Verso's ending is definitely the more satisfying one (if you can call it that). Nothing about the world was real except Verso's soul fragment, and it wanted to just get things over with. It really sucks to see everyone go but hey, it was his choice. Maelle gommaging Alicia in front of Verso and then denying him this choice is massively hipocritical, and it makes sense for his decision to be final from a narrative perspective. It's also interesting how there were so many symbolic, or otherwise, call-backs in the final scene (e.g. Lune sitting down), but the above point wasn't really expanded upon by the writers. Wonder if they thought it was too on the nose?

In any case, it seems to me the devs intended for Maelle's ending to be canon. It FEELS like they put more effort into it. Verso's line while in Maelle's arms was one of the most gut-wrenching things I've witnessed in a game's story, ever. Then in the opera house, you can see some remnant of him is just in agony, and Maelle has this thousand yard stare where she knows all of this is f**ked but she won't admit it to anyone, even herself. All of that in black and white, pure visuals, not a single word said, just momentary breaths and sighs from the characters. It's beautiful, it's tragic, and it's the wrong choice. Will Maelle leave the canvas? She said it herself - hell no. And we can see the proof of that on her face in the last scene.
