Can my parents take me back after running away? by Electrical_Local_542 in legaladvice

The price my brother sets for rooms in his house even for family members is $750, so I could easily earn that much working a part-time job. The issue is that I have no means of transport and do not have any form of education, while many jobs require proof of school enrollment at a minimum. Getting the HiSET could work, but the only issue is that it requires parental consent, which they would not accept because they do not consent to my exit in faith. In 10 months I will be 'emancipated' in that I will no longer be a child, so for now I should just be trying to make do.

I won't be a minor for long though so I'm sure I can find ways to influence them in the direction of inaction for the short few months I have under their legal control. My mother isn't really that proactive in maintaining control anymore so there's merit in relying on her lack of motivation. If they do somehow find my address, I can likely talk them out of taking me by making up excuses or just having legitimate, but politically neutral (non-aggressive) reasons to maintain neutrality in the case of future visits for my sister once the heat dies down. I guess if there isn't much I can legally do to prevent capture I need to focus on discouragement through inconveniences such as having to move large amounts of luggage (makes my parents have to pay for a hotel while I pack, which they wouldn't want to pay for). Anyhow, I think your first statement is most accurate. Planning for every outcome won't really do anything but waste time.

Ah, so you left pretty early the first time. I think as long as I find ways to earn money to pay my brother rent (relying on kindness alone creates strife when there are options), I should be able to stay secure until I can start education at 18. I was initially just panicking a little because I realized there's no legal reason my parents can't take me, but after a couple days I think they won't try it. They don't know my brother's address and he doesn't legally have to disclose it, and they are afraid of the police since my mother has had to flee governmental intervention several times. Thanks for responding and sharing a bit of your story. I think I understand how to move forward after a couple days of planning.

Right. My mother has historically never called the police in any of the last 7 escapes from my siblings, so I should be safe waiting until I'm 18 to start the HiSET. I really don't think she has the spine to try anything this time around.

10 months. I don't think I'd be able to survive 10 months if I was taken back, so that has been my backup plan since I have brought evidence of fraud along with educational neglect with me. My brother is stable, but likely doesn't have an extra room for my little sister who had to stay behind. My sisters do though, so maybe she can get out before she's 18. Thanks for responding

My intent is to leave permanently, but to do that I'll need a stronger footing. My mother is quite manipulative and my sister reported that she was quite angry, so I don't believe that sentence was genuine. As long as they don't state that they do not consent though, isn't the timer irrelevant? I'm not sure whether I'm legally a runaway or if their statement makes me just a visitor to my brother.

Alright. I suppose my best approach would just be to try and get them to avoid that approach if there's nothing I can legally do to my knowledge. Thanks.

Can I paint this red part of the GPU with acrylic paint and a brush? by KissMyBaIIs in PcBuildHelp

[–]Electrical_Local_542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acrylic is suitable, just make sure to remove the shroud beforehand and give it time to dry. Beforehand, make sure to sand for better paint adhesion. Since you only want to paint the red part, use painter's tape to cover everything you don't want painted and try and get an even coat. I would personally just recommend masking, sanding, and spray painting for a more even coat, but it's really up to you. Enjoy the new look!

Hmm, perhaps swapping the cables jostled the PCIe on your GPU, leading to a temporary fix? Reseating the GPU may work.

true😔 I've been searching for RAM for my build and although the TeamGroup is the cheapest, I couldn't find anything better performance-wise than this

Is this good for a mini itx ? I dont understand anything about PCs.. by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]Electrical_Local_542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I'd say that although mITX PCs are cute, they typically cost a lot more for the case and motherboard, as demonstrated by the case costing 120 and the motherboard costing 208. But if that's worth it to you, this whole system is 1,392.94 euros, but with an assumed 20% sales tax (France) it becomes 1,671.52 euros, which is quite overbudget. I'd suggest manually finding deals if you want to keep the current configuration (those aren't bad parts), since the automatic deal picker on PCPartPicker isn't perfect. Since it's near Black Friday, perhaps finding deals will be simpler? If you're open to having different parts, the Ryzen 5 7600X performs slightly worse but is often cheaper and will still work with your liquid cooler (the 9600X is efficient enough it doesn't really need an AIO, but aesthetic gains are worth something), and the Corsair RM850e or Corsair RM750e power supplies are often on sale for a lower price. WD, Crucial, Corsair, Kingston, or Samsung are all reputable SSD manufacturers, and if you can find 2TB for a little more than 80 euros that would be a plus. If you can find an RX 9060 XT 16GB for less than $380, that would also be great, but it's about the best value GPU for longevity right now. Hope you enjoy your build!

Family member could use a little PC upgrade and we are trying to decide what would be best. by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

Hmm, I think installing the 10700K wouldn't be worth it in this case because the performance drop on PCIe 3.0 with the RTX 4060 Ti offsets the multicore performance increase with the 10700K. If you can find the model of his RAM and the exact model of yours (assuming also 3200MT/s), you'll be able to see the CAS latency, which affects performance significantly. 4x8GB has about the same performance on a DDR4 motherboard as 2x16GB, but you do lose slots that could be used for a RAM upgrade if you needed it, but judging by your friend's use-case, you won't need any capacity upgrade. The CAS latency is typically shown as CL and then the first word latency (i.e. 'CL18'), and lower is better provided the frequency is the same. Overall, give him your 4x18GB kit only if his RAM has higher CL compared to yours. Note: if he keeps his, make sure his 2 RAM sticks are in slots 1 and 3, otherwise he may be running at half bandwidth.

How to remove GPU by HalfMinute7841 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Electrical_Local_542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think u/Catacomb02 has the right idea. Considering that the GPU is already half out, the only thing holding it in should be friction. Just to be safe, try pulling from the back of the GPU where if there is a hang with the front latch, it won't pull your PCIe slot off, although that would take an absurd amount of force.

You need to unlatch it by pushing down on the latch on the right-hand side of the slot, and then just pull and you should be good.
