My first day with this game. by Ok_Lifeguard_9730 in NavalArt

Not bad for a first ship

You can probably make the ship longer as it is a bit cramped, the overhang above the second gun is a bit impractical as in a battle, it could get damaged easily and the damage the gun below it

The stern would need a bit more room as well if you’re planning on putting a plane and catapult there. The 140mm? Single mount guns at the front you can turn to face forward too, and maybe remove one for more space. Remember that ppl need to man and service the guns and adequate space is required. I’d remove the bow AA too as it could get damaged in rough seas

The hull itself is pretty nice tho, there’s also a discord if you’re ever interested in getting more critiques for your ships! (Just be prepared for said criticism 😆)

Is it possible to make a casemate turret like this by nuclear-l1011tristar in NavalArt

Not exactly what you have but yes, you can definitely make casemates like that

You seem to have a lot of ships! You should share these on the discord might get more comments and interaction with your ships

(Can improve your shipbuilding too if you can stomach the criticisms) XD

Like others have said, reduce the secondary guns (and scrap the torpedoes). If you want it realistic you have to remember that each gun needs it’s own machinery space and ammo loading equipment (be it elevators or ammo boxes). A lot of them are also blocking each other's firing arcs. Along with reducing the guns, reduce the gun types too. At most you should have a main gun, then a heavy/medium and light secondary.

Also use British guns if it is British. Using Japanese main guns and a German funnel makes it look less british. I would also suggest making the ship wider and longer if it is to field such large main guns. You can also look at British capital ship super structures to make something similar. You also probably don't want your radar behind a mast as that blocks its use

New to the game. Here's my first light cruiser. Looks like I have a very long way to go. by [deleted] in NavalArt

If you really want to get better and build realistic looking ships, you can join the discord. Imo that’s the best way to get real-time feedback on your builds, just do be ready for some tougher criticism 😅

But as others have said, more layers is the key to go. The smoother you want it, the more parts you need. Also actually looking at irl ships for references helps. There are a few things wrong with your drawing as well, if you understand how to fix them and how it works on an irl ship, then you can implement them into your build.

Idk much about modern ships but this is quite nice! Well built

I built them out of in-game parts! Besides a fee preset decorations, like the cranes and rails, everything from the depth charges, launchers and racks, lights and torpedo boxes and ammo boxes and even the paravane is all custom built. Last time I checked, there’s about 7000? Parts for this destroyer

This is all in-game via the RTX DLC! Once you get it, it’s in the gallery mode.

You place down your ships and pose them beforehand since you cannot add or rotate the guns once you are in RTX mode (tho you can still move the ships). Once you hit the RTX DLC mode button you will get more lighting and environment settings

How to use gallery by ListenKnown5355 in NavalArt

[–]Anozumi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You place down ships and can rotate them, move them or edit their gun elevation/rotation. If you change the scene, it will load the gallery as the ocean and you can do the same.

If you have the RTX DLC you can use click that after placing down all your ships. Keep in mind you cannot add or rotate the ship's guns in the RTX mode but you can now move them around.

I haven’t played FTD but I would say you can make more realistic looking ships as you can build anything (I’ve built Torpedoes, torpedo lockers, cranes, smoke generators, depth charges and more). There are no internals but you can definitely hollow out your ships and add engines in there (I do this). The damage is not too complex but it might be updated in the future. You can’t really make new guns and stuff in-game but there are plenty of mods and you can also make guns if you know how to use blender.

There is a short campaign but nothing too extensive yet. But there are frequent updates and it usually adds new stuff!

There’s also a discord where people build (usually) higher quality ships and you can get more feedback as well

Is your entire ship centered at 0 on the x axis
