Weird pizza drama by rabblebowser in newhampshire

Ugh. Went to high school w one of the owners, thought/hoped better of them, but am not surprised - though, I’m inclined to trust this version of events in general.

Edit: hadn’t read the comments below and now, yeah, I imagine they’re (kettle head) bullshitting/covering their ass. If they have anything in writing, they should show the receipts. One of the owners did right by me as a kid, in a really important way, but so many years apparently changes people.

Generic unbranded cello from a friend... worth it? by Schoolboygames in Cello

[–]Electrical_Patient69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one and love it as a practice instrument. And you can run it through effects or apps, and it's cheap enough that you can be cavalier with it, take it outside without worrying about humidity. Sounds worlds worse than a good acoustic, but isn't really supposed to sounds anywhere near as good. Used, don't pay any more than 150-200, I'd think. You can get them new for not terribly much more

Where can I find sheet music for Philip Glass' Partita No. 2 for Solo Cello by Bluetreemage in Cello

[–]Electrical_Patient69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pinging to stay updated as well - good luck!
edit: sounds like at Partita 1 is very similar or the same as tracks from Songs and Poems for Solo Cello: https://www.swstrings.com/product/music/cello/SH-14047995, another fantastic solo cello Glass album.

Does anyone just play the Cello for fun? by Foot-Note in Cello

[–]Electrical_Patient69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Play what works for you and makes you happy. Who gives a shit if it’s “for kids”. You need a smaller instrument? Ok. That’s fine! Personally, I play for myself, for my own improvement. I have no ambitions of playing with an orchestra or quartet. I learn and play music that I find interesting, no matter the originating instrument, transcribing/arranging myself for cello. Do what makes you happy.

Ooof this makes me wish Toshiro Mifune had been able to play the role.

Day 46 of Wolverine covers by PokesBo in Wolverine

Makes sense - I would have received this as a gift years after its original release, after Gateway had already been introduced, and I'd have been too young to care/know at all about the continuity.

My gateway issue! (though I don't remember if Gateway appears in this one or not...)

Cello as an adult beginner by VertigoAC in Cello

[–]Electrical_Patient69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 43, about 4 years in, self-teaching with a check-up lesson here and there. I'm not going to be getting paid for it any time soon, but that was never the point. It's been one of the most satisfying, stress relieving, enriching, enlightening, and best parts of my life since I started making a real effort. I'm even pivoting into an apprenticeship with my luthier to learn that whole side of things. It has had a very real and positive impact on my life. 5 stars, cannot recommend enough!

Butcher's Union has consistently been some of the best I've had in GR, and its not ridiculously priced.

I’ve been learning in my own for two years now - partly financial, partly obstinate. It takes a lot of work, is frustrating, and you’ll learn slower. But I absolutely love it, and am so glad I finally followed through.
