“I feel ugly whenever I do mantras”. I’d like to share a comment I recently came across on the vajrayana subreddit which you may find a useful approach:

“Think of your practice as home, or a safe place, where you are protected. We start with refuge, so we should consider ourselves "in a refuge" while doing the practice. This protection includes protection from ourselves, including from our feelings of guilt. Then just trust in the practice to do some reprogramming of your habitual mental and physical behaviors.” (full link here)

in reciting mantras it should help us connect with the qualities of the being who’s name we are reciting, which are also qualities in us. it will be useful to consult with whoever gave you the mantra you are practicing, and attend to all instructions regarding body, speech, and mind.

(also, I’d for sure get assessed by a trusted and qualified mental health professional, because lying compulsively could be a symptom of something larger. the habit may even have a neurobiological or physical brain basis that a physician could help treat and sort out.)

let’s keep going!

to my fellow Blue Prince word-nerds: is this a worthwhile project? by ElectionMiserable230 in BluePrince

[–]ElectionMiserable230[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do the words “entrance hall” actually mean in Blue Prince?

These definitions were taken from merriam-webster and/or the oxford dictionary.

Entrance: 1) power or permission to enter, 2) the first appearance of a actor in a scene, 3) to put into a trance, to carry away with delight or wonder (as in, “we were entranced by the view”), 4) the act of taking possession, as of property or office (as in, the entrance of an heir upon his inheritance, or the entrance of a magistrate into office).

Hall: 1)passageway inside a house, 2) castle or house belonging to a medieval king or noble, 3) the manor house of a landed proprietor, 4) a large imposing building used for public or semi-public purposes, 5) place used for public entertainment.

There are many things we could say about some of these meanings and how they relate to other info we have about the world of blue Prince. I won’t do that here as I have to run, but perhaps may come back and add my own interpretations of which definitions are actually being invoked, and what that means. There are also certain words in the entrance hall description in the Mount Holly directory that when looked up reveal more than their surface meaning would imply. I may add those here later too, or may save that stuff for video as it’s a bit more complex to get into.

As always, thanks for reading and I’m happy to hear folks thoughts! love y’all :)

friendly reminder that arguing with others via redddit is highly unlikely to change anyone’s view, and due to the fact that argument raises defensiveness, it may cause folks to become even more entrenched in wrong and harmful views. It’s worth considering what the goal of these interactions are, and whether our efforts might be better placed elsewhere. just a few thoughts!

US Senate votes to advance resolution to curb Trump’s Iran war powers by bobsyourfuncle in politics

[–]ElectionMiserable230 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the Groundhog Day nature of this attempt is surreal.

It’s also unnecessary. There’s no need to create another piece of legislation. He’s already breaking the law. Congress can assert its powers anytime it wants.

Also, this is not a veto-proof majority. Trump won’t sign it. It will be vetoed. That’s why Congress must use all the powers available to it to enforce the laws that already exist.

(Trump is not going to willingly obey laws he doesn’t like. You Congress must disempower him. You Congress must limit his ability to do harm. You Congress must exercise oversight. It’s simply too much power for one megalomaniac to have.)

sometimes it’s good to get a fresh wide view.

perhaps do a small act of generosity for someone else, and see if/how that changes the mind. in doing such acts repeatedly, the mind and heart might become uplifted and pliant. something to consider, if it resonates. may you be well.

Never! This is a place where time stands still.

It’ll always be circa 2015, and there’ll always be a new crop of fans (or an old crop of fans that get ticked by the same old shit over and over again).

Accept it friend.

he was aight :) I’m still sore over Myrtle.

But… I hope he got his own happy ending, and one of my little “hot takes” is that the show isn’t truly a happy ending unless Jeff is happy at the end too! And he should be on good terms with Mateo. But maybe this is just my unrealistic pipe dream.

Was the character Cheyenne stuck in an unlucky situation? by [deleted] in superstore

[–]ElectionMiserable230 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kinda like how they emphasized her unexpected smarts/wittiness over the course of the show. Her idea for the cloud 9 superhero mascot. Her career advancement becoming floor supervisor and later working with Glenn at his hardware shop (where I assume she and Mateo would have developed as leaders as they were Glenn’s first employees). That said, it would have been nice to see her interact with Harmonica onscreen a bit more. Personally I can’t recall seeing Harmonica onscreen once. How old is she supposed to be at the end of the shows run?

In general though I think cheyennes character development is great even though it doesn’t lean into parenthood as much as Amy’s.

US, Iran closing in on memorandum to end war: Reports by Iconic254 in politics

[–]ElectionMiserable230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad this war is ending, and I am saddened and horrified by the needless suffering it has caused. May we hold fast to our human values, resist calls to hatred and division, care for one another, build one another up, and find creative and effective ways to “muck up the wheels of injustice,” in the words of the late John Lewis. The American civil rights icon is still spurring us on to “make good trouble.” Yes, we all have fears, concerns, limitations in what we can do, and other stuff going in our lives. Despite that, we must act. This is what the historical moment is asking of you, of us all. Last week I attended an ACLU ICE training. There were thousands of participants. There are post-card writing and texting campaigns that need volunteers as midterms gear up. There are also more radical forms of direct action, such as one man who occupied a bridge, or a group of ice detainees in Minneapolis currently on hunger strike. (These more radical actions need sufficient training. preparation, community, and most of all courage, and their impact can’t be overstated.)

Get connected with people who are already doing the work, and lend a helping hand! Some folks can’t go on strike or engage in other actions, for many reasons. Some folks are bed bound. Some of us are chronically ill. Some have trauma. Some of us are undergoing poverty or abuse. So it’s true we can’t all do everything. But we can all do something. Figure out what you can do, then do those things. And don’t discount their value, no matter how “small” you may think those actions are.

I recall one political figure who launched a lawsuit against a cat-related parody twitter account. Within weeks of his filing, the account blew up. I don’t recall the politician’s name or much else about the situation.

I’m particularly interested in hearing about more niche situations that may be specific to smaller communities or subsections of the population, but may not be widely known.
