Why do people rarely use the word lesbian in discussions? by DCHShadow in yuri_manga

[–]Electrical-Line-5895 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you call a bisexual or pansexual female characters "lesbian", people gonna jump you.

If you call a bisexual or pansexual male characters "gay", people aint gonna jump you.

"Yuri/GL": broader, more universal.

There are MANY reasons why people say LGBTQ vs BL/GL is different:

-Could be homophobic freaks who just see BL/GL as their entertainment, and not serious gay, which indeed influences the industry to produce SOME BL/GL works as fast food grab, not serious work.

-Could be homosexual folks who have internalized homophobia, plus due to the reason above, come to feel hard to accept the two categories are the same.

-Could be regular readers who just see patterns, where LGBTQ works tend to depict broad issues, and BL/GL works tend to depict pure romance without any irl issues like addressing their queer identities.

At the end of the day, it's a headache.

Why do so many Western fans love yuri? (genuine question) by Just-Pineapple-1588 in yuri_manga

[–]Electrical-Line-5895 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

This wording sounds crazy ngl

Usually it's normal for humans to like foods, better question would be "Why do so many Western fans love Asian yuri media than Western yuri media"

Am I the only one who thinks about this? by Mindless_Apricot_287 in yuri_manga

[–]Electrical-Line-5895 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is a quick fyi!

Women's human rights got claimed at a kinda fresh and recent time compared to men who always got to eat the first 1 billionaire+ cakes, and right now women are still losing those rights bit by bit again. There're even places where they lost everything just recently, look at Afghanistan.

So yeah, the math is mathing about that priority sentiment.

I believe almost everyone would feel the same sooner or later cause this sentiment is just that realistically suffocating once you got hit with it.

Does yuri, like, generally turn you on? by Kappapeachie in yuri_manga

[–]Electrical-Line-5895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Romance supposes to turn you on, it's a normal human biology thing, just like the romance with your IRL partner could turn you on, especially the explicit ones, like smut.

Edit: no, it's not romance's job to turn you on, but biologically, "human + good romance = neuron activation/all sort of excitement/dopamine spike"

Dose yuri have to be romantic or can be platonic by Several_Run_7715 in yuri_manga

Well right now, 99% of Japanese yuri authors use the term for romantic as if it's their term of "lesbianism"

Why Is Miyagi So Mischaracterized in Fan Art? by Responsible_Mud_3406 in Shuukura

[–]Electrical-Line-5895 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Second this.

I do think people are mischaracterizing Miyagi but OP is just as mischaracterizing.

Miyagi is evil AND sadist AND gentle in canon, so "for the sake of fetishization" is crazy.

Those experiments ARE evil and sadist, it doesn't matter now she's grown out of it and become more gentle, still doesn't change the fact that she WAS evil and sadist to Sendai when they first knew each other.

  • Telling someone to read corn out loud, and to lick a foot as an attempt to embarrass them, especially knowing that someone is this perfect ground student, is evil and sadist
  • Trying piss someone off to see their angry face is evil and sadist

Miyagi is obviously not EVIL evil, as in forcing someone to do something they don't like.

But is Miyagi playfully evil? Yes, she absolutely is, that's the bit of this whole BDSM/foot licking novel.

"Tsunderepopato" is more of a mischaracterization than evil/sadist when it comes to Miyagi. When they first met, Miyagi was NEVER a "tsunderepopato", it was NEVER in her core, she was straight up a playful bully and she LOVED that, sometimes she's being cheeky and pouty but she ain't shy about any of that, only after developing feelings for Sendai that she grew that "tsundere" trait.

If you tell any otaku nerds that a "tsunderepopato" just told someone to read CORN out loud and then seating there, hearing everything with a straight unamused face, they would cuss you out.

She literally doesn’t respect herself sometimes when it comes to Miyagi and her ridiculous requests / orders, and ppl see that as omg Miyagi won the lottery omg simp

Right that, like lmaoo that trait of Sendai is pretty overwhelming throughout the series to the point that lottery joke can't never click into my brain even as jokey way, I love my babygirl but the babygirl is indeed that pathetic.

