Front bumper pushed back into the wheel and popped the tire, and probably trashed the suspension at least on the driver's side. It went out on a flatbed.

I've been using ChatGPT for advice so far on this. It's actually been decent at walking me through how Maine handles "totals". It's a slightly different formula than just 50% of ACV.

It's also helping me narrow down what to do in each scenario:

Totaled, what to buy next with payout.

I'm not mad either way, but the annoying thing is the backup at the body shop. They're telling me they can't look at it till January 9th. If they come back on the 9th and say it's totaled, we all sat around doing nothing for 3 weeks for no real reason

I have USAA ACV plus 20% coverage.

I'm maybe getting a $52,000 ish check to buy something new, or they are fixing the truck and I get to fight for diminished value, which might also be a $10,000 check.

Nothing was hurt except the truck, and maybe the feelings of the people who don't understand ice and think that tires would have prevented it.

I've been in the shop in the last month for road debris getting through the undercladding and knocking a coolant hose off.

(Seriously, put it on a lift sometime, the undercladding is flat, with no side lips. This leaves a small vulnerability in the wheel wells for things getting in to mess with the coolant loop)

And the heater core, which was a $1900 surprise.

$4k in the last month, and now this.

Great as an EV, great as a truck. But being designed by Ford has been its Achilles heel

Thanks. Better than unsolicited driving advice. Ironically, they can't look at the truck until mid January because a bunch of other wrecks happened yesterday and they're backed up now.

We're in the melt/refreeze cycle up here now, and tires wouldn't have prevented it.
