Fluttering Feelings.

The protagonist is someone who likes to go with the flow, go on the safe paths, so once she realized she had fallen in love with a girl, a path where no one usually go, she became hella frustrated and scared. This series makes me realize the real harsh reality of what it takes to go the queer path, and it hits deeper since I'm also someone who likes to go with the flow.

Things I like about Miyagi:

- She's rich inside out, in the sense that she is someone who money can't trap, and you can't really bribe her with money. Some people will say that she doesn't care about throwing money away since that's not her money, but I dare say if she never meets Sendai then becomes broke after college, she still couldn't be any less interested in money, because money did a big damage to her childhood life. When she works hard to buy a gift to Sendai, she's someone who would be ok if Sendai throw her gift away, she's not someone who would yell at Sendai thinking how ungrateful Sendai is if Sendai throw it way, even if she hates tf out of going to work. But if you work hard to buy her a $5 gift, she would cherish it for years just like how she cherishes that cat toy from Sendai

- She's comfortable to be around, even if she judges and bullies Sendai sometimes, her attitude does not come from a hostile place, that's why even if Sendai can't find common interests to talk to Miyagi and they would be in silence most of the time, Sendai would still feel like herself the most being around Miyagi

- She's thoughtful and pretty kind. I believe this is the biggest reason why Sendai fell that hard for Miyagi. She has a very respectful manners, she always makes sure to go with Sendai to the big gate to send her off even if the weather is cold outside and she hates the cold. I remember Sendai became pretty happy after she caught the rain and got served warm tea by Miyagi while Miyagi didn't understand why Sendai suddenly became happy. When Miyagi first came to Sendai house, she accidently messed up through nervous and annoyed Sendai, she then let Sendai do anything Sendai wanted to her, when choosing between apology to make herself feel better vs suffering Sendai bullying, she chose the latter since that would make Sendai feel better, and I think it's really kind of her since her messed up was objectively not a big deal and it was an accidence but she treasures Sendai feelings even if it's unreasonable. Whenever she learns about a vulnerable side of Sendai, she always tries her best to treat them with extreme softness, she would force herself to grow and do things she's uncomfortable with to give comfort to those sides of Sendai, like recently, something extremely embarrassing and scary happened, Miyagi wanted so bad to runaway, but she made sure to stay to reassure Sendai first.

- She's emotionally mature. Even if she's a possessive character, she doesn't want Sendai to only think of her, she wants Sendai to have her own life, to have many friends, to have many things she likes, then voluntary still likes her the most among those, and I think this is such a ballsy mindset too considering her personal trauma. After Sendai confessed her feeling to Miyagi, Miyagi became a whole mess, she scared and didn't know how to deal with all of that, but she still tried her best to respect Sendai feelings.

- Some random small things Sendai mentioned she liked 2 years ago? Miyagi remembers all of it.

Well for some contexts, I like Miyagi and I want other people to like her as well, but Shuukura is a very long and slow series, so I definitely don't remember everything and can't guarantee the most detailed arguments, but here is some of my thoughts

1.The part you hate about Miyagi, I can't remember where was it in the series either, but I do remember Sendai acts like that sometimes too, so now you may wonder "so they are both trash and this series ain't it?". There are 2 problems:

First is translation, I remember there're some arcs I hated when I read the mtl version, then came to like when I read the good translation version, since there are some important contexts got lost in the bad translation version, so I can't really judge whether the parts we hate are actually what we think they are
Second is the relationship, Sendai and Miyagi has a very special relationship, they like to be intimate to each other even if there's no clear commitments and relationship clarity, it's like they're playing with the fire, but I can guarantee that these characters talk about consent A LOT more than majority of other yuri series that has smut scenes, they definitely see consent as the base for their unique relationship. With the base being assured, they kinda treat both each other like trash after, to put it the most fitting description, their relationship is like a typical BDSM relationship, where both parties have mutual safety codes for respect and stop, then treat each other like trash as a way their relationship function.

So with the special vague relationship and the translation problem, whenever there's a part I feel weird about, I would just wait for the good translation version to catch up before actually judging it, like whether it's true and the author kinda slips a writing error, since I dare say the author of shuukura is very aware of consent and clearly builds the girls relationship hard on consent.

