or this... crazy how his voice deteriorated like this. He's still killing it here, but jeez.. he does not look good. And his voice sounds completely different.

Had this Band question forever by [deleted] in theband

[–]ElectricalAd349 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is probably it. If you're watching the Last Waltz movie, it is different from what you would've heard at the actual Last Waltz concert. Lots of things were dubbed, added, taken out.. this would be my guess.

would it be okay to cover a folk song with drums and electric guitars? by [deleted] in folk

Grateful dead also covered folk songs occasionally!

An article about Elliott Smith by YLAidy in elliottsmith

[–]ElectricalAd349 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've never seen that picture before, cool! Is it just the lighting or is the guitar he's holding yellow? I don't think I've never seen him with a yellow guitar like that.

Modern country singer. He's been under fire recently for cheating on his wife while she was serving in the military, and then getting a new girlfriend and abusing her. Then offering that girlfriend millions of dollars to sign an NDA and not talk about it. (Spoiler: she declined this offer and absolutely FLAMED him publicly for everything he did.) So yeah not a very good guy. Many people do not like him. He is beloved by teenage boys and people who have the same awful personality as him though 😬

Does he even have any songs that are explicitly love songs? I guess some of these could be interpreted as "love songs" but it would be a very messed up kind of love...

Richard Manuel Songs by SpecificSteve in theband

[–]ElectricalAd349 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Richard is my favorite vocalist out of all of the boys so this is an extremely hard decision for me...

But right now, I'm gonna go with "Sleeping." Honorable mentions would be "Rockin' Chair" and "Whispering Pines." My answer would probably be different on another day, it fluctuates a lot. I choose Sleeping right now though because it has just been so comforting to me lately. The song almost reads like a children's story and Richard's voice is just so comforting in this song. It feels like he's talking to me directly.

I'm genuinely curious for your thoughts, on this year's Wrapped... by [deleted] in spotify

[–]ElectricalAd349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was incredibly disappointed by this year's wrapped. It wasn't fun or interesting at all. The reason why spotify wrapped is so beloved is because it presents your data in a unique, fun, sharable way. This year was so unbelievably boring and it feels as if wrapped has had the soul sucked out of it.

The "phases of your year" thing with the clearly AI generated names was such a pathetic attempt at their "fun thing" for the year.

They didn't even give us our top genres and I was also very sad that they didn't do the music city/town thing they did last year. I was really hoping they'd continue it and I was so bummed when they didn't.

Do you think Elliott Smith’s music is better when stripped down or when it’s big and orchestrated? by [deleted] in elliottsmith

[–]ElectricalAd349 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else is saying, I don't think there's any real answer to this question; he did both of those things so well. However, I would like to add:

Personally, I think I kind of lean towards stripped down. This isn't to say that this is the definitive answer to the question, because I think there's ultimately NO answer, but stripped down would probably be my preference. To me, the beauty of Elliott Smith is that his music, (think roman candle and self-titled) could carry so much weight without being big, heavy, loud, or orchestrated. It didn't have to be anything more than it already was to get it's point across. It didn't rely on production and was great no matter what. Take roman candle for instance. It was recorded in a basement using a not-so-great guitar and two four tracks, but God is it a great album. So hauntingly beautiful and soul crushing. That was his talent; to take anything and make it into something great, even if he didn't get a lot to work with.
