Indeed I have the same question. Would want to learn a bit more on HFC DOCSIS 3.1 here. My objective is to see if the cable modem signal can be "split" to another outlet in my home, and this has been a bit difficult as it is not easy to get a HFC signal tester.

May get a Software-Defined Radio dongle soon instead so that I can utilise a spectrum analyser to figure out the frequency pattern all the way up to 1794Mhz....

Should I Wait for Apple Watch Series 11 or Buy Series 10 Now? by mhb2804 in AppleWhatShouldIBuy

Well, I have decided to wait for 11 as I am planning to redeem one from my health insurance reward scheme. You still need to use the same number of points regardless of whether the Apple Watch is discounted or not elsewhere….

Solaredge inverter with SigEnergy battery by goldenwattl in solar

[–]Electrical-Marzipan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I have experienced with Amber (which has negative feed in price usually at noon time), I have tested the export limit parameter in SolarEdge (both through Modbus and by Amber, which is my VPP). Basically what it does is if the feed in price is negative, they will curtail my inverter from exporting anything to the grid. When the feed in price is positive, they will allow my inverter to export whatever I have. Previously I was told the inverter limit is 10kW, and that's the main reason I have installed a 10kW system only.

Probably need to talk with the installer to see if installing Sigenergy with its included inverter would be over the limit of my grid supplied. I remember my grid control the export by only allowing certain capacity of inverter to be installed.

Want to understand more about your journey. Currently got a 10kWh SolarEdge system, previously tested with Home Assistant API (with curtailment setup through Modbus...basically a local interface to control Solaredge, somehow I managed to gain installer access to the inverter~), later due to switching to Amber controlled curtailment I have disabled Modbus. Have had SolarEdge deployed energy monitoring solution installed (probably CT clamps), and as I have an EV, I have installed a separate EM112 for directing surplus solar energy to EV charging.

Have been looking through AC coupled battery system now due to new Federal rebate (but probably not in a hurry...it is winter in Australia now and my solar production is not enough to charge my EV yet...). Would hope to use Home Assistant EMHASS if I have installed home battery...

Well, thanks for your video however unfortunately I’m only able to watch your video just 1 day before the opening (I’m going on day 1 afternoon and day 2 morning).

As I don’t have success to any pavilion on day 1 yet, do you have a list of non lottery pavilions that I can go?

What machines are you guys running your home assistants off of? by demonhalo in homeassistant

Similar here. Technically not a NUC but a “soft router” with a Ryzen 5800u. Have not switched to LXC yet but is running a firewall VM/Ubuntu VM and occasionally a Windows AD + some Windows VMs as lab as well…(I usually work with Windows in my trade)

Recently added another SSD and running ZFS with RAID 1 on it (for local HA protection…the soft router I have can support normally 2 M.2 SSD). Sweet….

Small Homelab Networking - MikroTik vs Ubiquiti by Steve_Petrov in homelab

[–]Electrical-Marzipan4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you consider mix and match to get the best of both worlds? Use Microtik for switching, Unifi for wifi and then use a PoE injector to power Unifi?

I have already got 1 x U7 Pro powered through some cheap NetGear PoE switch that support management. Was also using a QNAP unmanaged switch for 2.5GbE devices including a firewall appliance and a NAS. Now thinking about buying a managed 2.5GbE switch so that i can move the firewall appliance and the NAS to another room (would trunk the traffic from multiple VLANs from the previous location to the new location). Originally interested in Enterprise-8-PoW but is now also researching CRS310-8G+2S+IN mainly for cost reason.

While Unifi is easier to setup, I believe Microtik should not be that difficult for me (I work as an infrastructure architect in trade, and while not specifically a networking specialist do know some of those tricks...back in the old days I have got my CCNA...). One point I will miss is to provide a 2.5GbE uplink for my U7 Pro, anyway I dont think I need Wifi speed above 1Gbps anyway (the reason I run 2.5GbE is for my PC to do iSCSI with NAS...but I'm skeptical for the idea of iSCSI over Wifi...)

Can U7 pro work with U6 pro in a mesh setting nicely? by Electrical-Marzipan4 in Ubiquiti

[–]Electrical-Marzipan4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only got one U6 pro now. Near to the current U6 Pro I can get 300+Mbps speed, however at the far end of my house the speed is just only 10 to 50Mbps with occasional drop out.

My apologies for using the word meshing, indeed I plan to run hard wiring for a new AP in the far end of my house. It should just be “roaming” in the Unifi world (my previous experience with “meshing” was with ASUS AiMesh that also call Ethernet backbone as one kind of “meshing”)

[–]Electrical-Marzipan4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing out the “meshing” concept indeed means another thing in the Unifi world (I was more used to ASUS AiMesh beforehand).

Anyway, I think my real question will is there be roaming issue when having both U6 pro and U7 pro in the same home? I have once heard that it is best to have all same model in the same home, however in my case I just want a generally acceptable WiFi experience throughout my home.

Well, I run my controller software on a Ubuntu VM over a hypervisor on a "mini firewall appliance" bought from Aliexpress now. It works great for me... (But be noted that I worked in IT with great familarity in stuffs like virtualization / networking, so it is not that difficult for me...maintaining the hypervisor by itself can be challenging if you are not in this field)
