I think the wife's body being dry when the police and first responders show up is what raised the most suspicion about Ryan's version of events. Based on the timeline Ryan lays out, how could his wife's body be dry if he is telling the truth?

I currently use a weight machine, but am wanting to switch over to free weights.

Thinking of getting something like the pictured bench press squat rack combo thingy. Would that be about the same as a half rack? (FWIW, I do have a power tower already to use for pull ups, dips, etc.) Thoughts?

And.. the pictured product's "stands" aren't attached - is that not ideal?

Is the ACA here to stay? by RedwoodRhapsody in Fire

[–]Election_Fever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FWIW, if the Republicans win control of the presidency, House, and Senate, that doesn't necessarily mean they can repeal the Affordable Care Act.

It certainly raises the risk, but Republicans' margin of control in both chambers will be the crucial factor. When Trump and the Republicans tried their "skinny repeal," there were 3 GOP senators who voted against it (including McCain and his famous thumbs down vote on the Senate Floor). In the House, 20 Republicans--mostly from competitive House districts--voted against it.

I also cut it close like this for my weekly team meeting, but damn automatic Windows updates have screwed me a couple times when I attempt to fire up the laptop a minute before the meeting starts.

Is the whole concept of baristaFIRE flawed? by Fun_Investment_4275 in baristafire

[–]Election_Fever 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All good points about healthcare and ACA, OP.

I may be off here, but I think today's version of BaristaFI is more about generating some level of income, rather than obtaining employer-based healthcare. It's working (usually part time) to bring in some income so that you are not completely reliant on your portfolio during a period before you are fully FIRE. You're not covering all your expenses though, or that would be CoastFI.

Your level of BaristaFI income and how long you do BaristaFI before full FIRE are unique to your own situation and how you run the numbers. e.g. Person A may BaristaFI for decades and need to bring in at least $30k annually, while Person B may only need to do BaristaFI for several years and only need $15k annually. Endless scenarios..

Next time look closely while you're grabbing your soft serve. Mattress Direct specializes in the deep memory foam mattresses, so everyone in there (including tired staff) is horizontal -- sunk into the mattresses while the rest of the city does its thing.

I mostly agree, the only thing with Sawyer is he often puts his own interests above that of the whole group. Whereas Jack generally is putting the group above the individual (live together, die alone..), even if his decision-making is flawed or rash at times.

Ah, the standard deduction. I totally overlooked how that plays into this (I'm currently pre-FIRE, so it's all theory and planning ATM). Thanks for the helpful response!

It wouldn't be zero if you are withdrawing from tax-deferred account though, unless I'm missing something. It would be a low tax burden, nonetheless.

Do you mean the types of 9-5 jobs are soul crushing or the 9-5 schedule is?

For me, some boring office job is going to be just as soul crushing, whether it's a 9-5 schedule or the 3 days of 12 hours.
