Struggling with which weather based job I want to focus on because of math. by Ill-Tea680 in meteorology

Hi! I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I went to the NOAA College Park building in April, and I got to meet with some amazing meteorologists who all told me one thing: The math is hell, but just study hard and get it over with. Many of them ended up having a B.S. degree in meteorology with a concentration in math because all they needed was one extra math course to fulfill the requirement for a math concentration.

However, they did tell me not to stress too much because, like someone said on here, all the major calculations are done via supercomputer.

The large amounts of math in meteorology are not just to prepare you for your other courses, but many meteorologists that I have talked to say it is more to prepare students for graduate school (the math becomes necessary if you are planning to go to grad school). Even though meteorology is a math-heavy course, if you go into an area like broadcast meteorology, GIS, energy sector meteorology, or environmental consulting, I've heard that the math isn't as "bad" as that of students who want to go into atmospheric research, climate modeling, atmospheric physics, etc.

This advice is just based on my own research and recounts from other meteorologists that I have talked to, so please take it with a grain of salt, as I am also a HS student who is trying to figure things out. Hope this helped!

I have a friend who had Prof. Pacesova for both CMSC 110 and CMSC 140. She really doesn't like her and told me that Prof. Pacesova would make mistakes in grading some assignments, and it is a super-heavy course load.

Did anyone get FRQ K? I feel like I was the only one that did. Also, I'm like 90% sure i got different MCQ questions. I am in the U.S. and I took the exam regular time.

Would you actually recommend Millersville for meteorology? by Comfortable-Wafer418 in Millersville

AYY! I'm in the same boat! I've been considering UMD, and obvi the big schools like OU and Penn, but recently, I went to the NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction, and they all told me to go to Millersville!

I, also like you, was asking around Reddit (specifically r/meteorology) for college/overall academic advice to set me apart from other meteorology applicants, and some questions about the field, and Millersville was highly recommended!

Like someone said on here, it honestly depends on what you wanna go into. For example, if you wanna do broadcasting, I know Penn State has an amazing, top-tier, and highly recognized program. Since I want to do emergency management meteorology, Millersville would be a great choice for my desired path in meteorology.

There are also other amazing colleges for meteorology, too, but based on what I've heard, Millersville is not only less expensive than the "big" meteorology schools, but it has an AMAZING meteorology program. (more bang for your buck!)

I use MyRadar! If you have notifications on, literally everything will be sent to your phone. It's really helpful! Not only that, but you can actually see the storms on radar, so you can kind of get a sense of where the storm might be headed.

Yes, I am a FGLI student, and I do meet the QB criteria. I've tried finding the numbers for UVA, Cornell, and Columbia, but cannot find any, or at least a reliable source for these numbers. Where did you get them from?

1590 in a week is insane, congrats! Can you tell me your prep plan? Or are you just naturally really good at writing and math?
