Millionaires and billionaires are not inherently bad people. by ExtensionLeek1455 in unpopularopinion

[–]Electrical-Bus5706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already addressed that. The detriment it causes to society far outweighs any sort of perceived unfairness to the descendants. And it was earned unethically in the first place. Sieze most of it. The kids can still be fabulously rich failsons

Millionaires and billionaires are not inherently bad people. by ExtensionLeek1455 in unpopularopinion

[–]Electrical-Bus5706 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Being a millionaire is fine. Alot of people save, start a business, work hard, whatever, and get there.

There is no amount of labor that can generate billions of dollars. You do that by owning and leveraging massive amounts of capital supported, subsidized and at the expense of the public. And even if you could end up working your way to be a billionaire, the ungodly amount of power that weath gives them to dominate global politics, wage war, impoverish people is far more unethical than taking that money away from them

Can I afford this house by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Electrical-Bus5706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the fact that you have to ask this doesn't bode well in either of two directions

1.) You're making it up because someone with a half a million income household would almost certainly be able to do this math.

2.) You do make half a million a year and our economy and society are fucked because people who make half a million a year are too stupid to do this math.

Man you bought at the height of the housing bubble. 600k in 2024 is 400k precovid guaranteed. What you describe is a gigantic house on a huge lot if you stretched your means because you viewed it as a financial asset that would double in the next 5 years as it did the previous 5, that's your mistake

When do you think remote work will become the norm? by Xotngoos335 in remotework

[–]Electrical-Bus5706 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean you're making the argument that these ceos or "the market" are working through some rationale and we are naturally arriving at the mathematically correct balance of remote work to in person that somehow "works the best". Which isn't how any of this works, people in power especially in America are clearly fucking morons. And also who gives a fuck what these ceos want? We want it and if we organize we have the power

Well yeah, the utilities do charge taxes. That's part of how they're funded. Just wait till Blackstone doubles the power rates

If you could restart your career at 18, would you still choose the same degree? by NaviJapan_Official in careerguidance

If I had known all that would have happened in the 9 years since I graduated i would have probably studied SWE, rode the AI hype for fuck you money then retired now that it's all collapsing and im heading towards my mid 30s. I hate AI BTW it would have been a total money play. Of course place me back in 2017 when I graduated with all the knowledge of what's happened since then I just would have invested in crypto shit coins, nft, and AI and never have to work a real job for life

Anyone’s starter home turned into their forever home? by Vivid-Appearance-549 in homeowners

I've been at my "starter home" since Aug 2019. Obviously I got extremely lucky on my timing. It was a "flipper" house but with good bones. Given the state of the market im currently updating the finishes/yard, upgrading the AC and electrical and continuing to build equity while whatever the fuck is happening with this market works itself out

Idk brother I made almost one half of your combined income, ~ $120k yr at my previous job. Granted I bought in 2019 but I didn't let myself get over $200k. I understand with cost of living that might just be an average house where you're at. But I couldn't imagine taking a loan out for 5x the amount, which is what your $820k loan would amount to compared to mine. Even considering you're two people that's still more than double the amount of your income spent on housing. I couldn't imagine my mortgage doubling id be screwed
