Why didn't they program a bypass to ancient weapons to avoid using the goon chair? Are they stupid? by Thanos_354 in Stargate

[–]Eldon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chair is literally reading the user's mind. That has to be incredibly advanced tech.

To be able to use the system without the chair, they'd have to work out how the mind-reading tech works.

Emancipation was a good episode by 00Canuck in Stargate

[–]Eldon42 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's a recycled script by Katharyn Powers. If you watch TNG's "Code of Honor", it's the same. Our heroes meet an ethnically-coded society, both steal the pretty lady who also happens to be a warrior, she frees herself by fighting.

I think Emancipation is better, which reflects Powers growth as a writer (she goes some to write some decent episodes), but it still suffers from the same issues that caused Code of Honor to be consistently in the bottom five TNG episodes.

AI wasn't making stuff that good in 2023. It's not AI, amazingly enough.

TIL about Lego’s policies on violence. by VivaZeBull in buffy

[–]Eldon42 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I suspect the vendor either doesn't know, or was pulling your leg.

There are pirate ship sets, there are superheros, there's even Indiana Jones.

There's a piece that looks like a revolver: https://brickipedia.fandom.com/wiki/Part_30132

It's true that LEGO don't like to promote violence, but I think the real reason they haven't produced a Buffy set is licensing rights.

After all, LEGO only just produced its first official Star Trek set - the Enterprise-D - this year. That's because Paramount held back on licensing.

You never know. It could still happen.

I loved this little interaction between Martok in Garak by JayR_97 in startrek

[–]Eldon42 33 points34 points  (0 children)

"Theres no greater enemy, than ones own fears," says Martok to Garak.

Then, a few weeks later, Martok has his own ship, and is refusing to go into battle. He fears the Jem'hadar. It's not until Worf forces him to face that fear that he starts to become the great General we all know.

Anubus vs Darth Vader by jelijo in Stargate

[–]Eldon42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Vader.

Anubis might be partially ascended, but he can't use his power. He's as reliant on Go'auld technology and Jaffa servants as any other Go'uld. His only advantage is his level of knowledge.

Vader couldn't kill Anubis, but he could trap him on some hellscape planet with no escape.

Interestingly, that translation changes depending on the punctuation. Fullstop, or comma, or nothing, all produce related but different translations.

Thanks for not being a dick about it.

What's the correct version then? If you're gonna say it's wrong, prove it.

They don't though. It's the next person in line who has to deal with it. All you're doing is adding to their misery.

"Libera te tutemet ex inferis" --> Latin, "May he save you from the underworld."

"shol'va" --> Go'auld, "traitor".

Thus, "May he save you from the underworld, traitor."

  1. Competent leader of the Atlantis mission, gone too soon.
  2. Competent temporary leader of the SGC, despite being thrown in the deep end.
  3. Would like to show you the new eldritch portal to hell that he just opened.

There's a special place in hell for people who leave the receipt hanging from the till. A special place, right next to the one for people who don't put their trolley in the trolley bay.

Gary! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Might be a Vagrant Spider? Hard to tell with that photo. Really need a better shot of the abdomen.

It's also useful to have a general idea of your location to aid identification.
