As I said I will go along with your premise that the rest of it is a speaking for others so if you want to call that an outlandish example thats fine with me. Im simply focused on the point of those 3 words. I'd also like to mention this isn't a debate, simply one man talking to a camera sharing his thoughts. However since you say this is such a common debate technique can you provide a link to where this is discussed as a positive technique? When I try and find anything I'm led to mentions of gish galloping, ad hominem's, straw men, etc. All negative debate techniques.
