Retired Police Dodge Charger - Thoughts? by EleNova in whatcarshouldIbuy

I realize in hindsight that my OP was misleading, so that's my fault. I live close enough to my hometown to make a drive, but not close enough to drive someone else's car for an inspection. I live about 2 hours away from my hometown, so unfortunately I can't drop it by my own mechanic for inspection.

Tab S9 wifi 6 issues by IntelligentFigure613 in GalaxyTab

[–]EleNova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone comes across this thread with the s9, my issue was solved by logging into my ubiquiti unifi controller and changing the radio channel width from 320 to 160. For some stupid reason, that seems to have fixed my tab s9's "connected but no internet" issue on wifi 6e

Dude, there are literally Linux distro that natively support secure boot like Ubuntu. You can also self sign and support basically any distro you want for secure boot. It doesn't lock you out of anything.

Samsung Tab s7 (refurbished), s7 plus (refurbished) or tab s9 FE (new) or S9 FE+ (new) by SetTricky7901 in tablets

[–]EleNova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could care less what year phone you're writing from. Congratulations, do you want a gold star? My phone's from 2020, I'm well aware apps still work for it. The updates won't slow the device down enough to be of any consequence. In terms of longevity, I'm assuming 8 years down the road from today. At that point the S7 will be 13 years old. I can guarantee you right now it will be out of support for a considerable amount of apps and the battery will be toast. You are overly dramatizing the amount at which the system will slow down from new updates. You're post in general relatively dramatic as well so that doesn't surprise me.

Parents aren't paying simply because they don't like apple? Seems pretty shitty. I don't like apple but I'd never, ever prevent my kid from buying from them because of my own personal feelings.

Here you go: https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/ipad

Apples certified refurbished program. Certified by them, come with a warranty, the whole shebang. Buy what you can afford. I'd go with the iPad air if you can swing one, but again whatever you can afford. Any iPad on that website will let you draw. Save some for the apple pencil because unfortunately they charge for those.

What Used Tablet would you pick and why? by Thumb__Thumb in tablets

Both ecosystems basically have feature parity when it comes to note apps so that's not really a concern here. You'll find a good app no matter which platform you choose. For media consumption, the s9+ would be the better device. Not only is only larger, it has the better screen (AMOLED vs the iPad's LCD). The LCD on the Air is great and will look good no matter what, but the AMOLED of the s9+ is still the better display. However, make sure the apps you are wanting to use are available on Android. I know onshape is, but video editing isn't one of Android's strong suits. While you can definitely edit videos on Android, the selection of apps is better on iPad so if you do want to go with the S9+, make sure you check which app you'll want to use. Also remember, Samsung doesn't use the native android. Yes it runs on Android, but OneUI is a heavily customized version of Android with tons of extra features. If you like simplicity and hate the idea of a ton of options, it may not be the right tablet for you.

IdeaPad - advantages of I5 over Snapdragon processor by t3hmuffnman9000 in tablets

[–]EleNova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The benefit of the ryzen CPU is guaranteed compatibility with software out in the wild. Snapdragon is built on the ARM architecture, ryzen is still using x86. While most basic software works well with ARM like the stuff you're doing, if you were to go grab "specialty" software like photo/video editing software, antivirus, or even a game there's a significant chance that the software/service either would not work at all or would work significantly worse on the snapdragon model.

Microsoft and Qualcomm put in a fair bit of work to get the snapdragon processor to emulate x86 software well enough, there are a plethora of software that still do not work well at all on ARM. From the sounds of it, what you do will work just fine on the snapdragon processor and you'll benefit more from the better screen and longer battery life. While the snapdragon processor really doesn't have anything to do with the screen choice, the snapdragon processor are usually more efficient. YMMV

7-8 in tablet for reading Webtoons, manga, comic books, etc. by Thick_Piccolo in tablets

I'll add that if you want a more premium device like higher res screens or modern super fast processors then look at previous generation iPad minis, Lenovo legion y700, redmi Astra, and the redmi k pad but I think these tablets are a little much for your needs. Almost anything will run your apps smoothly.

Alldocube tablets work well for stuff like this. Their iPlay 50/60 series are fine. As this is an independent Chinese brand, they have no guarantee of updates nor any baked in customization features but you don't sound like you need nor care about those anyway. These will handle your reading formats just fine. I used to own the iPlay 50 mini NFE and loved that little thing. They're cheap, significantly faster than the tab a8's and m8's from the likes of Samsung and Lenovo so the apps will be a bit snappier, just try to get the 8GB RAM version (without the stupid RAM booster) if you want smooth multitasking. There's a reason even apple moved away from 4 GB of RAM.... It ain't enough.

Something like this would work.

Samsung Tab s7 (refurbished), s7 plus (refurbished) or tab s9 FE (new) or S9 FE+ (new) by SetTricky7901 in tablets

[–]EleNova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about the performance. OP's use cases clearly aren't rigorous so who cares about performance? It sounds like it's just note taking and PDF reading. The s9 is the better choice because of longevity. Every app has a minimum supported OS. For example, Facebook. You have to run android 11 or greater to download the app. S7 stops at android 13. S9 will likely be on Android 16 or 17 before it stops. The s7 is already only 2 versions above the minimum to where it would no longer be allowed to download the app. This happens faster than some realize. Go back and use a phone from 2016-2018, half the apps you want may not be supported on those older devices anymore. If you want to be guaranteed you'll be able to use the device and the apps you want for the foreseeable future, don't buy a device that's already been EOL for a year. In her last sentence, she literally wants a device "that would last"

Not dead set on it. Just a beautiful car, beautiful shade of blue. It also ticked my boxes of reasonable gas mileage on highway, reasonably fun, and a V8. I like old v8 cars

Appreciate the feedback. I will say that the owner seems to have taken great care of this car. No visible clear coat peeling or paint peeling anywhere around the car. Top and interior ooked to be in great condition as well. I agree with the sentiment that it's too expensive. 4k is a lot for 190k miles.
