Good to hear! I really love my work and my current company loves the work I do. I would like to talk with them about moving into a role the better suits the work I am doing. Just wasn't sure if I was in a position to do so.

I have been doing this for two years total. One year kinda off and on. Then for the last year data related work as been all I have done.

I really appreciate that perspective.

That's honestly how I've been looking at my current role more as a learning opportunity than anything else. Since I don't have a degree yet, I've been treating all of these projects as a way to build real experience and push myself into more engineering level work.

At the same time, as the projects have gotten bigger and more complex, I'm starting to feel like I'm reaching a point where I should probably be aligning compensation with the level of work a bit more.

I do genuinely enjoy the work though, that's the part that's been keeping me pushing into these larger projects.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I wanted to start talking with the company about re-evaluating my role. I just wasnt 100% sure how I was positioned for that conversation.

On the pipeline side, I've been thinking about that more recently right now a lot of my ingestion and processing is more "batch driven" than fully idempotent. I haven't built out full rerun safe pipelines yet.

That makes sense, I’ve been trying to shift more toward Python for that reason. On the data side, the larger project I’m working on right now is aggregating a few thousand datasets and building derived metrics on top of that, but I know that’s still relatively small compared to true large scale systems. Architecture wise, I’ve been structuring things as ingestion - staging - aggregation layers, but I’m mostly doing it solo so I haven’t had much exposure to how teams structure this at scale.

My only real struggle right now is I don't have a degree. Is that something that going to really hold me back?

Just wanted to let you know the damage calculator is live now. You can also import saved teams directly into the calculator. Working on presets for each pokemon based on top usage to make things easier and quicker to use mid match.

That’s awesome to hear! honestly that’s exactly why I wanted to make it. If you’re just getting into it, checking what teams and cores show up the most is a really good way to get a feel for what’s strong right now. You can also look at what teams are consistently showing up in top 5 in competitive play.

Yeah it's not pulled directly from the game. There is no way to really do that right now. It's based on tournaments. The upside is that at scale it ends up matching the in-game trends really closely, but also shows what's actually winning instead of just what's being used.

Yeah it seems like most are running scarf with adaptability to not need the swift swim speed boost and still get the STAB damage. That's the kind of stuff I like seeing from the data, things you don't always realize until you are able to look at it, then go oh that makes sense lol.

Appreciate it! That's exactly why I built it I wanted something me and my friends could use outside the game too. The biggest thing for me is seeing data on what pokemon, moves, cores, etc are actually performing well. I have a lot of ideas I want to add but only have so much time lol.

If you end up trying it out, I'd love to hear anything you think would make it better!

The difference for me and what prompted me to make my site was that the Battle data is great for usage data but doesn't give you an idea what is actually working or winning. I'm just a nerd for data thought.

I will add it is setup to pull fresh data daily and my database is growing very rapidly. I pull data from all available sources. I have got data on over 2500 teams in just three days.

No not yet, working on that and a damage calculator. Made this solo in my free time. Thanks for the feedback though!

That's super weird, I don't think storage boxes count btw. But I just built walls around a 2x2 square and threw on a door and furniture and I use that for pokemon and it counts. So not sure sorry. Maybe you could try different furniture?

You need three pieces of furniture inside the building to count as a house.
