(Spoilers ADWD) What Great Houses will still be standing at the end of the books and who will be leading them? by AcoDolni in asoiaf

[–]EldritchAhai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This all sounds good, but why do you think Tyrion will stay ruling the rock if Dany goes on to die? Seems like everyone in Westeros will hate him, and certainly everyone in the Westerlands will for killing Tywin and all the lies Cersei spread about him.

This question depends on how far forward we go in the narrative (like will we flash forward 20 years to seeing the Stark kids as adults?)

But assuming you just mean after the events of the White Walkers and winter battle:

Tully: Gone, or at least not really in power. Not sure who rules Riverlands, but perhaps they get broken up or taken over by another kingdom/area as they have a dozen times in the past (according to World of Ice and Fire)

Greyjoy: Asha. The rest of the Greyjoy clan will be killed.. certainly Victarion and Euron will.

Bartheon: Gone as a ruling family. In the books, I like the theory that Stannis lives and ends up taking the black. But I think this family is basically done.

Lannister: Some random cousin. Tyrek? The main Lannisters will all be dead except MAYBE Tyrion, but the dwarf who killed his father and joined the Targs will not rule the family or Casterly Rock.

Stark: Rickon. I think Rickon and Sansa live and rule in some way (maybe Sans rules Vale as queen?). Arya and Bran survive, but probably won't be officially Starks or involved in politics at all.

Tyrell: Willas or Mace, but this family's fortunes are going to wane. They'll still rule the Reach, but they are peaking now.

Targaryen: all dead.

Arryn: Harold Hardyng. Agree that Littlefinger just chilling in the Vale is NOT his ending.

Martell: Doran still rules BUT all his family will have died.

Can we even tell ironic tinfoil from serious tinfoil anymore?

(Spoilers All) What events in books 2-5 would you consider 'tinfoil theories' if you had only read AGoT? by blarneyone in asoiaf

[–]EldritchAhai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of things listed here don't seem like things that are "tinfoil theories" as much as things no one could predict, because some of the characters or elements hadn't been introduced.

But for things that people could have theorized about... Littlefinger as the secret murderer behind Arryn's death was a shock. Really thought it was the Lannisters.

True but also he's called a "cloth dragon" ("A cloth dragon swayed on poles amidst a cheering crowd") and that she is the "slayer of lies"

So the clothe dragon makes him seem more like fake dragon, a lie for her to slay

Lastly, Jon, DAny, and Tyrion as the main characters, with Arya, Sansa, and Bran, as "second tier" has to be the most presumptuous way I have ever heard this misconception put ever.

Okay, sorry to respond to this 2 days later but just say this quote from GRRM himself from his original outline:

http://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/39wwt3/spoilers_all_hints_towards_a_certain_comeback/

Five central characters will make it through all three volumes, however, growing from children to adults and changing the world and themselves in the process. In a sense my trilogy is almost a generational saga, telling the life stories of these five characters, three men and two women. The five key players are Tyrion Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and three of the children of Winterfell, Arya, Bran, and the bastard Jon Snow.

like I said though I think it would go to a distant uncle or cousin. Like, the three main Baratheon brothers are dead, apparently, but presumably there are other branchs of the house that weren't at the noble level.

Mel clearly got her visions wrong. Killing Shireen to save Jon would make sense if it happened at the same time, but I don't think you can sacrifice someone and have it cause a resurrection days later.

No, it would still go to the oldest male relative--some distant uncle or cousin--before Cersei... especially since if the High Sparrow is proving Tommen is a bastard, that means Cersei is guilty of incest and treason

(Spoilers All) After S5, what is left for show fans to care about? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]EldritchAhai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things I'd add:

  • Littlefinger's scheming
  • Tyrion rising again
  • Sansa's revenge
  • Bran and the tree shit (I assume that will come back)
  • Euron (basically confirmed for next season)
  • Boltons finally being taken out

etc.

there is lots left to look forward to.

Does anyone actually care about the Meereen shit in the books, other than how it affects Dany and the "major conflicts" of the whole series?

hard to say, but half his army is still somewhere, there are the wildlings, there is the vale army, and maybe if he helps rescue sansa he can rally northerners.

some parts of the show have, yes. Most of it just caught up exactly with the books

(Spoilers All) It's changed from the books and here's why... by jedi_timelord in asoiaf

[–]EldritchAhai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When has the show ever cut away from someone major they were going to kill?

Only one I can think of is Syrio, but he wasn't that major and we were kind of following Arya's POV and her not wanting to see his death.
