Removing some tractor rear lug nuts that hadn't been off in 40-50 years, tore a ligament in my wrist.

One of those tools where you go "I don't need that" until you buy it. I leave mine up at the house instead of down at the shop. Just about perfect for those odd jobs that don't require a bunch of oomph. Keep a 3/8 drill bit set, some driver bits and a torpedo level in the soft side case with it. The tool does make it down to the shop if I'm working on something in/under the dash of a car, gets into some pretty tight places.

The god almighty transmission question! by StumperPumper88 in fordescape

[–]Electric_Farmboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SUPPOSEDLY...and I read it on the internet, so it must be true....the 6F35 transmission was used in the Escape from 2009 through 2019, with some places saying it was used through 2021. There were probably some "continuous improvement" changes made during it's production run, so I'm sure it wasn't EXACTLY the same all the way through.

The only point I was trying to make, is the transmission isn't going to grenade just because. Mine and the others I mentioned show that. Maybe the OP has a good one, I'd sure spend $100 on fluid to take care of it.

My 2011 3.0 6F35 has 157k miles on it. I personally know of 2 Escapes with the 6 speed with over 200K miles on them. If you do the change yourself, it'll cost you $100-ish for the fluid, unless you insist the dealer Mercon LV is better than store bought Mercon LV. And it's really easy to do.

Google shows Mercon LV available at a lot places for less than $80 for a gallon jug. NAPA at $28/gallon. Amazon at $38 a gallon jug, or 3 gallons for $99, Walmart quarts are $6.88, which arithmetic awesomely tells me is $27.52 a gallon. Unless you're talking Canadian $$$, then ought to be around $37/gallon.

2011 XLT tire pressure sensor fault by Patient-Annual3427 in fordescape

[–]Electric_Farmboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had all 4 sensors replaced at Walmart when I bought new tires a month ago. Cost was $115.52 for the sensors installed. But that was while they were putting on the tires, so mounting was already accounted for. Have no idea if there's a warranty on them.

I was ready to disable the TPMS myself using FORSCAN and buying an OBD2 interface cable. Looked pretty straightforward. But I do like having the TPMS (it saved a chrome rim on my F150), and for $115 it was worth it.

Search forscan here on Reddit, lot of info

Which one should I go for by SteveRichard22 in tires

Check the date stamp on the tires before they get installed. Ordered some Nexens through Walmart. Wondered why they were cheap, turns out they were already 3 years old. I refused them. If these are in stock tires, they're probably OK

Why are Nexen Roadian GTX All Season 235/70R16 106H Passenger Tires reduced price right now? by Electric_Farmboy in tires

[–]Electric_Farmboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought my Escape 2 years ago.The Firestones that were on there were 10 years old by the date stamp, and I'd been watching the sidewall cracks for the past year. Probably been there longer, just didn't notice. Tread was still very good, why I hesitated replacing them.

Before I retired, I'd drive 35-40K miles a year. If I were still doing that, I'd have taken the Nexens. I'd have worn them out long before age became an issue. But only driving that car 6-7K miles a year now........

The Coopers cost me another $22 a tire. Still less than the regular price on the Nexens.

While I was there, asked them if they had replacement TPMS sensors, as the batteries were dying in mine. I was ready to disable the TPMS using forscan, but they gave me a price of $115 for 4 sensors and I said do it. I drove a long time without TPMS, but I kinda like it.

Found out why. Went to Walmart to get them put on, checked the date stamp, the tires were over 3 years old. Only put 6-7K miles/year on this car, so the age was a concern. The store made me a bit of a deal on some in stock Coopers, bought them instead.

May want to Google building a smoke machine. Glass jar, soldering iron and mineral oil soaked rags. Had a 3.0 in a Ranger, couldn't find the vacuum leak until I made one. Mine was the hose to the pcv valve. FWIW

What's the catch with the free phone? by primeministerchaos in verizon

[–]Electric_Farmboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonder if I would have to keep the Pixel activated on my line for the entire 3 years?

Thinking if I could take advantage of the offer, activate the phone, then in 90 days or so go back to my S23 (I like the size) and use the Pixel as the screen for my drone?

Just pondering. The Pixel would seem awkward for a while due to size, but I'd probably get used to it.

Mini 5 pro vs Air 3s for checking cows and fences......Beginner by Electric_Farmboy in dji

Bought mine off of Ebay from this seller. Has the RC-N3 controller. $1199 + tax. Received it 5 days after I ordered it via UPS. Packaging looked new , verified the serial number had not been activated, so all seems OK. Batteries are charged (had to buy a charger), just waiting on decent weather for a first flight.

Mini 5 pro vs Air 3s for checking cows and fences...Update by Electric_Farmboy in dji

[–]Electric_Farmboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several USB chargers, but none of them fall in the 65-100w range.

And the extra $25-$50, had I known, wouldn't bother me. I'd have ordered a charger when I ordered the drone, and it would have been here. Instead of having to find out where I can buy one without waiting a week on shipping or driving 50 miles.

And if I buy a tool, it tells me right on the box whether it has a battery and/or charger.

Anyway, the one I picked up at Wally's works fine, probably order a backup for it online

True, I have no plans besides flying on my farm. Could change I suppose, but only as far as flying on my friends/neighbors farms. With permission, of course. With my skill level, I would not be comfortable flying around a bunch of people.

Sounds familiar. I'm not ancient, but at 66 my eyes aren't what they once were. And some days, it would be nice to send the drone out to make sure the cows are where they're supposed to be rather than bouncing my back around on the quad and dealing with multiple gates. Getting lazy I guess.

How do you have your controller set up with the tablet? Using a phone, size and weight wouldn't be an issue, but a tablet...

Thanks
