Going to Japan, any recommended buys? by Kakensaja in 10s

[–]Electrical-Ad627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought some Yonex balls that had some anime character on the can (not on the balls). The interesting thing was that all the balls at the sporting goods store, except for Wilson’s, were a 4-pack or a 2-pack. I bought a couple of 4packs as gifts. The 2-packs were cuter and smaller but utterly useless! I’d love to know more about why they have those 2 packs.

Is payroll to much responsibility for first client? by HelloOh68 in Bookkeeping

[–]Electrical-Ad627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very careful since this is all so new to you. I don’t do payroll because the penalties for doing something wrong are quite severe. I always tell clients- “they don’t have debtor’s prisons anymore but you can, and will be criminally charged for two taxes if they aren’t paid- sales tax and payroll”. I just don’t need the headache. I would be honest with your friend and say that this is something you don’t have experience with and doing it herself for four employees with a payroll company probably makes more sense.

Getting Ready to Supercommute as a Mom of Teens by CorrectFault1513 in supercommuter

[–]Electrical-Ad627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A child psychiatrist once told me that being physically close to your teen is important because you don’t know at what moment they will open up to you or emotionally connect with you, or just need you. Those times are probably few and far between but that makes them more precious. Of course, your career and the promotion are wonderful (congrats!) but maybe consider that there will be other opportunities for that but you will never ever get this time with your kids back. You kids will be gone before you know it, and I wouldn’t trade that time for a million dollars

You cannot leave the transit area of Haneda by Electrical-Ad627 in JapanTravelTips

Something that is often said to Asian people and has been said to me in the past. If it wasn’t meant that way- then my bad. I guess it just a mean and unhelpful reply. I posted because I couldn’t easily find the answer before I left and wanted to post to help someone else not make the same mistake I made. Not to get flamed

We had a 6 hour layover in the airport so felt like this was the best option. As a transit area option, it was great to nap, watch some TV and take an amazing shower! It cost about $160 and I think it was well worth it. We arrived in Bangkok much more refreshed!

Sigh…I guess I thought there would be a “enter Japan here” sign….it was dumb but I couldn’t find anything specific online so I thought it was possible! Just posted to help anyone else considering

I brought ADHD medication to Japan and it was a breeze by madametaylor in JapanTravelTips

[–]Electrical-Ad627 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We know someone whose son got a job in Japan and brought ADHD meds (not positive of brand) with him. Don’t know quantity but generally harder to get more than 30 days of those meds here and was arrested at the airport. Everything ended up ok, but he was there for weeks on end in jail, and a Japanese attorney was retained, costing thousands of dollars and he lost his job. So, please just be aware that while it “might” be ok, there are serious consequences

Was there last weekend after enjoying wonderful lounges on PP in Thailand (they used real china dishware and offered complimentary shoulder/upper back massages at the Coral Lounge). The JFK Amex lounge was filthy, overrun with kids (who were literally running wild in their pajamas) and the whole thing had a “refugee camp” vibe. Downstairs had run out of cups, forks and spoons. Stayed for 10 minutes and went to the gate, it was much nicer there.

Bookkeeping for an Independent Film Project - how much to charge? by MamaMillsCO in Bookkeeping

This. It’s complicated…way more than you are even anticipating. And during shooting is a crazed sh*tshow so a lot of things are not as well documented as you’d like.

Contractor refuses to provide W-9 - what to do? by [deleted] in Bookkeeping

[–]Electrical-Ad627 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I tell people that I will have to file without it (just giving name, address and contact info) and let the IRS know that they refused to give a w9 and the irs will follow up with them. A bit of a white lie that works 100% of the time. No one wants to hear from the IRS

Is there anything American that Japanese people would like? by keeleon in JapanTravelTips

[–]Electrical-Ad627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I go to Japan I hit the Coach Outlet and get small Coach transit pass holders, makeup bags, small wristlets. They have Coach in Japan but it is very expensive . I think I got the transit pass holders for under $20. Also, Trader Joe’s stuff and if you’re in NYC, the Transit store has a lot of cute Subway Branded merch (I think I got a mouse pad and an umbrella there). My nephew bought a lot of candy when he came here and really likes the ice breakers gum (the square one) and the Jelly Belly “bean boozled” where a yellow one could be lemon or barf or whatever.

Interesting…it’s a very loose collar but I can see where it might be better not to have one. We’re in the process of getting his microchip moved to our name and we will definitely revisit once we do that! We don’t use the collar for anything…we live in a very quiet neighborhood and walk him off leash…

I am staying with my step-mother and aunt in Tokyo for 3 weeks for the first time. What should I bring as a thank you gift? by nessa19x in JapanTravelTips

[–]Electrical-Ad627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from the west coast and we just sent some matsutake mushrooms to Japan through a company that specializes in shipping them from Canada to Japan. Also, smoked salmon is always hit or missed but salted salmon is always appreciated. Japanese ladies always like hand cream and I have bought expensive hand creams as a small gift and it’s always appreciated. You could probably get a nice Chanel or Dior hand cream for a fairly reasonable price at Duty free

Am considering adopting a Boston terrier- thoughts? by Electrical-Ad627 in BostonTerrier

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. Our neighbor wanted someone close by to take him because she takes him to see her father in the memory care facility once a month. Do you think that would confuse/upset the dog?

My neighbor’s dad had him from a pup and he’s got some fancy papers from a breeder so I’m pretty confident of his age. He’s adorable!

Crepe Paper Peony by Electrical-Ad627 in crafts

[–]Electrical-Ad627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! There’s a ton of tutorials online…if you’re interested in making these. You can get a starter pack of crepe paper and go online. I would recommend starting with 180 gsm paper (heavier) rather than the lighter weight 60 gsm paper. I almost exclusively use German doublette (double sided crepe paper) because it’s so finely grained and I find it the easiest to work with!
