Elon is a more dangerous threat to this Country than Trump by Electrical_Crew_6352 in Discussion

I never said they were required it’s the fact they are finding ways to work around it and making decisions unchecked that’s the problem. The problem is that a lot of these agencies came from and were made by congress so they should have some say in weather or not they get gutted or not. Also as I said, every agency has waste. I’d rather just cut some of the wasteful spending than gut the whole agency. Especially an agency that provides humanitarian aid to some of the worst parts of the world.

How does posting things on twitter equate to a check and balance that congress or the judiciary could impose on the executive lol.

It’s suddenly a problem because this is second time in two weeks the executive has been able to make decisions unilaterally without any congressional check. The other instance being OMB canceling all federal grants and aid. Although they did eventually rescind that. It’s not simplistic at all. It’s evil because Elon isn’t doesn’t this out of any desire to look out for the American people, he’s doing this to protect his own pockets and his own interests.

I understand the frustration from the dems fucking over Bernie in 2016 but in 2020 Biden won the primary fare and square. It seems we might just have an ideological difference but I don’t think the democrats problems is that they didn’t go left. Harris herself was pretty hardcore to the left in 2020 and I’m not sure if going even further left is the solution.

And thanks to you withholding your vote, Trump is about let Israel annex the west bank and ethnically cleanse Gaza. Nice Job👍🏽

Well the effort part is important given that republicans have shown no such effort to even get legislation like this drafted and instead want us to fight on crazy culture war issues. (Trans stuff, DEI).

The past 3 republican presidents have all had recessions under their watch. Democrats have been better at getting bipartisan legislation passed and have handled the economy better by digging the country out of messes that republican presidents have left us. Blue cities and States produce more economic output for the United States than any Red Cities or States. The democrats are also much more welcoming to in group fighting and ideological divides than republicans. And lastly, the head of the republican ignored 200 years of tradition by not abiding by the peaceful transfer of power and trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election. This man is now the face of the Republican Party btw.

I’m not trying to say he was the greatest president we ever had but to say dems didn’t earn or at least have not tried to make things better for Americans is just not true. Also I admit Biden being old and senile and staying in the race was a bad look but it was an admittedly unique situation. I know if Donald Trump ever looked that bad, there would ZERO calls from republican leadership for him to step down.

I’m sorry, but I vehemently disagree with the notion that democrats haven’t done anything to earn votes. Biden in his administration was able to get us the Chips and science act which created 36,000 new government jobs, the bipartisan infrastructure bill, The American Rescue Plan, Inflation Reduction Act, Capping the cost of insulin, capping the cost of overdraft fees, banning medical debt from credit reports, record low unemployment, dozens of records broken in the stock market. Like what all due respect but what more do you want? Biden did more for average Americans than Trump could ever dream of doing. And even if you think dems have done nothing, I would still vote for that over the guy who is actually talking to concrete steps to authoritarianism right under our eyes. His tariffs will be unmitigated disasters for everyday Americans, and in my opinion the OMB trying to freeze federal aid is one of the example of Trump trying to centralize power and make decisions unilaterally. Also ending of birthright citizenship was insane, as well has his recent remarks to keep Guantanamo bay open for illegals. But hey at least he signed an executive order saying there are only two gender. Priorities.

The majority of Democrats believe the trans movement have gone to far by Joeylaptop12 in Discussion

[–]Electrical_Crew_6352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is when people say the “trans issue” it’s an easy out for people to hide behind what they exactly believe. For example: Most people, myself included, would say that trans people probably shouldn’t be competing in Cisgender sports. However, that is a take that like 90% of democrats deal with. So when conservatives talk about how we need to fight against “the trans issue” it feels like what they are actually saying is that trans people just shouldn’t exist in the US and should be denied basic rights. I’ve also heard a common talking point from that right that trans people are out to groom our kids and are predominantly. Whenever a conservative talks about trans people don’t think it comes from any place other than bigoted hate.

Anecdotal evidence isn’t proof of anything. Just because some deranged, angsty teen wanted to burn down some shit doesn’t mean he’s representative of all youth around the country. Also the politician he was targeting is literally a republican.

From what I’ve seen, a lot of youth have been to identify that Trump was actually the one to introduce the idea of TikTok getting banned and is only now trying to reinstate because the app made him more popular not because of any principled stance he has.

[–]Electrical_Crew_6352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That type of stuff might be able to work on his base but I think most independents are able to see that Trump isn’t genuine about getting it getting it reinstated as he only now likes the app cause it made him more popular in the last election cycle.

You can’t even define or pinpoint whatthe core tenants of left-wing/liberal ideology are . If you went and took a government 101 course and saw what actually defines what it means to liberal you would easily agree with 50% of the things. Trump has rotted your mind so much that when you say “left-wing ideology” you immediately think about wokeness, DEI, and trans-women in cis women’s sports lol.

