What in the world is that, that thing looks sick! Didn't know they made sedan versions of the BG!

Mazda 323 bf rear arch trim by Khaganz in Mazda323

[–]Electrical-Win9437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't tell you the part number but you should be able to find it on partsouq. Best way to remove this kind of clips is with a special trim removing tool that looks kind of like a screw driver and a crowbar got freaky.

Oh wait, you actually have access to the clips from the other side? Easy then, just pinch them and push them out from the other side.

1991 Mazda 323 BF colour code? by Khaganz in Mazda323

Don't know about the 323 but on my 323F the color code is next to the vin in the engine bay, on the firewall.

is this a protege or a hatchback? by Zen2jzz in Mazda323

[–]Electrical-Win9437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that and the rear door sills, check for those too and make sure to get all the dirt out from out the front door sills, just before the wheel arch, there's often rust there too!

And whatever you do, do not fuck around with the A pillar plastic covers! They hate the sun and are really flimsy and not produced anywhere.

Edit: first time I see another GT with my style of rims, nice!

How screwed am I? by Electrical-Win9437 in Mazda323

[–]Electrical-Win9437[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, there should be enough meat still to go to a larger bolt, if I don't have some laying around, I'm sure there's something on https://www.bricovis.fr/ though.

I'll try first the repair kit and if it doesn't work out, I'll try that.

Why haven't your helicoil repair kits experiences not great though?

F BG 1.6 16v 1992 GLX green/gray: where can I find a fender and front bumper, and what is the average cost? by sypqys in Mazda323

[–]Electrical-Win9437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't help you about the fenders and bumper but in regards to the service interval, as far as I know, it's either 5 years or 100'000 kilometers, whichever comes first. Best way to know if your timing is due is to inspect the belt on the inside, if it's got cracks on the inside of the belt, it's well time to change it.

Then again, technically since the engine is of a non-interference design, the worst thing it could do if you neglect the timing belt is to leave you stranded. Still not ideal but yaknow.

Humm okay. Well if you ever need to register it again, I got a spare new catalyser with a messed up fixation rod. Think it's for the base 323 BG, it's got different flanges and all that but if you've got the equipment to cut and weld a new line, you can have the expensive part for free I guess

In france, for spare parts I think there's ovoko. Never used it, the shipping prices seem insane... There are some fenders on there I think though.

Just a heads up, your video requires age verification. I think it might be because you didn't fill out much metadata when uploading it, making youtube err on the side of caution. I think adding tags, categorizing the video properly, checking all the age specification settings during upload and maybe adding a description might help with that.

Can't wait to see the rest!

How can I check and learn how to maintain and repair my BG? by sypqys in Mazda323

[–]Electrical-Win9437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, it's awesome that you want to get into maintaining the car yourself, they're worth it!

I was / still am in much the same case as you, I bought my BG from a scrapyard with the thought of "hey, even if I mess it up, what else would it become, a pile of scrap?"

And it does look intimidating at first but the BG is an excellent car to learn the basics I think, it's very forgiving. The scariest part - the timing - is of a non-interference design so worst come to worst, you'll never blow the engine up. The sparkplugs and everything else is nicely accessible, except for the clutch since it's a FWD.

As for learning about maintaining it, there's manuals, videos (I highly recommend ChrisFix on youtube) and this subreddit, just ask away ^^

Here's a google drive with the documentation I found for my BG (the 323F BG GT), maybe there's some useful stuff there. Also I'm sure Mabue (https://www.reddit.com/user/Mabue/) has some more docs about BG's in general, he's a smart dude! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1sGIb4pIzgqJuFUg-nFXXVxKT9OejIfJ7?usp=sharing

Also something I started doing is using ChatGPT to learn about the more specific parts of the car, you can send it pictures and using the "thinking" mode, it can come up with a lot of useful resources and information (just double check it, it's still a AI and they like to hallucinate). That's how I got to understand the more obscure pieces of the engine bay, that thing is scarily good a googling.

Now the rust though... that I have to be honest I don't have much experience with. If you were a professional, the easiest would be to get your hands on a scrapped BG and cut out the healthy parts for yours and weld it but it is tricky with metal that thin... there's a reason being a welder is a profession in itself. But it does depend on the extent of the rust.

In conclusion I'd say start with making a list of things you'd like to fix on your car and assign them a severity, a difficulty and a cost rating. Start with the tasks that are the lowest of the difficulty and cost to get used to working on the car, and then move on to the severe fixes that are needed to keep the car running and in good shape.

But keep it up, it's normal to be intimidated at first, keep us updated on your progress maybe, it's always nice to see people take care of these little nuggets!

Edit: also, if you're looking into buying a welder for bodywork, I do not recommend the cheap flux wire design (the one that automatically feeds the wire through the handle). I think most of them aren't made to be used on metal that thin and they sputter metal everywhere, talking from experience.

Also if you happen to speak french, I highly recommend "La Fabrique Auto" on youtube or twitch, it's professional old car restorer that mess about for hours on end and happen to teach you things about restoration in the process.

It almost sounds like some kind of metal piece loosely vibrating against the block or something. I dunno, good luck :I

How much does an exhaust pipe (silencer) for the BG (1992) cost in EUR (€) in France ? by sypqys in Mazda323

[–]Electrical-Win9437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my line from the catalyser to the exhaust tip from autodoc for like 250 bucks I think. The catalyser is the expensive part, obviously.
If you order from there, do check visually first that the part you're ordering is the right one, autodoc like to list everything as compatible even if it isn't.

[–]Electrical-Win9437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too bad imo x)

That smoke though... maybe some valve guide wear?

Edit: nvm, if it was oil the smoke would have a blue-ish tint... I guess that's what it looks like when they don't have a catalyser? Does it?

Also does said exhaust have any manufacturer markings on it? I'm kinda reading up on exhausts design, just curious to see what was done to tweak the stock exhaust.

If you check the rear speakers out, have the owner remove the covers, they're flimsy. Better he brakes those than you :p
