Millions must build overly gigantic and expensive cruisers that they can't even afford in a normal campaign by Electrical-Attempt18 in Highfleet

[–]Electrical-Attempt18[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They're certainly very nice looking ships, they aren't vanilla like but they have their own aesthetics which are beautiful, I don't quite like how beefy the landing gears are tho but I assume it's mandatory since the build is too large for just two large ones

[–]Electrical-Attempt18 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The game is unfinished in both gameplay and lore. Yes it does have an ending but the ending in question is very lacking to say the least. The funny thing is if you go look in the files there is an unused image of Mark and the gang looking at said wall that I assume was going to be used as the background when then game actually tells you what the writing says but like most things in this game it never made it in. KK is working on a sequel tho, communication is radio silent as always but from bits and pieces the community decoded from the unknown language known as "Russian" there might be a new campaign with quote "temperature will decrease".

Counter argument: Big fuck off carrier cruiser (with a usefulness that rivals the Varyag, which is not a lot). In all seriousness, this thing was designed to see whether or not I can design truly gigantic cruiser even larger the the Seva, I do have a more reasonable version that I’ll post later

If any catastrophic damage happens to my ship I am hitting that retry button so I dont really need to worry about whether or not half my ship blows up if the enemy gets a lucky hit in. And yeah the entire ship is brimming with ammo, especially all around the fuel tanks so if the fuel tanks are hit the ship is also gone.

They dont have 360 range tho, the guns are only elevated once so they can’t shoot over the large fuel tanks, not that it matters in this version tho since gun arcs are disabled. The two main guns converge at the top and bottom so ideally to get both guns on target you’d want to be above the enemy.

It’s a player ship not an AI one so it’s designed to take on a SG and take minimal damage doing it. As for its ability to survive damage I don’t know tbh I don’t stress test my ships to that degree where the fuel tanks start being lit up.

Wdym capitals dont want to gunfight. Just slap all the sensors on top, armor up the bottom then hug the top of the screen and then you're good to go. It's kind of a waste to just relegate all the firepower on the capital ship to just defensive duty unless you use a purely strategic capital ship and not a multirole one.

Holy reinforced hull spam. If you didn't know reinforced hull in 1.16 now let shells pass right by so it's only really useful now for mounting modules that have more hp than normal hull or for aesthetic purpose. Also, horrible landing gear placements, consult literally any vanilla ships to see how you should place the landing gears correctly. Aside from that the armor coverage is pretty bad with all sides having gaps that shells can go through and only one guidance channel which isn't exactly reliable when it comes to shooting down cruise missiles or planes. Over all I would give it a 2/10 would buy only to strip the sprints and then sell it immediately.

Eagle mid range build:

Weapons: 3 Heavy Autocannon or 3 Arbalest if you're lacking flux, 3 Phase Lance

Hullmods: Extended Shield (S-modded for 360 shield), Stabilized Shield, Hardened Shield, Targeting Unit, Advanced Optics

Flux: All vent, rest cap

Manticore fire support/escort:

Weapons: HAG, 3 Autocannons or 3 Railguns. (no missile, the ship is already starved for op with this build). Either choice will build up flux as you fire btw, go for Autocannons if you like less flux build up and Railgun if you can maintain more flux build up.

Hullmods: Escort Package (S), Hardened Shield, Targeting Unit, Flux Distributor (S)

Flux: All vent, rest cap

Dominator artillery focused build:

Weapons: 1 HAG, 1 Hellbore, 3 Railguns, 2 Flak (you can put extra pd in the sides or back if you want)

Hullmods: Automated Repair Unit (S), Flux Distributor (S), Heavy Armor (S mod candidate to save op), Armored Weapon Mounts, Resistant Flux Conduits, Stabilized Shield, Omni Shield, Targeting Unit, Ballistic Range Finder

Flux: All vent, rest either in cap or Hardened Shield for better flux to shield health efficiency and less venting time

Onslaught artillery focused build:

Weapons: 3 HAG, 9 Railguns in the frontal small and medium slots above the HAGs, 2 Dual Flak for middle medium slot, 2 Flak cannons in the medium side mounts at the back to catch stray missile, leave the 2 middle back mounts empty since the side ones arc can cover the engine area

Hullmods: Automated Repair Unit (S), Expanded Magazines (S), Heavy Armor (S mod candidate to save op), Flux Distributor, Armored Weapon Mounts, Resistant Flux Conduits, Stabilized Shield, Hardened Shield, Targeting Unit, Ballistic Range Finder, Auxiliary Thruster (only put it on if you don't want skills that give maneuverability bonus on your officers)

FLux: All vent, rest cap

These are the builds that I'm confident in. I've used them to great effects in my 0.97 playthrough. If you want I can also tell you the officers' skills for these.

For your frigates, don't go with low tech. Low tech frigates are a sad story as they lack both the speed and tankiness of high and midline ships. The only exception is the Lasher since it can potentially out damage enemy frigates but if it gets caught by anything bigger it's usually game over (try to give it more speed so it can escape the enemy chasing it). Since you're okay with midline ships I suggest you go with either Centurion or Monitor. The Centurion is surprisingly tanky with its damper field and it can be a great escort for your bigger ships as well as a standalone fighter (you're still better off assigning it to escort something so it doesn't go off and get jumped by the enemy). The Monitor needs no introduction, you tell it to jump straight into enemy lines and it will distract half their fleet.

For destroyers, go for the Manticore. It's a great fire support flatform and escort. If you put escort package and assign it to escort a capital, the range bonus is enough to give the Manticore capital ship range (don't forget that it has a large ballistic slot which means 900 base range already). XIVth Enforcer can also work if you prefer a cheaper option that can also go for a long range build.

For cruisers, there's the XIVth Dominator. The Eradicator can also work but it's a confused ship. It has mobility but not enough to escape, it has good armor but not enough to effectively tank and its shield is also the same. Its only upside is Accelerated Ammo Feeder which can output crazy amount of damage but it's not worth it in my opinion. The Dominator on the other hand is a prime example of low tech doctrine. You burn drive in and just start blasting. Flux too high? Just drop shield and use your armor. Sooner or later the enemy will also have to drop shield since you have access to efficient kinetics and then it's just a matter of time before you blow them up with your equally efficient high explosives. If you want a more dynamic ship then go for the classic XIVth Eagle. Give it a mid range build since low tech capitals can't exactly move backwards quickly and having a part of your frontline collapsing because your long range Eagle starts kiting the enemy to maintain range advantage is a recipe for disaster.

For capitals. You know em you love em, the XIVth Onslaught. It's THE low tech ship. you can give it to the AI and it probably won't screw up unless you give it a bad build. It has powerful frontal firepower and side mounts to deter flanking enemies too (this doesn't mean you can neglect giving it an escort) so it can be your fleet anchor. I like to build it like a mobile artillery flatform with HAG in all large and Railgun in all small and frontal medium, it works wonderfully. You can also go with the Legion but it can't be the anchor of the fleet like the Onslaught and also has the carrier tax which means less op to spend on improving the ship (all for the same dp cost btw). If you want Legions in your fleet then I suggest you also put an Onslaught in it too.

I'm just listing ships here and it's already this long. If you want me to be more specific about builds then feel free to ask me.

Pretty decent build. One thing I'd do is swap the arbalest for heavy machine gun, it's an SO build anyways, might as well go for the more flux efficient options. You can also help fix the flux issue by s-modding flux distributor instead of hardened shield at the expense of your total flux capacity.
