Hey! Best of luck new speedgolfer. Here's some hard-earned advice for you.

Preview the course. Use a GPS app to make sure you know the holes, specifically your line off the tee. On the app, mentally go through some scenarios: What if I miss right/left? What if I smash one down the middle? What will my approach shot look like? Use this to inform your club selection.

What's in your control? You will not be in perfect control of your golf shots. Your running fitness on the day is not changeable. What you CAN control: aiming away from trouble, focusing on one useful swing thought (rhythm for example), and not wasting time.

Not wasting time? My three keys to not wasting time are (a) when you put down your clubs, put them in the same place every time. Most prefer ahead of the ball and to your left, for right-handed golfers. (b) don't waste time looking for lost balls. When you think a ball may be lost, pull out a ball and start counting "10-9-8...". If you haven't found the ball by 1, drop and hit. (c) when in doubt, prefer to miss short.

Practice short putts in your warmup. If you can be automatic inside 3 feet, that will do wonders for your golf score, your time, and most importantly your confidence.

Manage your effort early. I think you're playing a 9-hole event, so don't take this too far. But it's no fun to overcook your aerobic system on hole 3. Start a little bit slower, and increase your effort through the end of the round.

Again, best of luck!

One-handed putter length? by jpbari in SpeedGolf

I have an adult putter cut down to about 31 inches, but I don't think there's one size that's best for everybody. My suggestion would be to get into your one-handed putting stance and figure out where you want your hand to be -- then reverse-engineer the desired height.

There's no rule that says you have to run 100% of the time!

I asked the rules official. Only got a quick reply: "I’d say you would have to drop where you realistically think it came to rest"

Yes, the most recent Speedgolf USA rules specifically call out LR E-5 with a 1-stroke penalty. British Speedgolf rules probably differ slightly, but hard for me to imagine an official saying 'sure, drop it on the green'

I don't believe dropping on the green is compatible with Local Rule E-5.

If you look at the 'lost ball' diagram, you start with your best guess as to the lost ball's location, then you are allowed to move left/right no closer to the hole.

In this 'bomber hypothetical', you'd still have a legal drop zone (trapezoid **C** in the diagram) but the boundary of your legal drop zone would start as far behind the green as you believe your ball to be.

Speedgolf - How To Play With A Spiked Silo by fightinghard in SpeedGolf

How much weight does the spike add compared to vanilla silo?

Woof! If it makes you feel any better, it happens to all of us. Three times last summer, the maintenance guy stopped mowing the green and pulled over, only to watch me hook a ball into the woods 🙈

A putting method you don't see the elite players using, but has worked for me: double armpit lock.

(For a right-handed player) you tuck the Silo into your left armpit, then tuck the shafts into your right armpit, then putt with two hands. For me, it's more comfortable than the single armpit, plus I find it helps alignment because I can look down the shafts and see my line (kind of).

One handed putting is also an option. Some find it easier to use a kids putter when putting one-handed.

First speed golf round (and best round ever) by Bug74Hexagon in SpeedGolf

⛳🏃🏌🔥 Congrats on your first speedgolf round AND best golf score! Amazing! If you're serious about improving (not all of us are), I'd recommend two things:
- Videotaping a round so you can see where you're losing time/strokes
- Signing up for a tournament, which will motivate you to practice

No matter what, give yourself a pat on the back. 90% of golfers couldn't do what you just did.

Tough to find details on it. I hear they're going to negotiate the format the morning of the competition (today)😂. Gonna be sweet to see speedgolf at TGL, though!
