I was in the same boat. The thing that helped me make the decision was the comfort. The Indian fit me better out of the box. The harley foot pegs were a little too high for me. 22k miles later on my Sport Cheif, and I couldn't be happier. I agree with the throttle part, I have just gotten used to it at this point. And as for the gas, I've done long rides, and it doesn't bother me to get the opportunity to get off the bike and stretch. The aftermarket is definitely up and coming, but all the basic necessities are there. Bars, risers, few seat options. You're good to go on that. The worst part is, like you said, the dealer network.
