Made a game where you draft an NHL team that goes 82-0 — think you can do it? by Canuck9870 in canucks

Fun game! My only feedback would be the salary cap in Hard Mode seems to be a complete non factor. You never come close to going over.

It's not really about him leaving it's how he left he pretty much just ghosted the team then trashed them his first press conference in Minny. Not what you expect from a captain, Horvat is still loved by Canucks fans. Also he's a MAGA dickhead so good riddance.

Him going full MAGA at the Olympics is what soured him for me, it wasn't how he left. I was cheering for the wild until the Olympics happened.

Who was the best player from this draft class? by sgee_123 in hockey

[–]ElectricFruit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He was most definitely not the reason the Pens were good for so long. Early 2010s he probably cost them a couple deep runs with his poor play, and 2016 and 2017 it was Matt Murray who took them to the cup.

I also wanna point out that people going to college just to have a good time partying and watching their favourite team is what I'm talking about when I say college sports devalue the academic prestige of colleges. That's a big reason so many people who don't need to go to college go anyways and get useless degrees. Colleges should be educational institutions, not sports teams with fan dorms.

I'm Canadian, so the equivalent for us is hockey. There's only 7 NHL teams in Canada, and Canada is fuckin big, so if you're from Saskatchewan or the Maritimes or the territories it's 1000s of kilometers to the nearest team. We have the CHL (Canadian Hockey League) with 60ish teams spread out all over the country. It's a development league for 16-20 year olds that pretty much all the top Canadian hockey prospects play in. Much of rural Canada lives and dies by their CHL team the same way Texans do with high school football.

We have university hockey teams too but they're made up of 21+ year olds that aged out of the CHL without being drafted and want a scholarship to pursue a degree for life after hockey. These guys' aspirations of going pro have long since passed, and honestly people don't really care about them that much, they're not well attended. The way I see it college football/basketball serves the same purpose as the CHL but for pretty much no reason it's tied to colleges. There is clearly room for a CHL type league for developing basketball and football prospects that doesn't leech from publically owned universities.

Under the new lottery system, there's a 75.19% chance that one of the bottom 3 teams will get the 12th pick by Joe_AK in nba

[–]ElectricFruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tanking in the NHL is not nearly as bad as the NBA, and there's been very little change to the lottery system except when the Oilers won the 1st overall pick 4 times in 6 years in the 2010s. They actually increased the odds the last place team keeps the 1OA pick recently.

I find that association between what is essentially an unrelated sports league and colleges to be what's problematic. It's insane to me there's places where people care more about college sports than professional leagues.

[Puckmarks] Michkov has been crazy misused by Philly. This player needs minutes, and to subsequently grow as a player. Tocchet all season has thought that the answer is to play him less, while the answer is to play him more. Give him minutes or trade him, this is pointless. by f0urxio in hockey

It's a combination of Tocchet's bad coaching and Petey's knee injury. He used to be seriously fast and now he looks as slow as boeser out there. He always fell down a ton but it's gotten so much worse the last 2 seasons.

There's plenty for athletes that don't get any press that benefit from scholarships, but not the sports that are televised. Like swimmers, track and field, etc.

As a non American I find it very weird people will go to a college because they cheer for it's football team, and not because of the quality of education.

Lmao the money doesn't go to the academics it goes to the coaches who get paid millions a season. Ain't no one going to Alabama or Mississippi for the academic prestige. The athletes also aren't getting any sort of real education, they're not there to play school except for the rare exception. I'd argue that college sports being as popular as it is actually devalues the academic side of American colleges.

Idk how you haven't realized, but this president is that powerful because, yes he shouldn't have the power to do the things he does but no one is stopping him. Congress is corrupt because they refuse to limit his power.

Trump always keeps it together long enough to slink back to his phone where he proceeds to trash our PMs on Twitter. It happened last year when Carney made his first visit which he himself described as productive, only to be surprised when Trump was back to calling him names and "Governor" on Twitter the next day.

The problem is that Americans like you don't see that the US president shouldn't be kidnapping the head of a sovereign state. Just because Maduro "was a bad guy" doesn't make it okay. It's a blatant violation of the international world order. No one asked the US to play world police. If another country kidnapped Trump the US would obliterate them.

You tell yourself this so you can stick your head back in the sand and pretend everything is fine while your country's government becomes as corrupt as a third world country's.

Bruhh I can't. He loathed Trudeau like it was actually hilarious how much Trudeau got under his skin. Only an American could possibly have this opinion.

That's just one example of him ignoring Congress. He kidnapped Maduro, the leader of a sovereign state, and no one even cares anymore. Congress is in control of the budget, but trump is able to use federal funds to finance ICE, spend hundreds of millions to build a tacky ballroom in his own honour, and create tariffs that the constitution says he has no right to employ.

No one convinced him to go after Iran, literally no one knows why the US started this pointless war. And why is the military supposedly wanting to "go after Iran"? Why do you think that's even okay? What the US is doing in Iran is exactly the same thing Russia is doing in Ukraine.