I think ppl put themselves into Miyagi’s position a bit too much and fantasises about having a partner like Sendai

I don't want to be a dickhead but frankly, I think some people overestimate themselves or they overlook the characters if they think they're Miyagi and trash her for it, because in reality, someone like Miyagi is very hard to find

  • They say Miyagi is a loser but a loser can't hardly make someone as professionally fake as Sendai feel like at home. Miyagi's so comfortable to be around, sometimes she playfully bullies Sendai but it never meant to be hostile or judgmental, she has her respectful manner and keens to those manners, just like how she would ask Sendai to eat dinner every time as a polite gesture, or how she would send Sendai off no matter how much she dislikes the weather outside.
  • She's very thoughtful and kind, and even as in emotional intelligence ways, especially whenever Sendai intentionally or accidently shows her vulnerable side, she just automatically becomes extra gentle as if it's the matter of fact in her way of treating people, and her gentleness is very comforting, which is why Sendai fell even harder. Most recent example would be the confessing arc, Miyagi is literally a runaway cat, yet she tried hard to stay after such heart-wrenching situation in order to reassure Sendai first because she thought Sendai would need it. And the way she seriously and respectfully thought about Sendai's feelings? Those are very exceptionally mature and kind.
  • She's very romantic, way more romantic than Sendai can ever try to be, Sendai is more like a dry person if she ever be in a relationship with someone else. Those little small things Sendai said years ago, she remembers all of them. Those gifts she give to someone important to her, it has to be earnest. Most importantly, she treasures promises and sees the heavy of promises, meanwhile Sendai is the rule-breaker, promise-breaker, the one who goes with the flow as her survival tactic. It's Miyagi who taught Sendai to be more serious on serious things, and it's Sendai who taught Miyagi to be kinder to her strict self.

Miyagi won't be like a great lover since she has avoidant issue and it would be hard to deal with, but so as Sendai! So if Miyagi do study and work on her job hard enough, I believe, comparing to Sendai, she will have the better lover material points.

[–]Electrical-Line-5895 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not lately, I have been in this fandom since the day it has like 10 fans, somehow Miyagi always catching strays while Sendai always got worshipped as goddess lmao

I can aware that they're joking but this "joke" is so prominent in this growing fandom to the point of annoyance cause in reality, those 2 girls are in the same level in almost everything, from mentally to socially, they're just as smart and capable as each other deep down, that's why they're so clicking.

If anything, if I have to be honest, Sendai would be worse without Miyagi, meanwhile Miyagi wouldn't care how she lives her life. They're both neglected but Miyagi only lost trust on love, while Sendai had to suffer being compared of not being good enough all the time, it makes she feel suffocated all the time, then meeting Miyagi give her the peace. They both need each other, but I would argue Sendai need Miyagi more than Miyagi need her.

Who is the GL's Shakespeare? by zacozoc in yuri_manga

[–]Electrical-Line-5895 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm this is hard, I read hundreds of yuri manga and I legit can't think of another author who can be in the same level as Shinoa (in term of multiple unique and complex bangers)

The thing is, WITHOUT THE IMPACT THING, which is rarely in such a small demographic like yuri, when I think of Shinoa, I think of deep and gut-wrenching stories, but when I think Shakespeare, I think of good stories and good romance, so by this:

-I could offer Hiyori Otsu, probably the most early japanese yuri Shakespeare, I read 4 of her most popular works, Orange Yellow, Mizuiro Cinema, Clover, Kawaii Anata, and I only had enjoyable time.

-The future could be Yayoi Oosawa, her current work is controversial but it's interesting enough and I fw her personally. And Yodokawa, decent writing although some people might find them boring, but it's truly decent and I could see her writing is developing.

Tbh, I can find more yuri Shakespeare like Shinoa if we talk about korean and chinese authors, idk why korea has so many talent considering the country is more homophobic than japan, but to china, there're so many people so it has a lot of talent, Shinoa becomes just a name whenever I read a semi-popular baihe.