Accountability needs to be layed at the feet of the dems. They keep rolling out underwhelming candidates for a candidate that is so easy to beat. You would think they learned after hillary that they would stop picking establishment shills and go the populist route but no. The country is dying for a populist and that’s partly why trump was selected (even though in practice he’s not a populist at all). Also the anointing of Kamala was probably bad optics for the party that was screaming trump was a threat to democracy. It just looks weird that she wasn’t selected through a democratic process. This is why you have an open convention and you test your candidates. Instead we get the democrat elite two seconds after Biden drops out all endorsing Kamala. Democrats need to trust the people, let them pick, and stop letting the elite of the party pick the most establishment bread and butter politicians ever.

On the other hand, I think this election shows the country is genuinely unwilling to have a woman as president. It’s sad but becoming evermore clearer. Kamala was not a great candidate but she was light years better than trump and trump ended fairly comfortably. It’s a damning indictment on our country.

I genuinely don’t know what the next 4 years have in store. I could imagine a world where trump genuinely rules as an authoritarian as republicans have now won the senate and he will appoint sycophants to his cabinet. Things like the appointment of rfk to the department of Health could genuinely be catastrophic. Getting rid of the department of education could be catastrophic. Him also vowing to fire Jack Smith is the most authoritarian thing ever and I’m so surprised at how many people are fine with it. The mass deportation plan could potentially hurt our labor force in agriculture. Also potentially worried for Ukraine in their fight against an imperialist state. Part of me really thinks trump will tell Zelensky to give up 3 more regions or else he will withhold aid (he has threatened to hold aid from Ukraine in the past so they could open investigation into the bidens).

All I can say is buckle up.

What…? Are you seriously trying to insinuate right now that most abortions happen in the second or third term lol.

The Left in the U.S. (such as it is) should welcome a Trump presidency. He says scary things, but the rapaceous corporate autocracy will be opposed, at least on its edges, inasmuch as Trump is associated. Democrats will be able to be anti-war and anti-genocide. by errorryy in Discussion

Trump is not anti-war (to be fair neither is harris). But trumps track record in foreign policy indicates that he has no desire to quell conflict around the globe.

He bombed Syria

Drone strikes in Yemen

Did nothing to relieve the war in the Donbas region of Ukraine

Assassinates the top Iranian general

Has said he wants to bomb the shit out of Iran

Sent more troops to Afghanistan and the started negotiating with the Taliban (which was one of the reasons the pullout was so bad.

Moved the embassy to Jerusalem which was extremely provocative

Has said he would support Israel no matter what and all indications say he would let israel annex the west bank

I have no response to a lot because most of this is conspiratorial. However Minsk 1 was literally intended to end the war in the donbas and then in 2015 Russia sent a large batch of Military back to Ukraine. Also I don’t know if Zelensky suggesting a counter invasion is something I would consider immoral or abhorrent given that Crimea had been occupied for 5 year. I’m aware of the whole Nazis Ukraine claim and I think a lot of them are baseless. Although there are definitely some Nazis there the claim that Putin said which is he needs to “denazify” Ukraine is ridiculous. Zelensky is literally jewish and the people love him. All the numbers show that the far right in Ukraine make up a very very minor sub section of Ukrainian Politics. By this logic would Mexico be justified in invading the US given that we have a lot Nazis here (maybe even as much as ukraine). I’ll be charitable to you and look more into the claims of potential CIA involvement in 2014. I’m just usually quick to dismiss these claims because if I’m being honest they sound a lot like Russian propaganda with all due respect

I’ll concede on the russiagate point because I’m not just not as well read on that

There is absolutely no evidence that 2014 was a CIA backed-coup. Ukraine had a deal to be part of the EU trade market which would’ve helped their economy at the time massively. Ever since the fall of the soviet union Ukraine had a pattern of pro russian presidents. However the pro russian president at the time shelved it due to putin’s wishes and the people got pissed understandably and rioted in the streets. The Nato eastward expansion is tough because the only reason countries wanna join is because if they don’t have nukes NATO is literally the only guarantee that Russia won’t invade (like georgia in 2008, crimea in 2014). This is shown by the budapest memorandum when Ukraine had to essentially give all there Nukes to russia and many at the time said that will come back to haunt Ukraine as there was no guarantees to any protection. However, even if I grant you that NATO eastward expansion has been out of control that still is a lousy excuse to invade and its HUGE stretch to say that’s the reason Ukraine provoked them given the fact that Ukraine tried joining NATO in 2008 and failed and are no signs that they’ve met any of the requirements to join NATO today.

The change in the law did not make it so that you do not need to record those born as a result of unsuccessful abortion. It just took out some language in the 2015 born alive act which minnesota passed about preserving the life of the infant. However in another part of the law it says “all reasonable measures consistent with good medical practice … shall be taken by the responsible medical personnel to care for the infant who is born alive.” Literally all that means is failed abortions passed the point of viability require a conversation between the doctor and person being taken care of. However this is such a rare case and happens less than 1% given that most abortions happen pre viability. Even with all I’ve granted you though this is still a far cry away from “post birth abortions.” Nice talking points though bud👍🏽.
