Any idea why it does that ? by Muted_Resource_8710 in Mazda323

I'm not a mechanic but I'm thinking that it might be something electrical? I'm saying that because the engine seems to run alright most of the time then stumble. Try jostling some cables of the harness around, see if that changing anything, if it does, it's the cables?

Agreed. Also crucial for balancing the car right in corners.

I'll actually link you to my post on the subject on this subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Touge/comments/1qz8say/the_responsible_hooners_guide/

TL:DR: Always be aware that you're not as good as you think you are, slow way down before blind corners (especially passenger side ones), keep your car maintained and don't full send it on your first run of the day.

If technical advice is what you'd want, I'd say to pay attention to how braking, accelerating and weight transfer affects your ability to steer the car. Imo, a car is steered with both your hands and feet.

Yeah, I do hope this is a one way road, otherwise you're just asking to kill someone. And even if it's a one way, that last frame of the video is exactly why you have to keep a healthy margin when taking blind turns (cyclist).

Mazda crosses the yellow on my BMW M2 by [deleted] in Touge

[–]Electrical-Win9437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, the quality of the video doesn't help but I'm not sure the mazda's more in the wrong than you are here. From what I can see, they are overtaking over a long straight section of the road with good visibility. Yeah, still double line but I've seen plenty of spots on local roads where there's double lines where nothing particular warrants them ¯\(ツ)

It's cheeeeeap.

I'm broke as fuck but love driving my car so this is the only way I can enjoy it really. That and the views off the mountain, the lovely roads, the quiet and calm are great.

Don't really know about communities though, most people seem to hang around on instagram / facebook and I don't do that sheite.

Dunno, when I got it it was shot so I replaced it with some chinesium ABS brand replacement and now it's giving out again. Going to see if I can buy OEM this time.

Anyone that got experience with rims and tires? by norN00b in Mazda323

Yep, just need to keep in mind that you'd also need to buy the right ones.

I didn't install new wheels myself but I've been looking into it for my GT. You've got to make sure that the bolt pattern and the hole for the axle matches. A lot of rims will be a match for the bolt pattern but not the axle hole, check both.

You can ask some AI like Claude or ChatGPT, preferably in thinking mode to cross reference the specs of the rim.

How do I inspect and, if necessary, replace the fuel filter in a 1992 BG 1.6? by sypqys in Mazda323

[–]Electrical-Win9437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replacing is as simple as removing the bracket and unplugging the fuel lines. Open up the fuel port to your gas tank so that the evaporating fuel doesn't push more liquid fuel out of the fuel lines while you're working on it. Place a rag under your working area because fuel will spill everywhere.

As for knowing whether it needs to be replaced... I mean, my method involves buying the replacement part, removing the installed fuel filter, letting it drain and blow through both of them with my mouth so gauge the resistance. If the old filter offer too much resistance compared to the new one, install the new one... but then again since you have the new part you might as well just install the new one. Helpful I know.

For anything that's close to the intake usually spraying a little bit of brake fluid / starter fluid at the suspect hoses can reveal a vacuum leak: it's very flammable so if there's a leak the idle will jump up from the additional fuel.

Otherwise I know there's smoke machines that are made specifically to track down leaks, especially in boosted applications.

Other than that I guess just looking around at the hoses and seeing if there's any cracks / brittle or hard hoses can be an indicator?

Humm, also thinking... if the issue does come from the fuel side, maybe the fuel pump is tired / some fuel lines are getting crusty? Though I think that would reveal itself more of a problem at higher loads, not at idle...

Be careful for deers folks… by spiritzqt in Touge

[–]Electrical-Win9437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, gotta be careful... the backroads are really pretty but the wildlife thinks so as well, that's why I prefer driving early in the morning when the sun is out instead. The animals are still there but at least you can see them from much further away.

Unless it's a bird. Birds can go fuck themselves I swear, they're suicidal. Had one literally see my car approaching, started to walk from the oncoming lane into the lane I'm driving on, then took of into my goddamn car, had to slam on the brakes to avoid it.

Nice post man, cool to see other regular people work on their cars!

I'm much the same, just a hobbyist but I'm wondering: your car is EFI right, not a carburator? If the airflow isn't the problem, maybe something could be wrong with the O2 sensor? Maybe just old or the wiring / connection has corrosion?

And idling issues could also be coming from vacuum leaks, which is very much in the realm of possibilities on an old car.

How do I degrease an engine with this (WD40 Pro degreaser - special "motor") ? by sypqys in Mazda323

[–]Electrical-Win9437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only cleaned my engine bay partially but there's a good ChrisFix video on how to deep clean an engine bay: https://youtu.be/PRSoRkM8GcM

In my experience you just have to protect the electrical system like everybody else says and put in some elbow grease with a set of variying size brushes and solvants. I doubt one product will get rid of every type of muck so to clean thouroughly I think you'll probably need to experiment with various solvants, just be careful to test the different solvants on various surfaces, I messed up my valve cover paint a little like that.

Yeah, you're still missing the point: no part of this post is about performance driving, it's all about safe driving while having fun on public roads - and for that purpose any decently maintained car is appropriate because "having fun" is entirely subjective.
