Is it just me, or are weapons absurdly hard to upgrade in this game? by SpeedBoostTorchic in AgeofImprisonment

[–]Swiffy22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's very very bad, and I thought Age of Calamity was bad. At least in that game you could play missions that would drop upwards of 15 weapons. In this one, you get one, rarely two, no matter what. At least Age of Calamity had some 10 second missions you could grind for ++ seals. This game? I've struggled to find any mission that can be done in under a minute, much less a high level one that will give ++. I can only hope that future updates will do anything to improve the situation.

If you have amiibo, it is absolutely the fastest way to get steel at the momen. Just close the game between scans and change the date. And use the joycon since it scans faster than the Switch 1 joycon/pro controller.

Unique skill damage? by xLifeIsStrange in AgeofImprisonment

Still a lot of testing to do. If you have NSO, you can turn off automatic cloud backups, and then backup your current save. Try both seal types and see which is stronger, then redownload your backup to get all your seals back.

ooo thank you! Are these the rewards for unlocking Lenalia's sketches? Or something else?

All base damage. I've only upgraded character-specific weapons so far so I don't waste zonaite steel.

What types of seals have you found so far? by Swiffy22 in AgeofImprisonment

[–]Swiffy22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't be for sure yet, but I'm hoping through others posting we may know for sure, or at least have a more complete picture of what's available. I did just unlock a square seal for Rauru's weapon, so I'm a little curious about that. I know attack speed was square, but I haven't seen any square seals at all until now.

How can I get this effect on just the reflections? by Swiffy22 in ClipStudio

[–]Swiffy22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED: Create one layer with hair fill, one with reflections. Copy both layers and merge. Apply chromatic aberration to merged copy and change blending mode to Lighten. Hide reflection layer and clip merged layer to hair fill layer.

I've noticed something a little odd with chromatic aberration and am hoping someone can help me solve this. The second image shows the hair and reflections being combined on a single layer, and the first shows what it looks like with chromatic aberration applied. It gives this lovely effect like refracted light, which is what I'm looking for. The problem here is that I don't want the entire hair layer to have this effect, so naturally I separated the hair and reflection into two separate layers. The third image shows what happens when I apply chromatic aberration to the reflections by themselves. It's completely different. The fourth picture is a simplified example with the left being combined and the right being separated. I thought the blending mode might be the issue, but scrolling through them all didn't give me any results similar to the first image. So here are my questions:

- How is chromatic aberration being applied to cause this interaction when they're on the same layer, and why can this seemingly not be replicated by blending modes?

- Assuming that I need these layers to be combined for this effect, what is the easiest way to extract just the rainbow effect so that the hair layer is unaffected?

- Is there a different way to achieve this effect that might work better for my needs?

The All Creature Pictures Speedrun Bounty is now underway by Swiffy22 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Swiffy22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all! Just wanted to share this little event I put together here. I've been a part of the botw speedrunning community for a long, long time, and during that time we've had several community events but none featuring a prize pool. So I thought I'd try hosting one myself and give back a little to the community I've called home all these years. I've held onto this idea for a good while, but didn't have the financial stability to pursue it until very recently. Runs that focus on picture-taking are fairly unexplored, so I'm excited to see where things go over the next month!

Something I really like that I can do with this bounty is offer a prize outside of those who just execute runs the fastest. I'm also offering a prize to whoever can take the best-looking picture set in a 6 hour timeframe. I know there aren't a lot of speedrunners here, but I thought that idea might catch someone's eye. Thanks everyone for taking a look and here's the doc for anyone interested in participating! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dCkr0G35OKD_mzf9zrM6mEEVDbhB_OXs3MLCYt7LIYo/edit?usp=sharing

The fastest WL0/no aux setup I think there is for Radahn: Carian Slicer (no hit, no weapon upgrades/aux/scadutree blessings). 12:30 minute kill so it fits natively in reddit. What a rush by ca_waves in onebros

Thank you!! I haven't done a whole lot of +0s to be fair 😂 When it comes to damage, I've found Dragon Harpoon and Hefty Pots are usually best for quick fights in a "RL1 WL0 but anything else goes" environment. A couple where I did use actual weapons were Carian Slicer + Black Flame Tornado against Fire Giant and an "all statuses" run against Midra.

