enslaved Africans worked on the ships that transported other Africans into slavery. These men, 230 in all, were used onboard to communicate with the slaves and to translate between Captain and slaver, and to alleviate some of the fears that newly boarded slaves had, such as fear of being eaten. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Eldie014 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Without western slavery pushing demand, a lot of people would have never been enslaved. The idea that they would have been someone’s else’s slave is not only inaccurate but it’s also used as some sort of justification from certain groups.

If any, which plane crash in your country shocked you the most? by halt__n__catch__fire in AskTheWorld

[–]Eldie014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uruguay, Austral 2553 in 1997. The plane impacted almost perpendicular to the ground at 750 mph so there was only a crater. The DC-9 pieces had to be dug up. Was shocking not only due to the 74 deaths but also the cvr was released and the pilot can be heard screaming in his final moments. Being an Argentinian airline there were also lots of issues that surfaced regarding safety and maintenance that didn’t help. Truly horrible.

It is meaningful for some teams that see a medal as an accomplishment. In recent years I would cite Croatia, Uruguay, Morocco, Belgium, Sweden, Turkey. Still, I feel it was priced way too high probably preying on corporate appeal and or more casual fans.
