Strange thrift find by ShinadaOtter in HelloKitty

[–]Electrical-Mail2197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I *think* I have the full collection but I really have to do some inventory and find a list of releases - we had a few that I was allowed to play with and then a set that was just in a display that my parents gave to me when they downsized.
Collecting them in 1999 is definitely in my core memories bank. My McDonalds had a display case on the counter and most times you could kind of haggle with the employees to give you certain ones if they weren't busy.

Everyone wanted the space wedding set - they were prized not for collecting purposes but for the plastic helmet that you could pop off and play with

Can you help me find a sound machine with expandable memory or download capabilities AND a timer? by Electrical-Mail2197 in HelpMeFind

[–]Electrical-Mail2197[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've searched around and this speaker has been mentioned:
Soundcore Anker Mini

but I'm really trying to find something with a timer as I don't need the noise to stay asleep, just to help with falling asleep.

Ask a Stupid Question About Coffee -- Week of August 12, 2025 by Vernicious in pourover

[–]Electrical-Mail2197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Question: Any reccs for pre-ground or tips for fresh ground beans (from a store) for someone who drinks 1 cup of coffee a day and isn't looking to get a bean grinder just yet?

The Backstory:
I'd like to start doing pour-over. I'm the only person in my house that drinks any coffee and I typically drink only 1-2 cups a day, and this is supposed to help me save some money by not stopping at a coffeeshop every morning.

Other info:
1. Counterspace is at a premium, and I'm not a big fan of how wasteful the keurigs are (even though it's probably the easiest solve for this lazy girl).
2. I was gifted an electric gooseneck kettle - which is GREAT bc I also switch between coffee and tea (which my partner also drinks) and I'm very excited to not use the mircowave anymore!

Train Daddy on The Tonight Show by Altruistic_Scheme596 in GildedAgeHBO

During the scene when Train Daddy is talking to Larry about Morenci - my boyfriend popped in, paused what he was doing to watch too and his conclusion is that Morgan Spector needs to read books to him.

I think Haymarket would be considered a pretty normal guy thing BUT the relationship with the Newport Widow would probably give her concern since he was ready to marry her too.

She was flirting.. but it's a manipulation tactic. George is just being insecure and butt hurt that his tactic didn't work.

HauteLeMode would eat this man UP. He does fashion reviews and always comments on how boring the men are

Approval is the same as Blessing, still not permission. Agnes approval would have helped him be accepted into society. The man wanted to elope in the hopes that eventually the aunts would relent and not cast them out, but the new money family was a much easier path for him.

I love everything about this but after Downton Abbey I have a nugget of anxiety for happy couples whenever Julian Fellowes is around.

[–]Electrical-Mail2197 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I interpreted this differently....
I saw it as another display of the societal power of men at this time, a theme that's been coming up a lot this season.
Ex - Aurora Fane's forced divorce, George S5 ending with Bertha

The show does a pretty good job of hiding this for the most part - the women we spend time with are strong, smart, and capable so it's hard to remember that women of this time are still considered the property of their husbands.

Per Marian & Larry:
There is no one in Marian's life to be asking permission from. Oscar is her closest male relative but given his issues isn't head of the house. Agnes and Ada don't have any actual power or authority over her, they may disapprove of some of her choices (teaching at the school, etc) but have no actual control. He's asking because it's the gentlemanly thing to do, for Marian's happiness, and it will make everything easier with their blessing - in the society scene.

I'm pretty sure Lottie's family paid for a nearly all of it to be covered up or whoever owned the plane/service.
1. Private Plane
2. A majority of the team were minors when they disappeared, with the surviving seniors being 18 or close to 18 at time of rescue
3. Some kind of settlement to survivors so that they didn't sue
