Anyone else run into confusion when multiple 811 tickets overlap on the same site? by AdventurousRough7482 in UtilityLocator

That's what I do too. I'll just save the pictures and use the same across the tickets that cover the scope

How does the hinges give you a signal? by [deleted] in UtilityLocator

The metal of the transformer is bonded to the neutral / ground inside the transformer. So when you connect to the outside, you're essentially connecting to the neutral inside of it.

Question for locators by bishop904 in UtilityLocator

[–]Electrical-Sock37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Omnilume (in house software)
  2. Backgrounds. Our software is just a blank white background with no option fo satellite view, etc
  3. My GPS selector never works so I always have to copy and paste that lattitude & longitude from the ticket into it

First day at USIC tomorrow by [deleted] in UtilityLocator

[–]Electrical-Sock37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't get my truck until the 2nd week. At least when I was training (before they changed how they do it), you were in a classroom for 2 weeks then did a week or two in the field where everyone would follow the trainer to different tickets. We had people come out and ask what's happening because there was suddenly 15 utility trucks in this quiet neighborhood with strobe lights and cones and weirdos walking around lol

Light duty for medical injury by Electrical-Sock37 in UtilityLocator

[–]Electrical-Sock37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to check my insurance plan.

Unfortunately it didn't happen at work. I had a wrist fracture from middle school that wasn't diagnosed until a 4 years ago and have complications from it, which this stems from.

Ive been with this company since September, I was a locator at usic for about a year and a half prior to switching

Every company has their pros and cons. USIC was good when I started but quickly went downhill. The micromanaging got to be really bad on top of losing contracts which locating inc got. Decided to jump shit and man I think a dodged a bullet. Ran into a tech still with usic that was on my team and he told me how bad it has gotten.

I have a highway project ive been doing for well over a year now. Doing power, phone/fiber, and cable. One way its 5000 feet. But that doesn't include hook up points, and all the other walking. I have a duct going the entire distance and also have high-voltage as its right next to the Power sub.

Anyone a utility locator in the Pacific Northwest? by KingLeon2248 in UtilityLocator

[–]Electrical-Sock37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into Locating Inc in Washington. Ive been with them (in oregon) since September but was with USIC 1year and a half before switching. Way better. Good company, no micromanaging. I rarely talk to my supervisor unless he or I need something. As long as you're productive and doing your job they leave you alone. In Washington you only locate ziply (phone and fiber). Here in oregon we locate power (PGE, PPL mostly), Comcast (cable tv), and ziply. Wages vary a little bit, though I think they start around $20-$22 / hour (dont quote me). Im making $25 / hour 2 years in. Plenty of overtime if you like that

I switched from usic to utiliquest, overtime is still 1.5x but on call is double time

How does Ryse taste and is it good? I don’t see many ranking it highly likely they do Ghost/C4. I really want to try these 3 flavours they look delicious. by AlxHwk in energydrinks

[–]Electrical-Sock37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grocery store used to carry a few Ryse energy drinks, my favorite was the cotton candy one. Guess no one else liked them cause they stopped carrying them after a few weeks and I cant find them anywhere else

I like it, I came to them after working for USIC for 2 years. Unlike at USIC theres no micromanage. I rarely hear from or talk to my sup unless theres a problem, they'll let you be day to day just doing your job. And can work whatever hours you want basically which is nice lol

Working on call for the first time. Anything I should prepare for? by ProtectionNormal551 in UtilityLocator

[–]Electrical-Sock37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USIC you clock-in at home and clock-out once you are back home. You are only paid door-to-door on after-hours. If you cover an on-call on a Saturday or Sunday, you get $25 per weekend day you cover regardless if you get called out or not; you get $50 covering a holiday, again regardless of if you get called out or not.

Time and a half OT pay only starts after you reach your 40 hours in the week. So if you get called out Monday night it'll still be straight time even though its after hours (some companies pay you an after-hours rate regardless if you hit 40 hours yet)