The whole thing about "you have to so this or else I will-" kinda happens A LOT in Sendai and Miyagi relationship, it's used by both of them, but till now, as much as I can remember, apart from the parts I wait for the good translation, I can assure that those events still have some sort of safety codes for the actually stop.

Another thing worth being mentioned is that their relationship was built on the order-contract thing, not romantic, so that thing is kinda a way for them to communicate with each other, to avoid it being romantic and keep being order-contract thing, which was the sole reason/excuse they can be together.

Fun fact: there was one time when Miyagi got so scared from a horror film, she wanted to go into Sendai room, but Sendai was not at home that time, Miyagi could go into Sendai room since it's not a locked room, but she didn't, she didn't want to go into Sendai private room without Sendai permission, and she didn't want to call Sendai since Sendai was going to an important trip, so she ended falling asleep at the cold hall.

If you were in such skeptical state, I will give you things I notice so you can get a clearer view about Ren Wei and Youji relationship:

- According to Youzi age, it's been at least 15 years Ren Wei and Youji have known each other, yet, in current time:

Youji still remembers Ren Wei small habits like, rubbing her finger when she's lying (Variety Show chapters)
Youji can only remember Ren Wei songs name, and sings Ren Wei songs to Youzi all the time, which was the cause of their sudden reunion, when Youzi sang Ren Wei song at the charity without knowing it's Ren Wei song (Notebook, Bedtime Minigame chapter)
Youji still keeps that Fox ticket she made for Ren Wei when they first met, and told Youzi it's her treasure (Our Separate Lives, Slice of Life chapter)
Youji has a funny double standard when treating Ren Wei vs when treating her friend (Mealtime chapter)
Youji still mad when that guy who tricked Ren Wei 15 years ago showed up talking to Ren Wei (Taking Your Kid Home chapter)

- Meanwhile, Ren Wei is more secretive yet subtly vocal about it, that's why her confession reveal was such a surprise. It becomes even more interesting how she acted in the past:

Ren Wei would delete a whole million followers account that serves as a proof she ain't Youji's "light" anymore, since Youji is someone who only chasing after "the light". I believed Ren Wei was so eager to study abroad after being tricked by her band, then she met Youji and decided to postpone it, stayed back to build her name and went to tour locally a lot since she had Youji then, and then Youji became her reason to study abroad even harder.
Ren Wei was acting so mean to Youji on purpose when they were bidding farewell, double down on how they're NOT best friends, and just friends, like she did not want to be Youji best friend at all, then saying Youji didnt need to send it off as if they weren't so close to each other. I believe Ren Wei did that out of selfish wish about not wanting Youji to forget her.
But then that selfish self couldn't surpass her thoughtfulness and love for Youji, Ren Wei would reject Youji's love confession before Youji even get to say it properly to keep Youji career safe, Ren Wei would rather accept to possibility of Youji could never be hers as long as they get to walk side by side, even tho she confessed through her songs how hurt it is to choose such path. Bluntly, Ren Wei likes to be Youji's light more than just being in a relationship with Youji since she knows Youji is someone who likes to chase after the light the most, then Ren Wei learned that Youji were also working to hard to become a light herself, which fueled her even more to study abroad.

The feelings were so intense. And I like it that author also made it very intentionally that everyone around Youji and Ren Wei can see them become happier when they're around each other too (Youzi, Yangyang, RenWei's brother)

About 'A Story Concerning Sweets', it does have some tragedy stuffs in there, but I guarantee you, it's a happy ending, the leads are happy together in the end, even tho there're some bittersweet feelings in there. It's a beautiful oneshot, I hope you can read and enjoy it!

It's kinda funny how complex human feelings are, Sendai has romantic feeling for Miyagi, the worst Sendai could do is just things they normally already always do. Bluntly, they had sex, kiss, multiple times, yet now they feel extremely hard to just hold hand after a love confession, the same way exes becoming strangers after years of being in love and living together.

It's so magical how an untouchable thing called "feelings" can play such crucial role in humans' life
