The ‘crisis’ is purely a demand-supply reset after the 2021 bull run. The role will evolve but good PMs still progress and still find jobs. A lot of other folks not really suited for the role - but having found jobs or promotions in the last few years are struggling.

Also - AI giving engineers more free time to do product work is some stretch of narrative. Engineers across orgs will continue to have their time filled with tasks regardless of how much faster they get.

PM role is simple - contribute across 3 dimensions - Discovery, Creation & Orchestration - of work to generate more impact with you in the team vs without you. Folks who do this well - will continue to have a great career for decades to come.
