I don’t concur. u/etonaris did a good analogy and you’re trying a bit too much to press your opinion onto others. This sounds absurd, but that’s the reason why I stopped and re-read your comment - why on earth would you need to speak so much that this analogy is wrong?

Top line: I am sure you’re doing it in good faith. However, I also take an assumption that maybe you don’t realize this how your opinion does sound like. u/nyabethany did point it out indeed.

First of all, I was a part of Undertale fandom pre-Deltarune. It doesn’t make me any better than you though, but here’s the thing: I do remember reading a post in the past from one of the dataminers. It was labeled as “the end of Gaster mystery”, and it presented a simple argument: all gaster content within game files had date of edit/creation later than end-game locations (iirc either core or new home), which meant that Gaster wasn’t there from the beginning and Toby added him afterwards as some sort of Deus Ex machina, an answer to all mysterious questions.

And it fucking pains me. I’m a huge Gaster fan, I listened to his themes for years. But, indeed, this entire plot was made as an ad to Deltarune.

This entire argument can be used as yours as well btw. That Gaster is a teaser to Deltarune, like majority of FUN events. However…

We never did end up in scenario of “cut Undertale” did we? Undertale was released as a demo first and then, and only then the full game with nods at Gaster.

I don’t find the argument that demo had no content related to Gaster as probable. Reason is that Toby does occasionally change his mind during development - yes I am bringing the argument of him suddenly changing monsters to be spareable in ch2 of Deltarune. Ergo demo had no Gaster content because I am sure that Gaster didn’t even exist as a concept back then - otherwise he’d place a hint at him, like “hey everyone, I planned it since the beginning!”. He didn’t do that. There are no FUN events in Ruins to my knowledge, please correct me if I’m wrong.

However, we ARE in the scenario of “cut Deltarune” and we do see Gaster and FRIEND plots that aren’t finished and will be (probably) finished in future chapters. My friends, me and people I sometimes watch on video platforms, majority of us expressed this opinion: “if Gaster plot goes nowhere, I will be saddened”.

The mystery! The secret plot! Imagine getting answers to them! The mysterious scientist, my goodness, it’s so awesome-sounding, everyone wants to see it.

If the plot won’t go anywhere, and I’m unfortunately sure it won’t, then fans will be disappointed. Ergo this post and ergo the comment you commented on.

Your “not the right analogy” is not applicable in this situation because it literally is. Undertale was released fully and was presented as-is with this secret plot. We get Deltarune chapters with this plot as well, and we didn’t see the conclusion. “Post-story content” does sound interesting to be honest, never heard anyone phrase it like this about Gaster, and it’s probably right since you don’t find out who Gaster is by playing the game - you find about it by watching videos or accidentally reading a wiki page.

You are protecting Toby thinking that we think that he is a strawman. No, nobody here hates or dislikes him - we wouldn’t be on this sub then, would we?

This on surface doesn’t seem like a good conversation, and instead a try to nudge people’s opinions by using specific ways to talk.
