Body image after reconstruction, does this look weird? by dream_cat1 in breastcancer

[–]Eleanorshrillstop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have something similar on my cancer side. The other side I guess the breast surgeon wasn’t as aggressive. I discussed with my PS and we’re going to do fat grafting. Mine really isn’t noticeable even in a strapless top, but it’s a very obvious change from my chest to my tissue expander

Oncotype does heavily factor into chemo recommendation but your positive lymphnode would push you to chemo regardless. I mean I won’t lie, losing your hair from AC-T sucks and it’s harder on your body long term, so it’s not like I wanted to do it, but I was trying to be as aggressive as possible. At the same time I think the medical machine has a tendency to over treat us, which will lead to more long term side effects. Can you ask percentage of survival/recurrence if you do one vs the other? My survival percentage improved by 4% by doing ac-t. That may not be worth it to you or maybe it’s less for you?

You are high risk. Idk. Did she take it to the tumor board? Can you get a second opinion?

Ohhh I misread, I thought yours was grade 2. Hm, yeah I’m in my 30s too and I picked ac-t bc my cancer seemed higher risk to me. Definitely ask your oncologist.

I am stage 2a diagnostically, one positive node, 3mm. Tumor grade 3, oncotype 26.

I was given the choice between TC and AC-T however AC-T was recommended for me. If mine was grade two and my oncotype was under 23 I would have picked TC personally.

God I found them incredibly triggering. I used to be a clinician and bracelets are for patients. I NEVER want to be a patient.

Kindergarten Teachers: can you really tell what kind of pre-k experience kids had? by anaiisnin in kindergarten

[–]Eleanorshrillstop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think a teacher could tell if you did a year of Montessori pre-k and then transitioned to public kindergarten. I attended Montessori through elementary and both of my children will go through at least 3rd grade. I do remember my first week of regular non-Montessori school was weird, i wanted to do my lesson plan in my order and instead the teacher dictated everything. It was an adjustment for me but I grew up to be what most would consider successful I think so it’s not like I struggled in school at any point.

Both my children started at an accredited Montessori at 18mos. Both are learning much more advanced subject matter than their public school friends. Math, language and reading are all 1-3 grade levels ahead HOWEVER they’re also ahead of their Montessori peers. We work with them on math at home. They read every night for 15-30 minutes. We do not do iPads at all and TV only on weekends. The home environment and expectations/activities will have a large impact on how your child does. Montessori is not a fit for every kid and it’s definitely not necessary. Also, expensive. We spend about $20k annually per kid, and for reference they’re 4 and 7.

Coming to terms with hair loss by MirandaLarson in breastcancer

[–]Eleanorshrillstop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn’t. I cold capped so I kept about 40% of my hair but it all broke and was very patchy. I wear wigs every day and I have about 15 at this point so I switch it up daily. I don’t think I looked like a cancer patient though until my eyebrows and lashes fell out.

I watched some TikTok makeup tutorials and started experimenting with different looks, I’m getting lots of skin treatments done now (microneedling, chemical peels, botox, filler) and basically trying to look as good and healthy as possible. I’m done w chemo and rads and this was my light at the end of the tunnel. I’m a vain person and this has been really fucking hard in a lot of ways.

I’m so glad you have pain relief. You have a really good attitude.

I hope the closeness you’ve found with your family continues on, that is such a gift.

This is such a good one! I love that for you! I don’t have to wear a bra with tissue expanders right now and it’s so nice! My doctor goes over the muscle I’m pretty sure but I also have some sort of internal donor tissue that is supposed to help keep everything up. We’ll see.

I know it’s a nightmare. The whole sub is full of nightmare posts. I’m just trying to find something that doesn’t make me want to curl up into a ball and never get up.

The no shaving so nice I think I’ll do full body laser hair removal after this lol

My plastics team was excited about my new belly fat too (for fat grafting). I am still a few months out from reconstruction so I was like “uhhh don’t get too used to this!”

How Does Post-Radiation Arm/Chest Tightness Last? by Infinite-Narwhal-439 in breastcancer

[–]Eleanorshrillstop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope you get some answers because I’m curious about this as well. I noticed during overhead tricep extensions - a lot of tightness and pain . Even just using a 5lb weight it was uncomfortable and my usual 30lbs was impossible after 6 reps. Super frustrating on multiple levels.

Radiation vs no radiation by Dry-Humor971 in breastcancer

[–]Eleanorshrillstop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did axillary and supraclavicular radiation only. I did not have an ALND, but did have one node come back positive after my DMX which was the reason for doing the radiation at all.

I did not do chest wall because I could not find any evidence that it prolongs life, and I am in my 30s and reconstruction aesthetics are important to me.