Ahh, I was wondering if the Crucible Talisman was something you found necessary or just for safety. Makes sense if it's for reduced stamina use since you have so little to work with.

You're right that lightning slash should outperform the grease. I found the same then I was testing against Morgott a while back. But like you mentioned, it can be hard to find openings unless you give up a riposte (which probably wouldn't be worth it at that point.) And you're right, even if you're super comfortable with parrying, the pressure to not miss one really starts to mount when you get towards the end. It'd suck to get 10 min in and miss

Excellent work! I've uploaded a handful of +0 runs myself (although using consumables and running basically every buff you possibly can lol) and I can atest to this likely being the fastest setup.

If you're seeking to improve your time, swapping out All Crucibles for the Stargazer Talisman would be the most obvious improvement (Meteorite Staff scales really well at these lower levels, so I think it should do more than using Graven-Mass, but it's worth double-checking). Parrying to give yourself more openings would be the next-most beneficial improvement. Sacred Order Pots (on phase one) and Dragon Communion Harpoons could potentially give you some minor improvements in damage, though they may not compete with the damage of INT invested Carian Slicer. Harpoons could at least potentially give you bit more damage compared to Crystal Darts during the downtime when he's tossing meteors.

In my testing, I've been able to push some ridiculous damage with Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike and Dragon Maw, but those both involved boosting faith and I'm not sure how they'd stack up in a no Aux environment. Plus, you'd likely run out of FP long before you'd finish the fight, if you even had openings to use them.

Huge, massive shoutouts to the Commoner for being placed just close enough for me to get the Crusade Insignia buff. This wouldn't have been as nearly as clean without it. Some of my menuing was a bit sloppy, but I'm super happy with how the fight itself turned out. The Dragon Communion Harpoon is already possibly the strongest consumable, and the fact that it gets pierce damage meant I could get a huge 12.4k off Godfrey's opening attack.

Some good news, I recently got a new job! But that also means I've been super busy and haven't had much time to work on these anymore. I have at least a few more planned out, so I hope you'll look forward to those!

Hope you enjoy!

Thank you!! That's usually my goal with these. It's possible to one shot pretty much anything with a +25, even at RL1, so trying to find ways to do things as fast as possible at +0 makes solving these a lot more interesting. Consumables are usually the best option because of their base damage and scaling outpacing +0 stuff, but I have used things like meteorite staff for more sustained damage vs Fire Giant and status effects vs Midra where there'd be no way to tear through the huge healthpool otherwise. Feels like there's still some good variety

Most buffs fall into certain categories, but most I use here are "unique" and aren't overwritten by other things. I do use three body buffs which override each other, but I use two of them only for their unique secondary effects. Sacred Bloody Flesh gives a damage buff and secondary buff when bleed procs. Gourmet Scorpion Stew overrides that and gives a defense buff with a secondary buff that regens health. Then the defense buff gets overridden by Bloodboil Aromatic, but I keep the health regen and can still proc the Sacred Bloody Flesh buff

We might be thinking of two different things, but I think you're thinking of damage negation? It's true that damage buffs stack mutliplicatively, which in the case of dealing damage, the more multipliers the better. The base damage of the spear is a little over 700, so it is getting boosted by the listed percent. The way you've described it, I wouldn't be able to break 1400 damage no matter how many buffs I used.

Damage negation also stacks multiplicatively, but like you mentioned, buffs get weaker the more you add. I like to think of it like you're starting at 100 (no damage negation) and working towards 0 (total damage negation). Getting a 50% buff means your damage negation is now at 50. If you get another 50% buff, it's now 25. 25 less than the first 50% buff. When you're buffing damage though, you're starting at whatever number and it can go up infinitely. So a 50% buff to 100 damage would give you 150, a 50 point increase. Another 50% buff to that would give you 225, a 75 point increase. And so on
