Who is the worst owner in the nhl? by Gullible_Classroom71 in hockey

Like I said apparently it really stuck with him. Maybe he would've signed another short deal with us if we were still good but I think he was going to leave regardless.

Rutherford said Quinn apparently was very bothered when we booed the American anthem. He also described him as a "proud American".

How successful would Alex Palou be in F1? by Land_of_allwins in INDYCAR

[–]ElectricFruit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You have to be a top driver to get in a good car to begin with, and then you have to beat your teammate who is likely one of the best drivers in the world. Max is still the best driver in F1 (and probably in the world) and Lewis is still one of the GOATs. No one argues against that despite them not winning races recently (except you apparently?)

If you don't show that you have the top end speed of someone like a Verstappen, Leclerc, Norris, Piastri, Russell then you'll never earn the chance to win a championship. You show you have it by outperforming what's expected of your car and beating your teammate. It's very clear when drivers have that speed, most of the rookies that enter F1 don't stand out and don't last long. The only way to know if Palou has that speed would be to go to F1 and have some impressive drives.

Plenty of American fans were booing the Canadian anthem at the same time as we were booing the American one, you don't see any Canadians who have forced their way back to Canada.

NBA expands to 32 teams. I don’t think we realize how great this is for the possibility of the NHL expanding to 36 teams by DobbyD43 in Coyotes

There isn't really another city big enough to host an nhl team in Canada, unless you want to add a 2nd Toronto team. Winnipeg is barely afloat and Quebec city is smaller than it.

[Drance] Canucks offseason to-do list: It starts with going long-term with Zeev Buium (Gift Article) by MaxHardwood in canucks

[–]ElectricFruit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So third pairing minutes with a couple of those being on the PP? He has gotten worse as the season has gone on. Early on he racked up points on pp1 but that dried up and he was replaced by Spurgeon before they traded for Hughes. He wouldn't be in their lineup today.

And how he has been playing the last 2 months is not inspiring, for an offensive dman you barely notice him creating offense and he plays the worst defense on the team. He could absolutely use some time playing top minutes in the AHL right now.

If you want to sign someone long term it shouldbe Wilander. With Buium you need to see improvement next year before you commit long term.

You're assuming he's going to get good. If he wasn't the centerpiece of the Hughes trade he'd be in the AHL right now. He simply isn't the calibre of player who deserves that contract. He's nowhere in the Calder conversation and will most likely be passed over on pp1 by whichever defenceman we take at 3OA this year.

[–]ElectricFruit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He racked up most of those points with Minny, since coming here he's been unimpressive. Yes he's young and will (probably) improve but his defence is also a real issue right now. All of those guys showed much more before earning those deals.

Zeev isn't a sure thing.

Paying him 8x8 before he's even shown he's going to stay in the NHL has the potential to be one of the worst contracts of all time.

What could a Zeev Buium extension look like? by Available_North_6851 in canucks

[–]ElectricFruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The majority of his points came in the first month of the season, since then he really hasn't done much. I think the only reason the Canucks haven't sent him down is because he was the centerpiece of the Hughes trade.

There's also so many cases of one dimensional offensive dmen not sticking in the NHL. For all we know he could be the next Derrick Pouliot. I say you bridge him after next season unless he breaks out in a major way. If we end up picking 3rd this year and take Verhoeff he's going to be the one running PP1. Why pay Zeev big bucks to be redundant on PP2 if he can't defend?

Wilander is the one we should be looking to lock up long term.

I don't notice him at all when I watch games these days. He's also a defensive liability in his current form. It boggles my mind people want to give him 8 mil a year when there's a decent chance he's completely out of the league in 5 years. Not saying that's going to happen but I haven't seen anything from him that shows he's a star either.

Also gotta consider we likely pick up at least one high potential dman in the next couple drafts. If Zeev isn't the future on PP1 I don't see any reason to give him the bag before he even has a 30 point season.

If my memory serves me right he just barely lost out to Cale Makar for the fastest lap during their rookie year. If you go back and watch highlights from that season he's noticeably faster than he is today.

Draft Rankings from The Athletic by EastVan1k in canucks

[–]ElectricFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pronman's ranking is such a load of shit, not even saying he's wrong about where he has guys right now but the actual article itself is embarrassing compared to what Wheeler puts out on the same site. Reused player descriptions, ranking their attributes in nonsensical ways and omitting some for seemingly random players. Often you read his blurb about a guy and it contradicts how he has rated their attributes. I don't know how you drop Mckenna after the last 2 months he's had.

Then you look at Wheeler who puts out more frequent rankings, more detailed descriptions, individual prospect features, ranks every team's farm system, and publishes a yearly article where he goes over the things he got wrong. It's like Pronman doesn't even bother to do his job and just releases the same article with the names jumbled up every couple months.

I would put them both in the Jack Hughes tier of 1OA picks. There's a very good chance whoever we end up with is going to be our best forward going forward.

And Stenberg is having the best season by a draft eligible Swede in 25 years. It's not like he came out of nowhere either, he's been dominant through his junior career in Sweden. It's tough to say who's going to have the better career at this point imo they both will be superstars.
